Colorado officials are investigating how passwords to its voting machines ended up on the internet.

The Colorado Sun reported:

Colorado state officials are investigating a county election office after passwords for its voting systems were posted online, the Secretary of State announced Monday.

The breach included specific passwords from Mesa County’s voting equipment, Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold said in a statement.

The passwords were posted on a far-right blog, according to a spokesperson from Griswold’s office.

Griswold called it a “a serious breach” in a statement, but said it did not happen during the past election or create any risk to state elections.

It is likely that the passwords were collected during software updates to voting equipment in Mesa County on May 25, 2021, Griswold said.

Officials have asked to inspect the county’s election equipment and other relevant materials from the county clerk and recorder. If violations are found, it could lead to a decertification of the county’s voting machines…

…The Colorado County Clerks Association said it is aware of the inquiry by Griswold’s office “into a potential chain-of-custody and security protocol breach for Mesa County’s voting system components to be used for the upcoming 2021 Coordinated Election.”

“We take any credible information that questions the integrity of the conduct of our elections seriously,” said Matt Crane, who leads the association. “We offer our full support to this inquiry and hope that a thorough investigation will provide clear answers to the concerns raised by the Secretary of State’s Office.”

Amnesty International calls on Biden to drop ‘politically-motivated’ charges against Julian Assange ahead of hearing

Human rights organization Amnesty International called on President Joe Biden to drop US charges against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, condemning them as “politically motivated” and an attack on the free press.

In a statement ahead of Wednesday’s Royal Courts of Justice appeal hearing – where the United States government will attempt to appeal a UK judge’s decision in January not to extradite Assange – Amnesty International’s Europe Director Nils Muižnieks urged Biden to drop the charges.

“This attempt by the US government to get the court to reverse its decision not to allow Julian Assange’s extradition on the basis of new diplomatic assurances, is a blatant legal sleight of hand,” declared Muižnieks. He said that given the US “has reserved the right to keep Julian Assange in a maximum security facility and subject him to Special Administrative Measures,” its diplomatic assurances to do otherwise “are inherently unreliable.”

Muižnieks called on the court to dismiss the US government’s appeal and also called on Biden to “drop these politically-motivated charges which have put media freedom and freedom of expression in the dock.”

Highlighting how former President Barack Obama opened the government’s investigation into Assange, and how former President Donald Trump subsequently decided to bring charges against the WikiLeaks founder, Muižnieks urged Biden to finally “do the right thing and end this farcical prosecution which should never have been brought in the first place.”

Judge Vanessa Baraitser ruled on January 4 that Assange – an Australian citizen who is charged with espionage for publishing leaked classified documents – could not be extradited to the US, citing mental health concerns and the high risk that the American justice system could not prevent his possible suicide behind bars.

In a statement on Friday, Assange’s fiancé Stella Morris explained that the US government “will re-run arguments that have already been settled by two previous judges, including a very senior High Court judge” and that “it seems unlikely that the judges on Wednesday will reach a different conclusion.”

“Wednesday’s hearing is therefore particularly vexatious,” she said, claiming that the “ultimate strategy by the US government is to try to get the court to dismiss important evidence” about Assange’s mental health and “game the British legal system.”

A protest against US attempts to extradite Assange is set to take place outside the Royal Courts of Justice in Strand, London, on Wednesday.

Call center company used by Apple, Amazon & Uber wants to force workers to install AI-powered cameras in their BEDROOMS – reports

Remote workers at one of the world’s largest call center firms are reportedly being pressured to allow AI-powered camera surveillance to monitor their workspaces at home – even in bedrooms.

In March, Teleperformance issued an addendum to its employment contracts that required workers to let the company put in cameras – apparently to record and track their work performance at home in real-time. The contract also allows data collected from workers’ family members, including minors, to be stored and subjected to video and voice analysis.

As well, employees had to agree to share biometric data including fingerprints and photos. There is also reportedly a clause that requires them to undergo lie-detector tests if required by the company. According to NBC News, the contract was sent to 95% of Teleperformance’s 39,000 employees in Colombia who were working remotely.

Speaking on condition of anonymity since she was not authorized to speak to news media, a Bogota-based Teleperformance worker told the outlet that she signed the document because her supervisor reportedly told her she would be moved off the Apple account if she did not.

The contract allows constant monitoring of what we are doing, but also our family. I think it’s really bad. We don’t work in an office. I work in my bedroom. I don’t want to have a camera in my bedroom.

Another employee, who works on the Amazon account, said the only room in her apartment quiet enough to take customer calls from Spain at night is the bedroom. She told the news outlet that the company had not yet put in additional cameras but said she was worried about microphones picking up her husband’s snoring.

“It’s a violation of my privacy rights, and the rights of my husband and mother-in-law who live with me,” she said.

Fauci Tells MSNBC Who's Next For Vaxx Mandate: "I'm Going To Upset People On This"

First it was all federal workers, and then then all service members of the military, and now a national vaccine mandate is being discussed for all school teachers. Or rather, the federal government would encourage and back state and local government efforts to require that teachers get vaxxed.

This as the debate over making school children mask up is raging, as major school districts like Dallas and others across the nation have said the school year will take place in masks. On Tuesday the US government's top infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci said during an appearance on MSNBC: "I'm going to upset people on this but I think we should [mandate teacher vaccinations]."

"I mean, we are in a critical situation now. We have had 615,000 deaths and we are in a major surge now as we're going into the fall, into the school season. This is very serious business."

The provocative comments came after the head of the American Federation of Teachers issued a statement in support of a nationwide coronavirus vaccine mandate for teachers across the country. "COVID-19 vaccinations should be required for U.S. teachers to protect students who are too young to be inoculated, the head of the nation's second-largest teachers' union said on Sunday, shifting course to back mandated shots as more children fall ill," Reuters wrote of Randi Weingarten's statement in support of a national mandate.

Fauci in his latest comments still acknowledged the difficulty of fighting local governments on this, given for example the current standoff over mandating masks in places like Texas and Florida… "You would wish that people would see why it's so important for people to get vaccinated," Fauci said. "But you're not going to get mandates, centrally, from the federal government."

But Fauci still made it clear that the federal government will fully support local governments that order its school teachers and staff to get the vaccine. The fresh comments are also sure to give local authorities the political momentum some have sought from national leaders to push for just such a campaign in local school districts.

"I'm sorry I know people must like to have their individual freedom and not be told to do something," Fauci said. "But I think that we're in such a serious situation now, that under certain circumstances, mandates should be done."

He had previously explained over the weekend: "You surround them with those who can be vaccinated, whoever they are - teachers, personnel in the schools, anyone - get them vaccinated. Protect the kids with a shield of vaccinated people," in a separate NBC interview.

One Covid vaccination or screening center vandalized in France per day on average since mid-July – reports

France’s Ministry of the Interior found that one Covid vaccination or screening center has been vandalized per day on average since mid-July, with around 20 such sites across the country attacked, local media reported on Tuesday.

Information gathered from the Ministry of the Interior shows that there have been 20 attacks on vaccination hubs and Covid testing centers nationwide from July 14 to August 9.

A vaccination center in Landes, southwestern France was reportedly defaced on July 19, with vandals writing ‘Nazis’ and ‘collaborators’, alongside dozens of swastikas. Meanwhile, the word ‘genocide’ was painted on the floor of another hub in Vendôme just over a week later.

Along with reports of vandalism, incidents of arson have also reportedly been observed at Covid-related sites across France. A marquee vaccination center in Urrugne, a city in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, was set ablaze on July 18, while similar attacks were reported as far away as the island of Reunion last Sunday.

The numerous attacks orchestrated on various Covid facilities coincide with mass protests, which have rocked France for weeks, regarding the Covid ‘health pass’ and mandatory vaccination for healthcare workers by mid-September, which were given the backing of the top constitutional court last week. The scheme requires all citizens seeking to enter most public venues in France to display their health pass to show their vaccination or Covid viral status upon entry.

According to government figures, 55.6% of France’s population have been fully inoculated against Covid-19, while almost 66.7% have received at least one vaccine dose.

Companies Now Deducting $50 From Unvaccinated Workers' Monthly Paychecks: Consultancy Firm

Some employers are starting to tack on a $20 to $50 monthly surcharge to their unvaccinated workers, according to a health benefits consultant group.

“Employers have tried encouraging employees to get vaccinated through offering incentives like paid time off and cash, but with the Delta variant driving up infections and hospitalizations throughout the country - at the same time that vaccination rates have stalled - we have received inquiries from at least 20 employers over the past few weeks who are giving consideration to adding health coverage surcharges for the unvaccinated as a way to drive up vaccination rates in their workforce,” Wade Symons, with consultancy group Mercer, told Forbes magazine on Aug. 8.

Symons didn’t disclose the names of the firms that are working to add surcharges to workers who haven’t received COVID-19 vaccines.

Several large companies, including Google, Facebook, and Walmart, as well as hospital systems and others, have mandated that their employees get vaccinated. And on Aug. 9, the Department of Defense stated that all military members will have to get the vaccine, coming more than a week after President Joe Biden announced that federal employees would have to either get the vaccine or be subject to routine testing.

Symons separately wrote in a column that some employers have held off on vaccine mandates “because of potential employee relations issues that such a move might provoke,” but he added that with the Delta COVID-19 variant and a stall in vaccinations, “health coverage surcharges for the unvaccinated are a tactic employers are reviewing as an alternative to a mandate.”

“The rationale for adding a surcharge to health insurance contributions for unvaccinated employees is seen as similar to that for a tobacco-use surcharge,” he wrote.

“If an employee is unvaccinated and contracts a COVID-19 infection, that creates higher claims costs, which can impact the employer’s bottom line, and mean higher future contributions for other employees. Beyond plan costs, there are the public health benefits of greater vaccination rates, in addition to workplace safety considerations.”

Crypto prices dipped modestly following news that cross-chain protocol Poly Network was hacked resulting in over $600 million worth of assets being taken by hackers. In an early morning tweet, Poly Network - whose protocol allows users to swap tokens across multiple blockchains, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, Polygon, and others - revealed that it had fallen victim to an exploit resulting in the loss of over $600 million worth of assets across the Binance Smart Chain, Ethereum mainnet, and the Polygon network.

In the same twitter thread, Poly Network listed the addresses where funds were transferred, requesting that miners and crypto exchanges blacklist tokens coming from the hacker’s addresses. Additionally, Poly Network has threatened legal action, urging the hackers to return all assets taken.

Suspected anti-vax nurse replaced Covid-19 jabs with saline, affecting thousands in Germany, local authorities reveal

More than 8,500 people in a town in northern Germany, who thought they were vaccinated, might have been left without protection against Covid-19 as a nurse allegedly injected them with saline instead of a real vaccine.

Thousands of people in the small town of Schortens in northern Germany might have to go through the vaccination procedure all over again, just months after they supposedly got immunized against Covid-19, the local authorities have revealed following an investigation in what was deemed a minor cover-up issue but developed into a major vaccination scandal.

“A total of 8,557 people might have received no vaccine protection in part or in full,” said Sven Ambrosy, the administration head of the Friesland district, where the town is located. The local authorities are now trying to contact all potentially affected people and have set up a hotline for those willing to clear up their situation, the German media reported.

Those affected mostly include elderly people over 70 years old, who took the supposed vaccine shots between March 5 and April 20 at a local Friesland vaccination center in Schortens-Roffhausen. The problem is that they never actually got the jab but were most likely injected with a simple saline solution instead.

“We have well-founded suspicions of danger,” said Peter Beer, the deputy head of the local police department. The incident appears to be not just a simple mistake, though. It ultimately comes down to just one woman – a former employee of the German Red Cross entrusted with preparing the syringes with the Covid-19 vaccines.

A woman that had been working at the vaccination center since early 2021 confessed to her colleague in late April that she filled six syringes with saline after she allegedly dropped and broke an ampule with a Pfizer vaccine and supposedly attempted to cover up the loss.

At that time, the authorities had to test around 200 people, who received their shots on a certain day, since it was not immediately clear who was injected with saline. The nurse was immediately terminated as the authorities also launched a probe into the incident.
