The family of a Colorado Navy SEAL who died when his parachute failed to open during a Fleet week demonstration called him a role model to all, in a statement Tuesday.
Remington J. Peters, 27, of Grand Junction, fell to his death during the demonstration over the Hudson River on Sunday. Peters was a member of an elite Navy parachute team called the Leap Frogs.
“He was an angel on earth and a role model who will be “painfully missed,” his family said in a statement released by the U.S. Navy. “We couldn’t have been more proud of him. He lived life to the fullest and taught us to do the same.”
Peters’ mother, Tina Marie Peters, referred The Denver Post to the statement on Tuesday, and said she was not ready to talk to media about her son.
