Conjecture: it's possible that Raniere was acquiring girls/young women who were born into the cult, but who were attempting to leave. That this patent and his so-called "rehabilitation" refers more to retention/correction of errant Luciferians.

TY anon. I think it's very likely– the Ludovico Method, as it were. My impression, from the outside looking in, is that to retain an errant MK victim/cultist, one should likely speak to the alters rather than to the base personality. I assume this guy knows how to do that.
