Top Biden Advisor and Mao Lover Anita Dunn Leaves White House

Joe Biden’s top advisor Anita Dunn will be leaving the White House on Thursday.

The Mao-loving Marxist will continue to counsel Joe Biden.

Axios reported:

Anita Dunn, one of President Biden’s closest advisers during the campaign and as he built his administration, will depart the White House after today but remain a top confidant.

Why it matters: Dunn is one of the small handful of aides in the Oval Office who preps Biden before any major appearance. She helped place women in senior roles throughout the West Wing.

What they’re saying: White House communications director Kate Bedingfield told me: “Anita is a backbone of Team Biden and her leadership was critical not just to the campaign but to our first 200 days in the White House.”

Anita Dunn is a radical leftist who previously praised mass murderer Mao Tse Tung as one of her “favorite political philosophers” to a leadership role in his campaign.

VIDEO:

Mao Tse Tung murdered up to 70 million Chinese last century, according to most accounts.

Anita Dunn is a longtime Biden advisor and worked as the Obama WH Comms Director until she stepped down in 2009 shortly after the video of her praising Mao surfaced.

China Seeks ‘Bigger Role’ in Afghanistan as Taliban Gains Ground

Chinese state media signaled Beijing could play a major role in talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban on Wednesday as the latter rapidly accumulated territorial gains this week.

The government newspaper Global Times asserted this week in light of another peace meeting in Doha, Qatar, between Afghan government officials and Taliban terrorists, the situation could require Chinese intervention in an article titled in part, “China Could Play ‘Bigger Role’ to Mediate.” The article quoted a former Afghan ambassador to Beijing, Sultan Baheen, urging further Chinese intervention in the country. China and Afghanistan share a border.

“China, as a neighbor, a good friend and a big power, could do something to help mediate between the Taliban and the Afghan government to help them go back to the negotiating table,” the propaganda outlet paraphrased Baheen as saying. “They should echo the voice of Afghanistan that war is not the solution and support an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process. Time is crucial for Afghanistan.”

The Times, and the Chinese government generally, has attempted for months to portray itself as a superior international partner to Afghanistan than the United States in light of America’s scheduled withdrawal from the country at the end of the month. In addition to Kabul officials, the Taliban itself has publicly embraced further Chinese involvement in the country.

“We have been to China many times and we have good relations with them,” Suhail Shaheen, a member of the Taliban negotiating team in Doha, said in July. “China is a friendly country that we welcome for reconstruction and developing Afghanistan.”

Shaheen said then that he hoped to see Chinese financial investment in Afghanistan “as soon as possible.”

Afghanistan is a key target of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), its plan to restore the Silk Road trading routes between Asia and western Europe using debt-trap loans to build infrastructure in developing nations. China offers these countries high-interest loans to pay Chinese companies to build the projects, then seizes the buildings when the debtor nation inevitably defaults due to the onerous lending terms. In Afghanistan, Beijing has its sights on the country’s natural mineral wealth, including abundant copper and other raw materials for its factories. Cooperation with Afghanistan would also provide a key BRI link between China and its strategic partner, Iran.

The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is holding joint drills this week with the Russian military featuring over 10,000 troops, ostensibly to practice anti-terrorism operations. In addition to financial interests, China claims that it needs to secure the region against terrorist activity from the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), an alleged Uyghur jihadist organization that the U.S. government removed from its list of terror organizations last year due to lack of evidence that it exists. China is currently engaging in a genocide of the majority-Muslim Uyghur people in its Xinjiang region, which borders Afghanistan. While nominally a Muslim group, the Taliban has not objected to the genocide in any public way.

The Taliban seized most of the border territory with China this year, prompting an acceleration of Chinese dialogue with the Sunni Muslim insurgent group. In July, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi insisted the ETIM was a vital national security threat for China and called on the Taliban to disavow the non-existent organization. The Taliban did so without condemning any genocidal activities against Muslims in China.

Bill Gates Pledges $1.5 Billion To Develop New Green Technologies As Image-Rehab Tour Continues

Bill Gates' campaign to rehabilitate his public image in the wake of his divorce from ex-wife Melinda French formally began earlier this month when Gates sat for a softball interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper. It continued Thursday with another interview (this time with the conservative-leaning WSJ) where the Microsoft founder pledged to invest $1.5 billion in a series of public-private partnerships set up to develop new green technologies, like devices that suck carbon out of the atmosphere, or emissions-free jet fuel.

The statement was clearly timed to coincide with the Senate's passage of the "compromise" infrastructure bill, which, if passed by the House, would dedicate $25 billion to the Department of Energy for the development of new technologies and prototypes to help fight climate change, part of $100 billion in climate change-fighting funds tucked into the bill.

Gates explained to WSJ that the money would be provided over a period of three years by a fund Gates has named "Breakthrough Energy". These "Breakthrough" projects will focus on finding market-based solutions to climate change. To be sure, Gates' grants will need to compete for the matching DoE funds with other private sources (but considering Gates's vast connections in Washington, we will be shocked if the matching funds aren't approved)

He also seized the opportunity to praise the Dems for their dedication to fighting climate change, while also spouting boilerplate language about being "dedicated" to the cause.

Former CEO of TV News Station Agrees to Plead Guilty in College Admissions Scheme

BOSTON – The former chief executive of San Diego’s KFMB television stations has agreed to plead guilty in connection with her involvement in the college admissions case.

Elisabeth Kimmel, 57, of La Jolla, Calif., will plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud. According to the terms of the plea agreement, the parties have agreed to a sentence of six weeks in prison and two years of supervised release, with the first year spent in home confinement. Should the Court accept the plea, Kimmel will also be required to pay a $250,000 fine and perform 500 hours of community service. A plea hearing is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 16, 2021.

As set forth in the charging document, Kimmel agreed with William “Rick” Singer and others to pay $275,000 to facilitate her daughter’s admission to Georgetown University by having Georgetown tennis coach Gordon Ernst allegedly allocate a tennis admission slot to her daughter, even though she was not a competitive tennis player and was not actually being recruited to play on the Georgetown tennis team. Kimmel further agreed with Singer and others to pay $250,000 to facilitate her son’s admission to the University of Southern California as a pole vault recruit, even though he was not a pole vaulter.

Kimmel will be the 32nd parent to plead guilty in the case. Ernst has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to stand trial in November 2021.

WTF?

Leaked Video Shows Hundreds Of People At Camp For COVID-Positive Migrants In South Texas

MISSION, Texas — Hundreds of illegal migrants crowded under a pavilion in Anzalduas Park where temporary tent facilities were set up to house people who tested positive for COVID-19 over the weekend, video provided to the Daily Caller News Foundation shows.

The temporary facility was set up deep within Anzalduas Park and out of the public view after the City of McAllen issued a disaster declaration in response to around 1,500 COVID-19 positive migrants who were released in the city last week, according to local officials. Video shows the crowded conditions at the park where migrants crowd under a large pavilion and move between several tan tents set up in the area.

Federal and local law enforcement officials prevented the friends, family members and journalists from entering the park. A Customs and Border Protection (CBP) source provided a video of the temporary facility set up inside the park recorded over the weekend to the DCNF on Wednesday. The source asked to remain anonymous because they were not authorized to speak to the media on the matter.

People who waited outside the park to pick up the illegal migrants told the Daily Caller News Foundation Saturday they had no idea their friends and family members were being held in a facility set up for people who tested positive for COVID-19.

“We came here to pick them up but they told us we can’t go in,” a man who immigrated from Honduras told the DCNF, he declined to give his name to protect the people they were trying to pick up at the park. “They said we can’t come in because they have COVID.”

The City of McAllen declared a state of disaster after around 1,500 migrants positive for COVID-19 were released from federal custody into the city around Aug. 4, the DCNF reported. The city set up a temporary tent facility in an empty parking lot before moving and expanding the operations to Anzalduas Park.

The man told the DCNF “there’s a caravan” of Hondurans making their way to the U.S., but he didn’t say how far along in the journey they were. He added the people he was supposed to pick up from the park told him a bus was scheduled to take them to a church in downtown McAllen but was already over half an hour late.

“No. I didn’t know [that his friend tested positive for COVID-19],” the Honduran told the DCNF. “Everyone I talked to didn’t know they got sick.”

“I’m waiting for a friend, I don’t know him. He just called and he said that he’s here and he wants to leave already,” Luis Montesino, 60, of McAllen, Texas, told the DCNF. “Immigration is letting people go because there are lots of people, so they can’t keep up with the people and they’re releasing them.”

Montesino said he hadn’t visited the park before and thinks the number of people illegally entering the U.S. is “alarming.” Border officials encountered nearly 213,000 migrants at the southern border in July, including a record high of 18,900 unaccompanied migrant minors, according to CBP.

Amazon bringing back free shipping to Israel for orders over $65

Only certain items are eligible for free shipping, which are clearly marked on the site.

Israeli shoppers rejoice: global shopping giant Amazon has resumed free shipping to Israel.

As of Thursday morning, purchases over $65 are eligible for free shipping to Israel. Only certain items are eligible for free shipping, which are clearly marked on the site. No guidance has been provided as to how long the promotion will last.

Israelis have waited a year and a half for this moment.

When Amazon began offering free shipping to Israel for orders above $49 in November 2019, it set off nothing less than a consumer revolution overnight. Because Amazon was able to sell thousands of products more inexpensively than local stores, Israelis began buying almost everything online, including clothing, electronics, food and even toilet paper.

However, that all ended abruptly in March 2020, when the coronavirus pandemic wreaked havoc on global shipping channels and forced Amazon to cancel the benefit.

Deliveries to Israel were canceled completely during the early days of the pandemic. Later last summer, sales to Israel were restored, but with longer and more expensive shipping options. Shipping times to Israel have now returned closer to pre-pandemic levels.

Shopping online is a favorite pastime for Israelis, and it has long been common for olim (immigrants to Israel) to order online and have the packages sent to a relative abroad to be picked up or delivered on an upcoming visit. For many Israelis, free delivery to their homes in Israel represents an international level of luxury.

Israelis are avid shoppers on international shopping sites like Ali Express and Next, but the quality and variety of international products on Amazon is generally considered superior.

The $65 threshold for free shipping is intentional. Currently in Israel, deliveries from overseas under $75 are exempt from customs charges. Keeping the size of an order between $65 and $75 in order to avoid fees requires shoppers to exercise a certain level of attention and savvy that Amazon has likely taken into account. The previous threshold of $49 gave shoppers more room to make a sport of dodging fees.

Facebook groups dedicated to shopping on Amazon were already abuzz on Thursday with people sharing advice on which deals ship to Israel, and tips on reaching the $65 minimum.

The return of free shipping “was unexpected, but was certainly appreciated by the community,” said Avi Parshan, who runs a group called The Best Deals in Israel. He called the raising of the minimum order price “bittersweet.”
