Officers arrest human trafficking suspect in Miami-Dade County

MIAMI – Detectives rescued a teenage girl on Friday who said she first traveled from Miami-Dade County to New York with a man who involved her in prostitution when she was just 13 years old. Officers found her while investigating a shooting.

The teen, now 15, said she had been living with Moise Junior Jasmin since she was 14 years old. She had a tattoo on her chest and said he branded her with his street name “SnowKidd$” and used her to monetize videos on OnlyFans, a pay-to-view website, according to prosecutors.

“The very concept of a young teenage girl being sexually trafficked in our community is a parent’s worst nightmare,” Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said in a statement. “A young girl’s innocence and childhood are quickly stripped away by an alleged trafficker’s desire for fast, easy cash.”

Officers arrested Jasmin, 23, who was on probation for a prior ID theft case, on Friday. He was being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. There was evidence of human trafficking on both of their mobile phones, prosecutors said.

“Rescuing these victims and removing traffickers from our community are and will always be the main goals of my human trafficking task force,” Fernandez Rundle said. “These dedicated police officers and investigators deserve a community-wide thanks.”

Jasmin is facing charges of human trafficking of a victim under 18 for commercial sexual activity, human trafficking permanent branding, human trafficking transport of child under 28 outside this state, sexual performance by a child, aggravated child abuse, interference with child custody, and sexual battery.

Ex-South Carolina teacher guilty in Georgia child sex case

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — A former teacher in South Carolina has admitted to contacting a Georgia girl who was under 18 with the intention of engaging in sexual activity, federal prosecutors said.

Jonathan Eugene Grantham, of Graniteville, South Carolina, pleaded guilty Wednesday to coercion and enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity, federal prosecutors said in a news release. When he was arrested in February, he was a teacher at Ridge Spring-Monetta High School in Ridge Spring, S.C. He has since been fired.

“It’s sickening to contemplate the fact that while Jonathan Grantham was serving as a high-school teacher, he was surreptitiously participating in the depraved sex trafficking of a child,” Acting U.S. Attorney David Estes said in the release. “This plea will hold him accountable for his crimes, while our diligent law enforcement partners continue their outstanding work to protect our most vulnerable citizens from such predation.”

During a sex trafficking investigation into other people, FBI agents discovered that Grantham, 45, had traveled from South Carolina to Columbia County, Georgia, in July 2019 to engage in sexual activity with the girl after contacting her online, prosecutors said.

Grantham faces a sentence of at least 10 years and up to life in prison, as well as substantial financial penalties and restitution, the release says. He also must register as a sex offender and serve at least five years of supervised release once he’s out of prison.

The protesters, dressed head-to-toe in PPE and white masks, walked quietly through Lakeside Joondalup Shopping Centre in Perth while carrying a message mocking the public's acceptance of official pandemic guidelines.

Among the signs were: 'Trust the science' and 'dob on the unvaccinated' - as well as 'trust the government'.

Some of their messages didn't make sense, including 'stay sleep' and 'support dividing Australian's (sic).'

The DHS claims that the United States is in a “heightened threat landscape,” and according to MSNBC, “Homeland Security says there’s several concerning factors. There’s continuing grievances over COVID restrictions, which has stirred up a lot of opposition,” and “there’s the coming 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks,” and “And there are approaching religious holidays and the opening of school and the possibility of school shootings.”

A former member of the Trump administration’s Department of Homeland Security also recently claimed that Republicans should be considered a terrorist threat.

Miles Taylor, the former official, claimed that President Donald Trump disregarded the DHS’s claims that Republicans constitute terrorism threats, however, he also directly compared Republicans to radical Islamic extremists. “a very prominent, former U.S. commander who said there are elements of the GOP that are starting to look like the jihadists that he used to fight in Afghanistan and Iraq, spreading lies and conspiracy theories to radicalize a population,” said Taylor, who emphasized that concerns about election integrity and the 2020 election are akin to beheadings and Sharia Law.

Kansas Math Teacher Fined for Resigning Over Mask Mandate and Critical Race Theory Teachings

A Kansas math teacher has been fined after resigning over the school’s mask mandate and Critical Race Theory program.

Josiah Enyart, a 6th grade math teacher at Comanche Elementary School, was pushed to his breaking point on July 25, when the Shawnee Mission School District sent an email renewing a mask mandate for all students and unvaccinated teachers.

“That was my final straw,” Enyart told the Sentinel.

Enyart was a teacher in the district for 13 years and won the Jedel Excellence in Mathematics Education Award last year.

The school has now fined him $1,000 for resigning after a designated final day to do so in his teaching contract. He doesn’t plan to pay it, though.

“I will be bringing my stuff, but I don’t plan on bringing a check,” Enyart said.

The teacher is arguing that the mask mandate changed the terms of his employment, and he resigned a few days after the change was announced.

Enyart’s frustration with the district began several years ago, however.

“It’s all critical race theory stuff,” Enyart said. “That was kind of the start where I realized, they’re really trying to bring this in and make it something.”

The Sentinel reports that the district spent $400,000 implementing Deep Equity Critical Race Theory training for the teachers, which explicitly instructs educators to “reject and resist any parents who disagree with it.”

The teacher did not just quit the district, he also pulled his own children out of their schools.

“I’m not going to continue to have my kids bossed around by these people and have no power as a parent, no power as a teacher, and for my kids to have no say,” he said.

Death Toll From Haiti Earthquake Rises to 227, Civil Protection Service Says

Initially, the death toll from the massive earthquake that hit Haiti on Saturday was 29 people. The quake struck off the coast of Haiti in the morning, with its magnitude estimated to be 7.2.

Haiti's civil protection service announced on Saturday that the death toll from a powerful earthquake that occurred earlier in the day has risen to 227.

According to the authorities, hundreds of people are wounded and disappeared in wake of the earthquake.

"The first interventions, carried out by both professional rescuers and members of the population, made it possible to extract many people from the rubble. Hospitals continue to receive wounded", the civil protection service said.

The vaccines, according to official figures, have also given the vaccinated COVID – 1170 (so called breakthrough) cases in the UK. Of those who contracted COVID from the vaccine the fatality rate was (for the Pfizer and AZ vaccines) over 6%. But the overall fatality rate in the UK is only 2.2%.

Victorian Labor MPs have gone to China at least 25 times over the past four years, racking up close to $1 million in travel bills as part of Premier Daniel Andrews’s pursuit of closer ties with the communist nation.

Since Labor’s 2014 election victor­y, Mr Andrews has made no secret of his desire to court China as a trade, education and cultural partner, and has personally led four delegations there at a cost of almost $300,000 to taxpayers.

It’s not often that foreign policy figures in state elections but it does now because the Victorian government has decided to freelance on relations with China.

It’s bad enough that the Andrews government has decided to enter into a memorandum of understanding with China on its so-called Belt and Road Initiative that’s way outside the responsibility of a state government, and absent the security and intelligence expertise that’s commonplace in Canberra.

What’s worse is they were refusing to release the document that they’ve signed Victoria up to.

At first glance the BRI is an attractive option, especially for developing countries with little infrastructure. For them the prospect of loans for new railways, highways and ports is enticing, as is their belief that transit countries will fill their beaks through trickledown. But its potential for boosting local employment is limited by China’s insistence that it supplies the workers for these projects. Also, there is great pressure on these countries to reduce tariffs, thus limiting their revenue.

And then there is the $US900 billion in loans underwritten by China. By some estimates, more than half the 61 countries committed to BRI projects have credit ratings below investment grades. Many of them have poor governance, unstable economies and are riddled with corruption. So why China’s risky strategy, dubbed as “debtbook diplomacy”? As Harvard Kennedy School scholar Sam Parker told the Australian Financial Review this May, “China is loaning hundreds of billions to countries that often can’t afford to pay it back, and it is going to want something in return for that money.” You guessed it: the collateral for these loans is not physical assets, but sovereignty itself.
