'We got it right' when we cleared Trump of collusion, says lead House Republican

Rep. Mike Conaway, R-Texas, who headed the House probe into Russia meddling in the 2016 election, said he stands by a House report that found no evidence that Russia worked with the Trump campaign to help him win.

A Senate report released Wednesday found evidence the Russians worked to ensure Hillary Clinton lost and Trump won the election, which matched the assessment of the U.S. intelligence community. But Conway said both are wrong on the issue of whether Russia was trying to help Trump beat Clinton.

“It comports with about 90 percent of what we did as well,” Conaway said Wednesday of the Senate report. “We spent thousands of hours going through the documents at the CIA and we came to a different conclusion. On just a narrow piece of it.”

Conaway said he is “confident in the people that did our work, that we got it right.”

The Senate report found Russians worked in favor of Trump and against Clinton. The House report acknowledged Russian meddling, but focused on intelligence failings ahead of the 2016 election. But Neither report said Trump knowingly worked with the Russians to defeat Clinton.

The US surgeon general was one flight's 'doctor in the house'

When Delta cabin crew on a flight from Atlanta to Jackson, Miss., asked whether a doctor was on board, they probably weren't expecting to get help from "America's Doctor."

But Surgeon General Jerome Adams, who was aboard the flight, eagerly answered the call on Wednesday.

"On my Delta flight to Jackson, Mississippi (by way of Atlanta), and they asked if there was a doctor on board to help with a medical emergency – why yes – yes there was," he said, posting a selfie on Twitter. "Patient doing well and like a good USPHS officer, I was glad to be able to assist!"

The USPHS stands for the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, a division of the federal government's health agency.

On my @Delta flight to Jackson, Mississippi (by way of Atlanta), and they asked if there was a Doctor on board to help with a medical emergency- why yes- yes there was. Patient doing well and like a good #USPHS officer, I was glad to be able to assist!

Adams did not disclose what type of care he provided to the passenger. Flight crew will issue a request for a doctor when passengers face a medical emergency, which can range from a heart attack, stroke or panic attack, or to administer an injection. According to a 2013 study in New England Journal of Medicine, medical emergencies happen in about 1 out of 600 commercial flights.

The surgeon general is an anesthesiologist by training and was health commissioner in Indiana before taking on his current role, in which he has been a vocal advocate on preventing and treating opioid addictions.

On Thursday he scheduled to visit the University of Mississippi Medical Center with Republican Gov. Phil Bryant to discuss what steps the administration is taking to combat the opioid crisis.

Giuliani: Robert Mueller Has Said Special Counsel Will Not Indict Trump

President Donald Trump’s attorney Rudy Giuliani told Fox News on Wednesday that special counsel Robert Mueller notified Trump’s legal team two weeks ago that he will not indict the president.

Giuliani said Mueller will follow the Justice Department policy stating that a sitting president may not be indicted.

In a statement to CNN, Giuliani said, “All they get to do is write a report.”

”They can’t indict. At least they acknowledged that to us after some battling, they acknowledged that to us,” he added.

The Justice Department’s guidance on whether it can indict a sitting president is laid out in a 1999 memo.

“This case is essentially over,” Giuliani told Fox. “They’re just in denial.”

President Trump hired Giuliani in April to help negotiate an end to the Russia probe, which has yet to yield any evidence of collusion between the Trump team and Russia after a year.

Giuliani’s hiring signified a shift in the Trump legal team towards a more aggressive handling of Mueller’s investigation, a stark contrast to former White House lawyer Ty Cobb, who promised back in January that the Russia probe would conclude in four to six weeks. In August of 2017, Cobb predicted that the Special Counsel would be concluded by Thanksgiving. On multiple occasions, reporters overheard Cobb discussing details of the case loudly in public.

Giuliani’s comments come less than 24 hours after telling NBC News that President Trump is in a “holding pattern” regarding a potential face-to-face interview with Mueller.
