It occurs to me this anon that the hasty withdrawal is (at least in part) an attempt tp enhance the divide between establishment Republicans and MAGA. Watch closely as many (so-called) MAGA people begin reflexively parroting old neoconservative talking points and start sounding like Donald Rumsfeld once again. You're already seeing it. The less thoughtful MAGA folks will fall in line…this could be an attempt to help pull the RINOs back into the fold and get more support. This was the tactic when Fox News was born in the 90s…galvanize the old right folks (Buchanan), the reform party supporters, libertarians, and evangelicals under the neoconservative banner by making Clinton's sexual proclivities the focus of the news cycle.

Don't think it work this time around though, but they may gain some traction with it.

An added thought.

We rightfully see this as a full-fledged vindication of Michael Flynn, who warned that WH and Pentagon press briefings were in contradiction with the on-the-ground intel under Obama. Among that intel was the capability off the Afghan forces, strength of the Taliban forces, and the progress of building up Afghan's defense infrastructure.

Flynn has been PROVEN correct.
