J.D. Vance: Ruling Class ‘Actually Enjoys Plundering the Greatest Country in the World’

J.D. Vance, author of Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis and Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate in Ohio, says the nation’s ruling class “actually enjoys plundering the greatest country in the world” rather than investing in American communities.

In an exclusive interview with SiriusXM Patriot’s Breitbart News Saturday, Vance said a “fundamental problem” in the U.S. is that economic and political elites have no obligation to America’s working and middle class.

“I think a lot of these people have unfortunately convinced themselves that they don’t owe anything to the country that gave them so much wealth and so much power,” Vance said:

It’s not just the bad policies of the Biden administration that we have to push back against, that’s obviously important, it’s the entire leadership class in this country in the government, in the bureaucracy, in the private sector … these people do not see themselves as Americans first, as owing an obligation to the country that gave them all the incredible opportunities. And that is maybe the fundamental problem in this country: The ruling class that instead of investing in this country — building institutions, making the people who live here wealthier, happier, more prosperous — it actually enjoys plundering the greatest country in the world because it doesn’t see that it owes anything to the people who live here, to the previous generations that actually built this country. [Emphasis added]

On immigration, for instance, Vance said economic elites are stripping investment from middle America and sending that money to the coasts as a result of their desire for mass illegal and legal immigration to drive down U.S. wages.

Vance said:

I was at a dinner in 2017, 2018 with a lot of corporate leaders. I was sitting next to the CEO of one of the largest hotel chains in the world. He said ‘Look, President Trump’s immigration policies are forcing me to raise wages for my workers’ and he was complaining about this. And I said ‘Okay, well explain this to me.’ And he said ‘Look, in the past, if I wanted workers, I could just go across the southern border and get a bunch of Central American foreigners to do this job for poverty wages but now because I can’t tap into those people, I have to go to Americans and I have to give them higher wages to do it.’ And again, this guy was talking about this like it was a bad thing but this is what the elites do with immigration is they use it to undercut the wages of American workers. [Emphasis added]

The other problem is that it actually takes investment away from our own communities. The whole way that our economy grows is by investing long-term in the American worker and American productivity. But if you can just get cheap people at poverty wages anyway, you’re not going to invest in your own communities, you’re not going to invest in your own country and that makes us poorer over the long term. It’s no surprise that maybe the biggest competitor to the United States right now is China — a very low immigration society that has generated its economic gains by investing in its own economy, not foreign workers. [Emphasis added]

Epstein worker 'will swear on oath that he saw Prince Andrew groping Virginia Roberts on billionaire's island' - amid claims that Royal aides fear 'inconsistencies' in Prince's story if sex assault claims go to trial

Jeffrey Epstein's telecoms specialist will swear on oath that he saw Prince Andrew groping Virginia Giuffre on the billionaire's 'Paedo Island', it was claimed last night.

Steve Scully claims to have witnessed the Duke of York kissing and grinding against a blonde woman wearing a bikini - whom he insists was Andrew's sex accuser - by a swimming pool on Little Saint James between 2001 and 2004.

It comes after sources close to Ms Giuffre suggested the 'arrogant' prince has woefully underestimated the severity of the case against him.

Mr Scully, 71, told the Sun on Sunday: 'I was working on the phone and he (Andrew) was by the pool with Virginia. As soon as I saw him, I recognised him.

'I thought, 'If I had a camera in my bag right now, I'd have a $50,000 picture'.'

He added that he saw them lying on lounge chairs after 'bumping and grinding' for several minutes.

Meanwhile, royal aides are said to have highlighted 'inconsistencies' with the Duke's account of his relationship with Ms Giuffre.

Heart Inflammation Risk Following mRNA COVID-19 Vaccination Could Be Common

mRNA COVID-19 vaccination often related to myocarditis, and pericarditis diagnosis

A new study published by the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) on August 4, 2021, found two distinct self-limited heart-related syndromes, myocarditis, and pericarditis, were observed after COVID-19 vaccination.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) vaccine committee reported on June 23, 2021, a possible association between mRNA COVID-19 vaccines and myocarditis, primarily in younger male individuals, within a few days after the second vaccination, at an incidence of about 4.8 cases per 1 million.

This new study shows a similar pattern, although at higher incidence, suggesting mRNA COVID-19 vaccine adverse event underreporting.

Myocarditis developed rapidly in younger patients, mainly after the second vaccination.

Additionally, pericarditis may be more common than myocarditis among older patients after either the first or second COVID-19 vaccine dose.

Among 2 million patients of the Providence Health Care System in the western USA receiving at least 1 COVID-19 vaccination, twenty individuals had vaccine-related myocarditis (1.0 [95% CI, 0.61-1.54] per 100,000), and 37 had pericarditis (1.8 [95% CI, 1.30-2.55] per 100,000).

The mean monthly number of cases of myocarditis or myopericarditis during the prevaccine period was 16.9 vs. 27.3 during the vaccine period.

And the mean numbers of pericarditis cases during the same periods were 49.1 and 78.8, respectively.

Four persons developed myocarditis symptoms after the first vaccination, and 16 developed symptoms after the second.

Myocarditis occurred a median of 3.5 days after vaccination. Seventy-five percent of the individuals were male, and the median age was 36 years.

All patients were discharged after a median of 2 days. There were no readmissions or deaths.

However, pericarditis developed after the first immunization in 15 cases and after the second immunization in 22 patients.

Israel furious after Poland’s president approves law denying victims of Holocaust property claims

Polish President Andrzej Duda has approved a law effectively stopping victims of the Holocaust and communism from reclaiming property taken from them. The move triggered uproar in Israel, which said it “will not accept” the law.

The law was approved by Duda on Saturday, and sets a 30-year statute of limitations on property claims against the state. Duda told Polish news agency PAP that he hoped the law would put an end to false claims by “reprivatization mafias,” and would close off an era of “legal chaos.”

The law made its way through Poland’s parliament in the face of vocal opposition from the United States and Israel, incensed that it would deny the families of Holocaust victims from reclaiming property taken during World War II. However, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has previously said that Poland “won’t pay for Germany’s crimes,” while Duda has rejected the accusation that the law is aimed solely at Holocaust victims.

Poland’s then-large Jewish community was almost completely eradicated during WWII as the German Nazi Party organized the massacre of around six million European Jews in the Holocaust. However, property seizures from Jews and gentiles alike also took place during the decades of communist rule that followed, and restitution claims from victims of communism will also be dismissed under the new law.

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett was livid. “This is a shameful decision and shows disgraceful contempt for the memory of the Holocaust,” he tweeted. “This is a serious step that Israel will not accept in good faith.” Foreign Minister Yair Lapid also announced that he would recall his country’s ambassador to Poland and instruct the incoming ambassador slated to replace him to remain in Israel, the Jerusalem Post reported.

“Poland has become an antidemocratic, non-liberal country that does not respect the greatest tragedy in human history,” Lapid stated.

Throughout his six years in office, Duda has outright rejected any accusations of his country’s complicity in the Holocaust. His PiS party sparked controversy in 2018 when it introduced a law criminalizing any suggestion that Poland had aided in the massacre of Jews. However, the law was eventually watered down, following intense criticism from the US and Israel.

MIT Researchers Devised a Way To Program Memories Into Bacterial Cells by Rewriting Their DNA

Technique for editing bacterial genomes can record interactions between cells, may offer a way to edit genes in the human microbiome.

Biological engineers at MIT have devised a new way to efficiently edit bacterial genomes and program memories into bacterial cells by rewriting their DNA. Using this approach, various forms of spatial and temporal information can be permanently stored for generations and retrieved by sequencing the cells’ DNA.

The new DNA writing technique, which the researchers call HiSCRIBE, is much more efficient than previously developed systems for editing DNA in bacteria, which had a success rate of only about 1 in 10,000 cells per generation. In a new study, the researchers demonstrated that this approach could be used for storing memory of cellular interactions or spatial location.

This technique could also make it possible to selectively edit, activate, or silence genes in certain species of bacteria living in a natural community such as the human microbiome, the researchers say.

“With this new DNA writing system, we can precisely and efficiently edit bacterial genomes without the need for any form of selection, within complex bacterial ecosystems,” says Fahim Farzadfard, a former MIT postdoc and the lead author of the paper. “This enables us to perform genome editing and DNA writing outside of laboratory settings, whether to engineer bacteria, optimize traits of interest in situ, or study evolutionary dynamics and interactions in the bacterial populations.”

Timothy Lu, an MIT associate professor of electrical engineering and computer science and of biological engineering, is the senior author of the study, which was published on August 5, 2021, in Cell Systems. Nava Gharaei, a former graduate student at Harvard University, and Robert Citorik, a former MIT graduate student, are also authors of the study.

Genome writing and recording memories

For several years, Lu’s lab has been working on ways to use DNA to store information such as memory of cellular events. In 2014, he and Farzadfard developed a way to employ bacteria as a “genomic tape recorder,” engineering E. coli to store long-term memories of events such as a chemical exposure.

To achieve that, the researchers engineered the cells to produce a reverse transcriptase enzyme called retron, which produces a single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) when expressed in the cells, and a recombinase enzyme, which can insert (“write”) a specific sequence of single-stranded DNA into a targeted site in the genome. This DNA is produced only when activated by the presence of a predetermined molecule or another type of input, such as light. After the DNA is produced, the recombinase inserts the DNA into a preprogrammed site, which can be anywhere in the genome.

Another Mega Group Spy Scandal? Samanage, Sabotage, and the SolarWinds Hack

The devastating hack on SolarWinds was quickly pinned on Russia by US intelligence. A more likely culprit, Samanage, a company whose software was integrated into SolarWinds’ software just as the “back door” was inserted, is deeply tied to Israeli intelligence and intelligence-linked families such as the Maxwells.

In mid-December of 2020, a massive hack compromised the networks of numerous US federal agencies, major corporations, the top five accounting firms in the country, and the military, among others. Despite most US media attention now focusing on election-related chaos, the fallout from the hack continues to make headlines day after day.

The hack, which affected Texas-based software provider SolarWinds, was blamed on Russia on January 5 by the US government’s Cyber Unified Coordination Group. Their statement asserted that the attackers were “likely Russian in origin,” but they failed to provide evidence to back up that claim.

Since then, numerous developments in the official investigation have been reported, but no actual evidence pointing to Russia has yet to be released. Rather, mainstream media outlets began reporting the intelligence community’s “likely” conclusion as fact right away, with the New York Times subsequently reporting that US investigators were examining a product used by SolarWinds that was sold by a Czech Republic–based company, as the possible entry point for the “Russian hackers.” Interest in that company, however, comes from the fact that the attackers most likely had access to the systems of a contractor or subsidiary of SolarWinds. This, combined with the evidence-free report from US intelligence on “likely” Russian involvement, is said to be the reason investigators are focusing on the Czech company, though any of SolarWinds’ contractors/subsidiaries could have been the entry point.

Such narratives clearly echo those that became prominent in the wake of the 2016 election, when now-debunked claims were made that Russian hackers were responsible for leaked emails published by WikiLeaks. Parallels are obvious when one considers that SolarWinds quickly brought on the discredited firm CrowdStrike to aid them in securing their networks and investigating the hack. CrowdStrike had also been brought on by the DNC after the 2016 WikiLeaks publication, and subsequently it was central in developing the false declarations regarding the involvement of “Russian hackers” in that event.

There are also other parallels. As Russiagate played out, it became apparent that there was collusion between the Trump campaign and a foreign power, but the nation was Israel, not Russia. Indeed, many of the reports that came out of Russiagate revealed collusion with Israel, yet those instances received little coverage and generated little media outrage. This has led some to suggest that Russiagate may have been a cover for what was in fact Israelgate.

Similarly, in the case of the SolarWinds hack, there is the odd case and timing of SolarWinds’ acquisition of a company called Samanage in 2019. As this report will explore, Samanage’s deep ties to Israeli intelligence, venture-capital firms connected to both intelligence and Isabel Maxwell, as well as Samange’s integration with the Orion software at the time of the back door’s insertion warrant investigation every bit as much as SolarWinds’ Czech-based contractor.

Will $500M for Smart Cities in Historic US Senate Spending Bill Fund Biometric Surveillance?

Half a billion dollars was written into the $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill passed Wednesday by the U.S. Senate to pay cities to experiment with technologies for ‘Strengthening Mobility and Revolutionizing Transportation,’ which could include remote biometric systems, sensors and drones.

Reaction to the inclusion was rapid. The Intercept spoke with a senior staff attorney of the Electronic Frontier Foundation who said the ‘SMART’ money will buy more surveillance using facial recognition. The industry has yet to convince critics alleging face biometrics introduce racial and gender bias and misuse by law enforcement of the technology’s safety.

Also of concern is how this technology, if not the funding, will become tangled with relevant military programs as has happened with other software and hardware being deployed to monitor and quell dissent.

At least some of the resulting projects will be used to create so-called smart cities, where a multitude of sensors collect data on just as many aspects of life in a patch of city. Some of the funding is also expected to go to supporting electric vehicles.

Vendors talk about improved irrigation of parks, use-controlled streetlights and insights into how people exist in a city.

Privacy advocates see information, including biometric identifiers, being collected by vendors and governments without informed consent of citizens. And there has yet to be created a data security system that cannot be hacked.

The legislation now moves to the House of Representatives, where it is unlikely that the surveillance provision will be stripped.

Houses burn as huge wildfire forces evacuation of six Jerusalem-area communities

Vast pall of smoke spreads across capital; 12 firefighting aircraft and dozens of firefighter units scramble to control blaze west of city as psychiatric hospital evacuated

Houses were burning in the town of Ramat Raziel outside Jerusalem on Sunday, as a huge forest fire forced thousands of residents in six communities to evacuate their homes and emergency services fought to control the flames.

The fire, about 13 kilometers (8 miles) west of the capital, sent a huge pall of smoke across the city that blocked out the afternoon sun. Fire and Rescue Services Jerusalem District Commander Nissim Twito said the blaze may be the biggest in recent years in the area. Twito said 60-70 firefighting teams and 12 planes and helicopters were battling the flames.

A 32-year-old firefighter was injured while battling flames near Shoresh on Sunday evening, and was treated at the scene before being transferred to Ichilov Medical Center in moderate condition.

An unnamed fire-and-rescue official quoted by Channel 13 said the massive blaze was likely sparked by humans. The official said, however, that it is not yet clear whether it was arson or negligence.

Strong winds combined with the hot, dry weather were fanning the flames, rapidly spreading the fire. Residents in Beit Meir, Ksalon, Ramat Raziel, Shoresh, Sho’eva and Givat Ye’arim were asked to evacuate their homes as a precaution. The Eitanim psychiatric hospital was also evacuated of all staff and patients; two patients went missing during the transfer to other local hospitals. Police spokesman Eli Levi told Army Radio that at least 10,000 people have been evacuated from their homes.

Eight firefighting planes and four helicopters were dumping retardant onto the fire as emergency units from other regions streamed to the area to assist local services. According to the Kan public broadcaster, at least three people were being treated for smoke inhalation.

Local officials said Sunday evening that the flames in Beit Meir, Shoresh, Sho’eva and Ksalon were largely under control, but that the blaze in Ramat Raziel and Givat Ye’arim was still burning, in part because of heavy winds. Firefighting officials said they expected to remain in the area all night tackling the blaze.

Former interior minister Ahmad Jalali to head Afghan transitional administration

He assumed the duties of the head of the interim administration in Afghanistan

MOSCOW, August 15. /TASS/. Former Interior Minister of Afghanistan, Ahmad Jalali will lead the transitional government in Afghanistan, Al Arabiya TV channel reports.

According to information from diplomatic sources, Jalali has been chosen as head of the transitional government of Afghanistan. He assumed the duties of the head of the interim administration in Afghanistan, the TV channel said.

Pakistan's GEO TV said that "Abdullah Abdullah, the head of Afghanistan's High Council for National Reconciliation, is acting as the arbitrator in the negotiations" between the Taliban and the government in Kabul.

According to Lebanese Al Mayadeen television channel, the plane of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani is ready for his evacuation from Kabul.

On Sunday morning, Taliban militants started entering Kabul from all sides. Later on Sunday, Afghanistan’s Acting Interior Minister Abdul Sattar Mirzakwal told the TOLOnews television channel that the city would not be stormed. The transition of power will be peaceful, he assured the city residents.

Taliban Officials Interviewed At Afghan Presidential Palace Following Reports Of Explosions In Kabul

Late on August 15, senior officials of the Taliban spoke to the Al Jazeera from the personal office of former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani in the Presidential Palace in the capital, Kabul.

A few hours earlier, the Taliban entered Kabul. The group’s fighters took over the city that was abandoned by government forces. The group said that the step is meant to “prevent chaos and theft” in the capital.

One of the officials told Al Jazeera that all government buildings in Kabul are now under the control of Taliban fighters. The official went on to assure Afghan officials as well as army and security commanders that their safety will be guaranteed by the group.

“We entered here after twenty years of fighting foreign forces, and we preferred that Kabul be handed over peacefully,” the official said.

Another official of the Taliban, the central security commander, revealed that the group’s leadership is preparing to return to Kabul from Qatar.

The interview was held following reports of explosions near the Presidential Palace, the US Embassy and in other parts of Kabul. Some sources speculated that the explosions may have been the result of US strikes.

While Al Jazeera was airing the interview, Ghani, who reportedly arrived in Oman, issued a statement saying that he chose to resign from his position in order to prevent bloodshed. The former President claimed that the Taliban was preparing a large attack on Kabul.

Meanwhile, the situation in Kabul Airport remains chaotic. The US military announced that all commercial flights from and to the airport were suspended. Military evacuation is, however, still ongoing. Earlier, shots were reportedly fired at US troops evacuating American diplomats and citizens via the airport.

The future of Afghanistan seems uncertain. While many sources said that a plan to form an interim government is being finalized, sources close to the Taliban said that the group will soon announce the return of the “Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan”.

Flashback: Joe Biden 'overruled' top military commanders on Afghanistan withdrawal, VP Harris played 'key role'

President Joe Biden reportedly "overruled" top United States military commanders when he authorized the full withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan.

What did Biden do?

The Wall Street Journal reiterated Sunday that in ordering the full withdrawal of U.S. military forces from Afghanistan, Biden was ignoring the advice of top military commanders, who suggested retaining a nominal force in Afghanistan to help maintain security.

From the WSJ:

In contrast to the numerous Trump policies he reversed, he opted to carry out Mr. Trump's deal with the Taliban instead of trying to renegotiate it. In so doing, he overruled his top military commanders: Gen. Frank McKenzie, the commander of U.S. forces in the Middle East; Gen. Austin Scott Miller, who led NATO forces in Afghanistan; and Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Citing the risks of removing American forces to Afghan security and the U.S. Embassy, they recommended that the U.S. keep 2,500 troops in Afghanistan while stepping up diplomacy to try to cement a peace agreement.

The newspaper first reported the news in April.

According to the WSJ, Biden's decision was motivated by ending U.S. military involvement in Afghanistan ahead of the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, which prompted American intervention in the Middle Eastern country.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin also shared the concerns of top military leadership, the Journal reported in April.

What about VP Harris?

Vice President Kamala Harris claimed in April that she was the last person in the meeting room when Biden made the decision to order a full U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Politico reported at the time, "Harris says she had key role in Biden's Afghanistan withdrawal decision."

"I have seen him over and over again make decisions based exactly on what he believes is right," Harris said in the CNN interview on which Politico was reporting.

Anything else?

Later on Sunday afternoon, after the Taliban entered the Afghan presidential palace and the U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan reportedly evacuated the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, the Pentagon announced the deployment of an additional 1,000 U.S. troops to Afghanistan.

"The Pentagon is authorizing the deployment of another U.S. 1,000 troops to Kabul, boosting overall number expected in Afghanistan to about 6,000, two U.S. officials tell me. The additional 1,000 come from an 82nd Airborne Division brigade already deploying in response to crisis," Dan Lamothe, a Washington Post reporter, said.

Jen Kiggans Presents Red Flag Supporting, Monument Destroying Dan Crenshaw with Gift for ‘Fighting’ the Radical Left

The award came despite Crenshaw's history of repeatedly siding with the radical left against the Constitution, American history, President Trump, and millions of lawful American voters.

Alongside Virginia’s 2021 GOP nominees for statewide office, establishment-backed VA-2 Congressional candidate Jen Kiggans presented Texas Congressman and red flag gun confiscation advocate Dan Crenshaw with a gift for “fighting” the “radical left” in Washington. The award came despite Crenshaw’s history of repeatedly siding with the radical left against the Constitution, American history, President Trump, and millions of lawful American voters.

Crenshaw joined Kiggans and other members of Virginia’s GOP establishment in Virginia Beach to throw his support behind the 2021 statewide GOP ticket comprised of Glenn Youngkin for Governor, Winsome Sears for Lt. Governor, and Jason Miyares for Attorney General.

Like Crenshaw, the ticket has serious conservative credibility issues, with the candidates often accused of backing down from Democrat assaults on the 2nd Amendment and historical vandalism on the campaign trail – even as radical Democrats in Charlottesville moved to erase not just Confederate history, but the history of America’s founders from the city forever.

In a Facebook post from Kiggans’ State Senator account documenting Crenshaw’s visit, Kiggans said it was a “great honor” to meet with Crenshaw and present him with a “gift of thanks” for supposedly “being on the frontlines of our fight against the radical left in Washington, D.C.”

“He traveled all the way from Texas to help campaign with our awesome Virginia GOP ticket,” Kiggans posted. Comments to the post from voters made clear that few were impressed with Crenshaw’s appearance, or Kiggans’ and the statewide ticket’s embrace of him and his policies, with one commenter dubbing the Congressman “red flag, Trump-hating Crenshaw,” and another calling him “[John] McCain 2.0”

Canadian PM Trudeau Triggers Snap Election for Sept. 20

OTTAWA—Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Sunday called an early election for Sept. 20, saying he needed a new mandate to ensure voters approved of his Liberal government’s plan to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Trudeau, 49, is betting that high vaccination rates against the virus and a post-pandemic economic rebound will help him prolong and strengthen his grip on power. Newly-released data shows 71 percent of the country’s eligible population is fully vaccinated.

The election comes at a “pivotal, consequential moment” for Canada, Trudeau said.

“We will be taking decisions that will last not just for the coming months but for the coming decades. Canadians deserve their say. That’s exactly what we’re going to give them,” he told reporters.

Trudeau spoke after visiting Governor General Mary Simon, the representative of head of state Queen Elizabeth, to formally request the dissolution of Parliament.

Polls suggest the Liberals will win their third consecutive election but may not regain a majority in the 338-seat House of Commons. Trudeau currently has only a minority of seats, leaving him reliant on other parties to govern.

Nationally, Liberals would win 35 percent of the vote, compared with 30 percent for the main opposition Conservative Party and 19 percent for the left-leaning New Democrats, a Leger Marketing poll showed on Aug. 12.

The leader of the Conservatives, Erin O’Toole, criticized Trudeau for calling an election as the country faces a fourth wave of COVID-19, saying it undermines the efforts Canadians took to fight the pandemic.

“We shouldn’t be risking that for political games or political gain,” O’Toole told reporters.

The Liberals spent heavily on subsidies to businesses and individuals to limit the damage from COVID-19, sending both the national debt and budget deficits to record highs.

The Conservatives and New Democrats have in recent days condemned the idea of an early election, saying there was no need for it and describing the call as a power grab.

“This is a really important moment,” Trudeau said when asked repeatedly why he was calling an election during a pandemic.

He said some Conservative legislators had described as “tyrannical” the government’s push to make vaccinations mandatory for federally regulated industries.

“The answer to tyranny is to have an election,” he said.

Joint Chiefs Inform Senators Terror Threat From Afghanistan "Moved Up"

On Sunday Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley informed senators terrorist groups will be "reconstituted" in Afghanistan at a much greater speed than previously thought - and thus threat levels to US interests will likely increase. This after any gains made over 20 years of the US military's 'counterterror' mission in its Afghan 'forever war' and occupation seems to have evaporated overnight.

Milley's phone call to senators which involved top Biden admin officials was reported by Axios, and included Sen. Lindsey Graham grilling both the Joint Chiefs chairman and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on events surrounding the rapid weekend takeover of Kabul by the Taliban. Secretary of State Antony Blinken was also on the call and subject of Congressional questioning over the still ongoing disaster.

The two top defense officials were asked "whether, in light of recent events, they will revise an assessment to Congress in June of a 'medium' risk of terrorist groups reconstituting in Afghanistan within two years," by the senators.

The Great Washington Ponzi Scheme in Afghanistan Comes Crashing Down

The United States lost the Afghanistan War a long time ago, as is quickly becoming apparent as the Taliban take city after city.

After 2002, it was never clear what the US war aim was. You can’t win a war if you don’t have a clear objective. The war is lost before it begins.

The initial US military action against the Taliban government of Mulla Omar in fall, 2001, was based on the refusal of Kabul to hand over Usama Bin Laden and other al-Qaeda terrorists who carried out the September 11 attacks. There is no reason to believe that the Taliban leadership was aware of what al-Qaeda was planning. The Taliban are Pushtuns, al-Qaeda was Arab expatriates. Pushtuns were known to get sick and tired of the Arabs lording it over them and occasionally to stick a shiv between their ribs on the march.

Al-Qaeda was not, however, just a “guest” of the Taliban. It was their 55th Brigade. The al-Qaeda fighters were the best in the country and were the only ones who could take on the Northern Alliance remnants in the country’s northeast with any success. Mulla Omar would never have turned them over to the US. For one thing, he needed them at the home front. But not only the Taliban but many in al-Qaeda felt deeply betrayed by Bin Laden’s use of their hospitality to stage a brazen attack on a superpower, bringing the full weight of the international community down on them.

The US gave the Northern Alliance (fundamentalist Sunni Tajiks, Shiite Hazaras and secular Uzbeks) air support, and enabled them to roll up the Taliban in city after city by taking out the few military vehicles the Taliban had. All the forces were poorly equipped. The Northern Alliance forces took Mazar-i Sharif on horseback, with US special operations guys in tow, painting lasers on Taliban targets for the airstrikes. Some of the spec ops guys didn’t know how to post when riding and boy were they sore the next day.

The Northern Alliance were fighting for their lives, and they defeated the Taliban in the field. The Taliban are genocidal toward Shiite Hazaras, some 22 percent of the population, clustered in the center of the country. The Persian-speaking Tajiks, their Islam inflected with Sufism or Muslim mysticism, deeply feared the Taliban and their Saudi-influenced ideology. Many Uzbeks, influenced by the industrialization in the north and the proximity to the former Soviet Union, were urbane and relatively secular-minded, and hated the hyper-fundamentalism of the Pushtun Taliban.

By spring of 2002, the Taliban were roundly defeated. Opinion polls showed that their favorability rating was good only among 5 percent of the population.

George W. Bush, who spearheaded the invasion, was never very interested in Afghanistan, though maybe he saw that old Gary Cooper film “The Lives of a Bengal Lancer” on TV, because he once spoke of the “romance” of the fighting in Afghanistan. As long as I live, I’ll never get over W.

Polish PM Says Family of Envoy to Israel Threatened as Diplomatic Spat Deepens

This comes after Polish President Andrzej Duda approved on Saturday a controversial law that will restrict the possibility of restitution claims for property stolen from Jews by the Nazis

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said Sunday that he had decided to "safely bring back home the children of Poland's ambassador to Israel," citing concerns of "growing hatred towards Poland and Polish citizens in Israel" in light of the developing diplomatic crisis between both countries.

Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin set to resign after losing majority

With his last-ditch plan to seek opposition backing for his government rejected, embattled Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin appears set to resign after failing to cobble up majority support.

Key points:

The PM acknowledged on Friday he might have lost majority support in Parliament

Under Malaysia's constitution, the prime minister must resign if he loses majority support

A Malaysian minister said the Prime Minister would submit his resignation to the King on Monday

Mohamad Redzuan Mohamad Yusof, a minister in the Prime Minister's Department, said Mr Muhyiddin would submit his resignation to the King on Monday.

"Tomorrow, there will be a special Cabinet meeting. After that, he is expected to have an audience with the King and present his resignation," Mr Redzuan told The Associated Press.

He said the premier informed members of his Bersatu Party at a meeting Sunday that he had exhausted all avenues to sustain his administration and resigning was the last resort.

Mr Redzuan said Mr Muhyiddin would point out to the monarch that his alliance still had the biggest bloc of support despite losing the majority.

If Mr Muhyiddin steps down on Monday and it is accepted by the palace, it will spark fresh political uncertainties and a second change of government in Malaysia since the pandemic began last year.

"It is up to the King to use his wisdom to make a decision," Mr Redzuan added.

More than a dozen politicians from the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), the largest party in the ruling alliance, have pulled their support for the government, which is enough to cause its collapse because of its razor-thin majority. Two UMNO ministers have resigned from the Cabinet.

Under Malaysia's constitution, the prime minister must resign if he loses majority support and the king can appoint a new leader who he believes has the confidence of Parliament.

Mr Muhyiddin initially insisted he still had majority support and would prove it in Parliament next month. But in a U-turn on Friday, he acknowledged he might have lost majority support in Parliament and he sought the backing of opposition parties to keep his government from collapsing.

Federal MP Andrew Laming threatens journalist Shane Dowling with defamation after article naming Laming as an “online stalker and alleged sexual predator”

Federal MP Andrew Laming implied he would sue me for defamation on Friday night (13/8/21) in relation to an article I published Thursday morning (12/8/21) where I called him an “online stalker and alleged sexual predator”. Laming made the threat via Twitter, which is rather unusual, and he demanded a right of reply or for me to delete the article. The article is still up, and he has gone missing regarding a right of reply which I told him I would publish.

In the last couple of months Laming has been using a lawyer, Rebekah Giles who also represents Christian Porter, to threaten and intimidate journalists and politicians and most have buckled because of a technicality. Laming didn’t take an upskirt picture of a female he didn’t know which is what the journalists and politicians he threatened said. What he did do was take a picture of her bending over with her underwear showing which meant they were likely to lose a defamation case if it went to court. So, the journalists and politicians apologised.

The SMH reported on the 28/6/21 in an article titled “Federal Liberal MP Andrew Laming threatens 10 MPs and journalists with legal action”:

Federal Liberal MP Andrew Laming has threatened defamation action against at least ten journalists and politicians and is suing ABC journalist Louise Milligan, over tweets and comments that alleged he had taken an “upskirting” photo of a woman who was bending over.

The legal blitz by Dr Laming’s lawyers has prompted a flurry of written retractions and apologies, issued over Twitter in recent weeks, including from Labor Senator Murray Watt, Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young, former independent Senator Derryn Hinch, Queensland Labor MP Don Brown, and Chaser-owned website The Shot.

Labor Senator Kristina Keneally deleted a tweet after she received a concerns notice from Ms Giles, but has not apologised publicly.

Journalist and author Georgie Dent, represented by Marque Lawyers partner Michael Bradley, has also deleted a post but not apologised since being contacted by Ms Giles.

Nine, which owns this masthead, has also received concerns notice from Dr Laming’s lawyers in connection with its reporting of the allegations against him, but no apology has been issued. (Click here to read more) Laming apparently sent legal threats to numerous others as well.

Laming has no legal basis to threaten me with defamation proceedings which might account for why he did not send a letter from his lawyer Rebekah Giles but instead sent me a public message on Twitter as per below which was an attempt to intimidate me.
