This little section in the FEC regs that determine what is not a personal use of campaign funds is a fucking joke.

 

making donations that would only be necessary because you are running for or hold office is legal

 

Meaning among many other things that paying hush money to a blackmailer is legal. As well as donating campaign funds to canvassers, political allies (private and public sector), churches, charities, and even your child’s fiancée’s organizations.

 

The tax code on campaign laws are designed to be unenforceable. Add this to the list of shit that needs cleaning up around here.
