Trump administration negotiators signed a peace agreement with the Taliban on 29 February 2020 in Doha, Qatar after several years of negotiations. The deal committed Washington to withdraw all US and NATO forces from the war-torn country, while the Sunni militant group agreed not to attack US forces, and pledged not to allow al-Qaeda* and other terrorist groups from operating in territories under its control. Moscow, Aug 16 (Prensa Latina) Russian oil company Lukoil on Monday announced that it has started drilling the first exploration well at Block 12, in Mexico, at a depth of 207 meters.

'After drilling, the geological and geophysical data will be analyzed to make a decision on further exploration at Block 12,' the company stated in a press release.

Earlier, Lukoil and Italian company ENI found light crude oil at Block 10, at a well located about 65 kilometers off the coast of the states of Veracruz and Tabasco, in the Gulf of Mexico, a sea area the country shares with the United States and Cuba.

On August 2, the company informed about the discovery of new oil reserves in the Sayulita well of the Mexican platform, estimated at 200 million barrels of crude oil.

An official with US Central Command has reportedly met with Taliban officials in Doha, Qatar, and struck a deal that will allow for American evacuations to continue from Kabul’s airport uninhibited by the militant force.

The Associated Press reported on Monday that General Frank McKenzie met with Taliban leaders and expressed the US’s promise that any attempts to stop the evacuations or harm US personnel at the airport would be met with force.

The Taliban reportedly agreed to not interfere with evacuations, a US defence official told the news service.

A Pentagon official referred reporters back to President Joe Biden’s statement on Saturday, before Kabul’s fall, when asked about whether the Taliban agreed to not interfere with the evacuations; Mr Biden’s statement did not answer that question.

The pages were almost all reverted to normal within minutes, and it remains unclear who was behind the apparent cyberattack and whether they had targeted specific pages for vandalism. The Wikimedia Foundation, which runs Wikipedia, has not yet commented on the incident.

Top Democrats in the New York state legislature will complete their impeachment investigation of Gov. Andrew Cuomo, reversing course after announcing they'd suspend the impeachment probe on Friday due to Cuomo's imminent resignation from office.

"The Assembly Judiciary Committee will continue to review evidence and issue a final report on its investigation of Governor Cuomo," Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and Assemblyman Charles Levine, chair of the chamber's Judiciary Committee, said in a Monday statement.

"In doing so, the committee will take all appropriate steps to ensure that this effort does not interfere with various ongoing investigations by the United States Attorney concerning nursing home data; the attorney general concerning the Governor's memoir; and local law enforcement authorities in five jurisdictions…concerning allegations of sexual harassment,"
