Senators John McCain (R-AZ), Susan Collins (R-ME), and John Sununu (R-NH), will arrive in the Antarctic region later this week for an educational trip to observe research regarding climate and atmosphere in Antarctica and New Zealand.
The Senate delegation will visit the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station and tour research facilities and scientific sites. In addition, they will take a helicopter tour of the Dry Valleys and Lake Hoare, and will fly along the Antarctic ice edge. The senators will visit McMurdo Station and Crary Science Center, among other historic structures. While in New Zealand, they will view Canterbury Plains, Rakaia Gorge, and numerous glaciers from the air.
