The United States used to have scads of small family farms. These farms were (intentionally) destroyed, I think, to make Americans dependent on Big Food.

This is the second story I'm aware of where an Amish producer faces ridiculous penalties/punishment for providing a health product that the "government" takes issue with even though there are no customer complaints.
