Something I thought about a while ago: There is no flag less likely for someone to adopt than the white flag because we have been conditioned to look down upon it. Thinking about other ways it could be viewed though:

First, considering the colour, white is the colour of pure light.

Second, it represents that the one who flies it has no desire to fight.

Third, the pure white standard bears no symbols.

To me it seems that flag could quite easily represent the concept of accepting that you are a part of the absolute, and that you do not desire conflict with others. Such a message is the greatest enemy of those who wish to divide and conquer. There is certainly motive at least to corrupt such a flag's meaning.

Seeing the Taliban raising a white flag now raises my eyebrow. Even if my speculation is incorrect, the colour white still evokes the concept of peace in the human psyche. I'll be quite interested to see how they move Afghanistan forwards.
