Members of the Carmel Clay School Board will not hear public comment at their board meeting next week and moved the meeting to be in the morning.

"Due to recent events at School Board meetings, Public Comment has been temporarily suspended," per the district's notice for the meeting on August 23. It did not say how long the suspension would be.

School boards are not required by law to hear public comments at their regular board meetings, but most do and consider it good public policy. There are some cases, such as a public hearing, where a public comment period is required.

Per the notice, the Carmel school board and its policy committee along with district general counsel are reviewing the board's public comment policy. This was previously underway as regularly scheduled policy review.
