Maricopa County Responds To Attorney General’s Office – Requests “No Further Action” Be Taken
On August 6, Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich began an investigation into Maricopa County’s noncompliance with legislative subpoenas.
The Arizona Senate has subpoenaed the County multiple times with ongoing noncompliance. The materials requested are necessary to finish the full forensic audit of Maricopa County’s 2020 election.
Arizona State Senator Sonny Borrelli requested AG Brnovich to investigate the County’s noncompliance with the legal and enforceable subpoenas.
In a notice to Maricopa County, the Attorney General’s office requested a written response by Friday, August 20.
Maricopa County responded yesterday, claiming innocence and asking the Attorney General to take no further action.

On behalf of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors (“MCBOS”), we respond to your letter dated August 6, 2021 regarding Senator Sonny Borrelli’s Request for Investigation (the “Request”) as to MCBOS’ alleged “failure to comply with valid and enforceable legislative subpoenas that originated from the AZ State Senate.” [Request, Exhibit A]. Specifically, Senator Borrelli claims that MCBOS is acting in conflict with A.R.S. §§ 41-1151, 1153-54 and 16-624 [see Ex. 1 at 1] by failing to produce certain documents and electronic materials requested in a legislative subpoena issued on July 26, 2021 (the “Subpoena”). [Ex. A at Attachment; see also Subpoena, Exhibit B].
The allegations in the Request are without merit. The Senate’s authority to enforce the Subpoena through its statutory contempt powers expired on June 30, 2021 with the adjournment of the legislative session. Accordingly, any action taken by MCBOS in relation to the Subpoena did not “violate[] state law or the Constitution of Arizona,” and we respectfully ask that your Office “take no further action” regarding the Request. A.R.S. § 41-194.01(A), (B)(3).1
On August 2, 2021, MCBOS provided written responses and objections to the Subpoena (the “Objection”). [Objection, Exhibit C].3 In pertinent part, the Objection advises that: (i) MCBOS “has already produced every responsive record in its custody and control” relating to Request No. 3, and it does not possess any passwords to access the ballot tabulation devices used in connection with the general election [see Ex. C at 2]; and (ii) in lieu of producing its routers (which would put sensitive, confidential data at risk, render law enforcement vulnerable to hackers, and disrupt operations costing millions of dollars), MCBOS has already provided numerous items in satisfaction of Request Nos. 5 and 6—i.e., windows event logs, precinct-based tabulator logs, central count tabulator logs, election management system workstations, sever logs, and all of the election tabulation equipment used in the general election—which sufficiently enable the Senates’ auditor to determine whether the tabulation equipment connected to the internet at any point during the election. A monthslong investigation into the 2020 presidential vote has found that Democrat-run cities and states used the COVID-19 crisis to change the rules that likely helped Joe Biden’s ascent to the White House.
The Republican National Committee report found several cases in which Democrats used the virus as an excuse to scuttle voter identification rules, flood mailboxes with ballots, and limit poll watching and vote-count observations.
“The pandemic brought chaos and comprehensive changes to voting processes beginning in the spring primaries and lasting through the post-election process,” said the 23-page report from the RNC’s Committee on Election Integrity, created by party Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel.
“Democrats, including some public officials, used the pandemic as a pretense to achieve long-sought policy goals, such as expanded mail voting and the elimination of key safeguards, specifically for absentee voting, such as witness and ID requirements,” added the report provided to Secrets.

Landmark Study Proves COVID Vaccines Much Less Effective Than Advertised
The largest study yet to examine the efficacy of COVID vaccines in the wild has just been published by the University of Oxford and UK Office for National Statistics, and unsurprisingly it found that the efficacy rates for the Pfizer and Moderna are significantly lower than the 90%+ rates first advertised from the initial controlled trials.
According to the study, a preprint of which was published on Thursday, while the Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca jabs still offer "good" protection against new infections, their efficacy has been reduced compared with Alpha. While having two doses of either vaccine still provides "at least the same level of protection as having had COVID-19", those who were vaccinated after already being infected demonstrated even higher levels of protection than those who either weren't infected and only received the jabs, or were infected, but didn't receive the jabs.
"We’re seeing here the real-world data of how two vaccines are performing, rather than clinical trial data, and the data sets all show how the delta variant has blunted the effectiveness of both the Pfizer and AstraZeneca jabs," said Simon Clarke, an associate professor in cellular microbiology at the University of Reading.
Despite all this, even after receiving two doses of a jab, those infected with delta showed much higher peak levels of the virus than those infected with alpha, or some other variant.
The study also highlighted differences between between vaccines: for example, the Moderna jab had "similar or greater effectiveness" against the delta variant as a single dose of the other vaccines. And while the Pfizer and Moderna jabs showed greater initial efficacy against infection than the AstraZeneca jab, this protection premium erodes after only 4-5 months.

Taliban Official Confirms No Democracy In Afghanistan, Council Will Likely Rule
The Taliban terrorist group is considering using a council to govern Afghanistan after taking over the country, while leaving the movement’s supreme leader, Haibatullah Akhundzada, in overall charge.
Akhundzada would likely play a role above the head of the council, who would be akin to the country’s president, Taliban official Waheedullah Hashimi, who has access to the group’s decision-making, said in an interview near the Afghanistan–Pakistan border.
One of Akhundzada’s deputies could “play the role of ‘president,'” he added.
The power structure that Hashimi outlined would bear similarities to how Afghanistan was run the last time the Taliban was in power from 1996 to 2001. Then, supreme leader Mullah Omar remained in the shadows and left the day-to-day running of the country to a council.
The Taliban’s current supreme leader has three deputies: Mawlavi Yaqoob, son of Mullah Omar, Sirajuddin Haqqani, leader of the extremist Haqqani network, and Abdul Ghani Baradar, who heads the Taliban’s political office in Doha and is one of the founding members of the group.
The way the country will be governed is still being worked out, according to Hashimi. But he ruled out democracy.
“There will be no democratic system at all because it does not have any base in our country,” he said.
“We will not discuss what type of political system should we apply in Afghanistan because it is clear. It is Sharia law and that is it.”
Sharia law is based on the Koran and is infamous for permitting execution for a range of actions, including defaming Islam, and harsh punishments for others, such as amputation for theft.
Under Sharia law, a husband can discipline his wife at will and prevent her from leaving the house without his permission. It’s also used to force women to don burkas, or clothing that covers all of their bodies except for their eyes.
Taliban officials have claimed they’ll form “an inclusive government” in response to demands from U.S. and international officials, but also said they would respect women’s rights only “within the bounds of Sharia law.”

University In Connecticut To Fine, Block Internet Access To Unvaxx'd Students
Students at Connecticut’s Quinnipiac University will be fined up to $2,275 and lose internet access if they fail to comply with the university’s COVID-19 vaccination policies.
The private liberal arts college in New Haven County announced the new penalties on Aug. 16 in an email sent to some 600 students who haven’t yet provided proof of COVID-19 vaccination or requested an exemption.
Students at Quinnipiac were required to submit their vaccination records by Aug. 1, according to an email obtained by The Epoch Times.
Those not in compliance by Sept. 14 will begin to face $100 weekly fines, with increases of $25 after every two weeks, up to a maximum of $200 per week. They also won’t be able to use the school’s campus network and Wi-Fi.
Students could be fined up to $2,275 in total for the fall term, the university warned. The penalties cover those who don’t receive a vaccine, as well as exempted students who miss weekly COVID-19 testing. There will be a $100 fine for each missed test.
Students who received one dose of a two-dose regimen by Aug. 25 won’t face a fine, as long as they are fully vaccinated by Sept. 14, the university officials said. But they still need to participate in weekly testing until two weeks after their second dose and upload a negative test result before returning to campus.
“We wish we did not have to take these measures, but protecting the health of our QU community by ensuring compliance with our vaccination requirement is the only way we can ease most of our COVID-related restrictions and safely return to our in-person learning and living activities,” Chief Experience Officer Tom Ellett said in the email sent to students.
“Thank you for your attention to these important health protocols.”
Quinnipiac isn’t the first school in the United States to use financial means to enforce its vaccination policy.
Rhodes College, a private liberal arts college serving a little more than 2,000 students in Memphis, Tennessee, announced in June that students must be vaccinated or pay a mandatory testing fee of $1,500.
“Upon returning to campus, non-vaccinated students will be charged a $1,500 per semester Health & Safety fee to cover the costs of mandatory testing,” a letter to the Rhodes community read.
Similarly, West Virginia Wesleyan College, a private liberal arts college in West Virginia, announced earlier this month that it will fine any unvaccinated student $750. Those students also are required to wear masks while indoors, undergo weekly testing, and maintain physical distance. Any students who are diagnosed with COVID-19 and are unable to leave campus will pay another $250 fine.

Former UK MP charged with seven counts of fraud over allegedly false parliamentary invoices
A former British Labour MP has been charged by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) with seven counts of fraud by false representation over the filing of fake invoices to the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority.
The allegations against Jared O’Mara date back to 2019, when he was a sitting Member of Parliament. The former politician has been charged jointly with ex-aide Gareth Arnold, who faces six counts of fraud.
Alongside the fraud accusations, O’Mara was charged jointly with John Woodliff with a Proceeds of Crime Act offence.
The charges relate to an allegation that O’Mara submitted fraudulent invoices to the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority. In a statement on Thursday, the head of Special Crime at the CPS, Rosemary Ainslie, announced the decision to charge the three individuals “after reviewing a file of evidence from South Yorkshire Police.”
O’Mara was elected as a Labour MP in 2017, defeating former Deputy PM Nick Clegg. However, in 2018, he resigned from Labour after being suspended from its parliamentary party amid an investigation into homophobic and misogynistic comments he was accused of making online.
Back in 2019, Arnold resigned from O’Mara’s office by using the former MP’s Twitter account to accuse O’Mara of having “inexcusable contempt” for his constituents, calling him “the most disgustingly morally bankrupt person I have ever had the displeasure of working with.”

Washington Post accused of providing PR to Taliban after arguing group incites less violence than Trump on Twitter
The Washington Post has come under fire after publishing an article insinuating that the Taliban hasn’t been banned from Twitter like former President Donald Trump because it incites less violence in its carefully worded posts.
The headline hails the Taliban’s “sophisticated social media practices that rarely violate the rules.” In the article, reporters Craig Timberg and Cristiano Lima wrote that the Taliban has “used strikingly sophisticated social media tactics to build political momentum” and “make a public case that they’re ready to lead a modern nation state after nearly 20 years of war.”
The reporters also argue that the Taliban – who they described as “a group that espouses ancient” and “traditional moral codes” – has been using messaging on social networks such as Facebook and Twitter that “challenges the West’s dominant image of the group as intolerant, vicious and bent on revenge, while staying within the evolving boundaries of taste” – a tone that some found oddly sympathetic to the terrorist group.
