Dr. Fauci says he 'strongly' supports local vaccine mandates for all school teachers and employees

Dr. Anthony Fauci said Thursday that he strongly supported vaccine mandates for all eligible school teachers and employees.

Fauci made the comments during an interview by Jake Tapper on his CNN show.

"For anybody listening right now, any school districts or teachers, do you think," Tapper asked, "if we're talking about protecting kids, the smart decision would be for school districts and states to mandate vaccines for all those who are eligible for teachers, faculty and staff at schools?"

"I feel strongly that way, Jake, I really do," Fauci responded.

"I mean we want to protect our children, we want to keep them in school physically in the classroom. We've spoken often on this show on the deleterious effects of keeping kids out of school physically, mental health issues, social developmental issues," he explained.

"But if you're gonna do that, you've got to create a safe environment. And there are a few ways of doing that. One of the most important ways is to surround the children with people who are vaccinated if they are eligible to be vaccinated. And that means teachers and personnel in the school," Fauci continued.

"We got to maintain the safety of the children at the same time we provide them with an education in a way that does not hinder them in the way virtual learning does," he concluded.

Tapper responded, "An important lesson for anybody in a school board, or teachers' union, or school administrator to hear."

Fauci has said previously that he expected that local organizations would order their own vaccine mandates without the federal government issuing a national command.

"This is very serious business," Fauci said in August. "You would wish that people would see why it's so important to get vaccinated. But you're not going to get mandates centrally from the federal government."

Fauci also said Thursday that vaccines for children younger than 12 should be approved soon but he could not say when that might be.

"I hope that will be soon, but I can't guarantee it," he said.

McConnell, 43 GOP senators ask Garland to make Durham's Russia probe report public 'upon completion'

“Attorney General Merrick Garland must pledge to publicly release the full report and allow Special Counsel Durham to continue his investigation uninhibited past September 2021,” says Blackburn

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and 43 Republican senators, including Sen. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee and Sen. Rick Scott of Florida, asked Attorney General Merrick Garland on Thursday for an update on the status of Special Counsel John Durham’s investigation into the Crossfire Hurricane probe and requested that he make the report public when it's complete.

“Attorney General Merrick Garland must pledge to publicly release the full report and allow Special Counsel Durham to continue his investigation uninhibited past September 2021,” Blackburn, one of the senators who signed the letter, said in a statement. “We are over two years into the investigation of how the Obama-Biden FBI spied on an incoming president, and we still do not have answers. America’s national security apparatus was weaponized to take down President Trump, and the American people deserve to know how this occurred.”

Durham was appointed by former U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr to investigate the origins of the FBI’s probe into potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

"Mr. Durham was later elevated to special counsel in October 2020 so he could continue his work with greater investigatory authority and independence. The Special Counsel’s ongoing work is important to many Americans who were disturbed that government agents subverted lawful process to conduct inappropriate surveillance for political purposes," read the senators' letter to Garland.

"The truth pursued by this investigation is necessary to ensure transparency in our intelligence agencies and restore faith in our civil liberties. Thus, it is essential that the Special Counsel’s ongoing review should be allowed to continue unimpeded and without undue limitations. To that end, we ask that you provide an update on the status of Special Counsel Durham’s inquiry and that the investigation’s report be made available to the public upon completion," the senators added.

“This is for America!” QAnon Believer Admits To Paintball Attack on U.S. Servicemembers at Reserve Center

On Wednesday, Ian Alan Olson of Nashotah, Wisconsin, appeared in federal court in Milwaukee and pleaded guilty to attacking United States Servicemen.

As detailed in a plea agreement filed in the case, on March 15, 2021, Olson drove his vehicle to the U.S. Army Reserve station in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. Olson then got out of his vehicle, produced what appeared to be a rifle, pointed it at two uniformed U.S. Army servicemen who were the station’s parking lot, and exclaimed “This is for America.” Olson then fired the weapon, which turned out to be a paintball gun, directly at the two servicemen. After Olson’s paintball gun jammed, the servicemen tackled him to the ground. “You’re lucky it jammed,” he said.

Both servicemen “initially believed Olson was holding a real firearm and they feared that Olson intended to shoot and kill them,” court documents say.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported: Court documents show Olson traveled to Washington, D.C., in March, before the incident in Pewaukee, and was admitted to a hospital for psychological evaluation after he made concerning comments to the U.S. Capitol Police.

According to a report from the Capitol Police, on March 3 Olson approached a member of the National Guard in D.C. and said he was “’maybe going to do something crazy stupid tomorrow” and asked them not to shoot him.

Olson also said his actions would “be big” and that he was not afraid to die for his mission.

Court records show Olson was admitted to a hospital March 5 and stayed there for four days. He was diagnosed with a “brief psychotic disorder,” according to an arrest warrant.

Watch: Extended interview between John Howard and Chris Uhlmann

Former Prime Minister John Howard has recalled the moment he decided Australia would pledge military support to the US following the September 11 attacks.

Mr Howard was in the US on September 11, 2001, and was set to address Congress when Al Qaeda toppled the World Trade Centre towers.

Days later, flying home on Air Force Two, he said he spoke to then-Foreign Minister Alexander Downer.

"I think it was Alexander Downer who said in that conversation, why don't we invoke the ANZUS treaty,"Mr Howard told Nine Political Editor Chris Uhlmann in an exclusive interview.

"We agreed then that was the right thing to do."

'When people say it is a failure they have to factor into that judgement, if they make a judgement, what might have happened if we'd done nothing'

Mr Howard said the evidence that the attacks had been carried out by Al Qaeda out of Afghanistan was "overwhelming" from the early stages.

And as the 20-year US-led occupation of the country ends in a lightning takeover by the Taliban, he denied the mission had been a failure.

"Judged by the original reason for going in, it was a total success because there was no like attack coming out of Afghanistan organised by Al-Qaeda," he said.

"When people say it is a failure they have to factor into that judgement, if they make a judgement, what might have happened if we'd done nothing."

He said the great bulk of soldiers who served in Afghanistan that he had spoken to had been glad for the opportunity, though he acknowledged that the families of the 41 soldiers killed in the country would have "a mixture of emotions".

"But can I say to them, they fought well, they fought bravely, they fought professionally, and the nation should always be in their debt," Mr Howard said.

"It was a proper and noble cause."

‘I can’t watch them die like that’: Alabama doc refuses to treat unvaccinated patients

A doctor in the state with the country’s lowest COVID-19 vaccination rate said he will soon refuse to treat anyone who is not inoculated against the deadly virus, explaining on Facebook, “COVID is a miserable way to die and I can’t watch them die like that.”

Dr. Jason Valentine, who works in Mobile, Alabama, posted a photo of himself on Facebook next to a sign that read, “effective Oct. 1, 2021, Dr. Valentine will no longer see patients that are not vaccinated against COVID-19,” according to AL.com.

The photo was subsequently deleted from Facebook, and a receptionist at Mobile’s Diagnostic and Medical Clinic Infirmary Health abruptly hung up when The Post called to interview Valentine about the message.

Before the post was deleted, Valentine said that it prompted three unvaccinated patients to inquire about getting a jab, according to the outlet.

“No conspiracy theories, no excuses. Just where do they go?” the doctor reportedly wrote.

Only 36 percent of Alabama’s population is fully vaccinated against COVID-19, far less than the national average of 52 percent, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

Valentine reportedly explained his decision in a letter to patients.

“We do not yet have any great treatments for severe disease, but we do have great prevention with vaccines. Unfortunately, many have declined to take the vaccine, and some end up severely ill or dead. I cannot and will not force anyone to take the vaccine, but I also cannot continue to watch my patients suffer and die from an eminently preventable disease,” the letter said, according to the outlet.

Under the Civil Rights Act, doctors can’t deny treatment based on a patient’s age, sex, race, sexual orientation, religion, or national origin, but its unclear if a doctor can refuse to treat a patient over vaccination status.

According to the American Medical Association’s Code of Medical Ethics, physicians are obliged to treat emergencies, but otherwise they are “not ethically required to accept all prospective patients … in certain limited circumstances.”

“In absence of a medical emergency, these limited circumstances include a situation when a patient may pose a threat to the health and wellbeing of the physician, staff, or other patients,” a medical source told The Post.

On Tuesday, the entire state of Alabama was out of reportedly ICU beds amid the ratcheting Delta variant crisis.

On Tuesday, there were 1,568 patients who needed ICU beds but only 1,557 ICU beds are available for the entire state, Don Williamson, president of the Alabama Hospital Association, told WFSA.

“This could have been prevented had we gotten vaccination numbers to higher levels.”

A 7-day average of 3,728 new cases in Alabama approached the state’s worst days of the pandemic in the early winter, when that number was just over 4,000, government statistics show.

They Knew: Leaked State Department Memo Warned Of Afghanistan Collapse

Around two dozen State Department officials at the US embassy in Kabul warned of a potential collapse following the Aug. 31 troop withdrawal deadline, according to the Wall Street Journal, citing a 'person familiar with the cable.'

Using a special 'dissent channel' within the State Department, the cable - sent to Secretary of State Antony Blinken and another top State Department official - warned of 'rapid territorial gains by the Taliban and the subsequent collapse of Afghan security forces,' and offered suggestions on how to speed up evacuation and mitigate the obvious crisis slated to ensue, two people told the WSJ.

In total, 23 US Embassy staffers - all Americans, signed the July 13 cable, which was given a rush status 'given the circumstances on the ground in Kabul.' In addition to Blinken, it was sent to the Director of Policy Planning, Salman Ahmad.

Blinken received the cable and reviewed it shortly afterwards according to the report.

The cable, dated July 13, also called for the State Department to use tougher language in describing the atrocities being committed by the Taliban, one of the people said.

The classified cable represents the clearest evidence yet that the administration had been warned by its own officials on the ground that the Taliban’s advance was imminent and Afghanistan’s military may be unable to stop it. -WSJ

According to the report, some 18,000 Afghans and their families who had applied for special US Immigrant Visas remained in Kabul in areas under Taliban control, while efforts to reach the airport have become increasingly difficult.

US intelligence officials have sparred with the White House over who was warning of what, and when. And as the Journal notes, the existence of this confidential State Department memo warning of impending doom adds a crucial piece to our knowledge of how this all went down.

Why Blinken and Biden didn't take immediate action despite receiving a 'dissent channel' emergency communication from their staff on the ground in Kabul is unknown, however Blinken is apparently so bad that John McCain called him "dangerous to America" in a 2014 Senate speech, adding that he was "one of the worst selections of a very bad lot" as Obama's nominee for Secretary of State.
