Anons are probably familiar with the concept of the Chinese needing to 'save face'. It is a fact that cannot be ignored, in ANY negotiation with a Chinese. Even ordering a hamburger at McDonalds turns out to be a face-saving match where the cashier tries to convince the customer to buy something extra or something different. To a westerner this process is infuriating.
But….to a master tactitian….I will propose that if the PLAN includes making friends with China ever, then it also needs to include a very big and very public opportunity for Xi to be the hero. Hold that thought in your minds as you witness the events in Afghanistan unfolding. Or the fentanyl episode unfolding, or the techno-spy game unfolding.
Unless Trump team plans to destroy China and wipe them off the face of the earth, then the future must include some situation where Xi becomes a hero. This was probably gamed out years ago when Trump visited the Forbidden City.
