There are about four other questionable things going on with this guy, but this Herbalife thing could have implications in CA: one of their biggest backers is Antonio Villaraigosa, former mayor of L.A. He's got some sort of honorary position as a consultant, getting paid big bucks. The whole thing is, as the article says, a big ponzi scheme. There's even a Netflix/Amazon Prime movie about it (produced by some Wall Street people who have bet big on a short).
The CEO was former Disney exec Michael O. Johnson (stepped down last year). There are tons of other big names tied to it. When this thing falls, many will fall with it.
Besides the story being huge, there's something else to note: look at the date on the story—March 7th, over a week ago. Now go do a search on Google for any kind of news on it, and nothing comes up.
This is just crazy…
Just bear in mind that everything they announce they're investigating him for is also something they can investigate BHO, HRC, et. al. for. Odds are pretty good that this might be to pave the way for an investigation into bad actors' dealings in NK, such as Eric Schmidt, NP, and others.
I wouldn't worry about it just yet. Besides, all this is really doing is giving ammunition for /ourguys to talk about "pay for play"
Right. And this is Reuters, one of the biggest news orgs in the world with ~48k employees. Surely they have to notice?
