DOCTORS at hospitals treating earthquake victims in Haiti’s capital have been kidnapped, forcing one of the institutions to declare a two-day shutdown in protest, officials said on Thursday.
The abductions of the doctors on Tuesday and Wednesday dealt a major blow to attempts to control criminal violence that has threatened disaster response efforts in Port-au-Prince.
Dr Workens Alexandre is among the country’s few orthopaedic surgeons, desperately needed for quake victims with broken limbs.
The Tuesday kidnapping of another doctor, an obstetrician who was on his way to perform an emergency caesarean delivery, occurred in Petionville, considered one of the safer and wealthier areas of the capital.
The doctor’s patient and her child both died due to the delay in treatment.
Kidnappers have contacted the families of both doctors, but there is no information on ransom demands

PHOENIX — Early next week, Republicans in the Arizona State Senate may get their first look at the Cyber Ninja audit of the Maricopa County 2020 election results.
In advance of its arrival, a group of local and national election experts tried to undercut allegations of voter fraud the report may claim.
Once Fann gets the report she will forward it to the Senate Audit team who will review, vet and verify all the source data used by the Cyber Ninjas. A process Ken Bennett, who served as the Senate liaison to the audit, says may take several weeks to complete. Only after that’s done, will the senate audit of the Maricopa County election be made public.
Audit spokesperson Randy Pullen told ABC15 that they have also obtained the envelope images for the county’s 1.9 million early ballots. Pullen said a separate contractor will analyze the images and write another report that will be delivered to the state senate at a later date. Pullen anticipated that the process may take about five days once a contract with a vendor is finalized.

Communist Party of Pakistan general secretary Imdad Qazi warned Wednesday of the serious consequences of the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan, which he said would boost jihadist groups across the region.
“This victory of the Taliban will give courage to their followers in Pakistan,” he said, calling for the country to develop “a serious defense strategy.” Qazi said, “At the same time, the democratic and progressive forces must reorganize their strategies in view of this situation.”
Groups including ISIS and the East Turkmenistan Islamic Movement (ETIM), which operates in China, will gain confidence following events in Afghanistan, he said. Qazi accused the United States of bringing the Taliban back to power as part of “the great game of imperialism,” in a move he said was backed by Pakistan.
Earlier this week, Beijing accused the U.S. of double standards regarding its commitment to fighting global terrorism, urging it to reconsider its position on al-Qaida ally ETIM. This year, the Trump administration removed the group from its list of proscribed organizations in what was described as cynical political maneuvering as part of the U.S.’s cold war against China.
The jihadist group is responsible for a wave of terror attacks in the Xinjiang Uyghur autonomous region, has sent units to fight alongside al-Qaida in Syria.
