I would like to know how they know the disease is a "Delta Variant" especially because there is no test to my knowledge for anything called a Delta Variant.

PCR amplification and electrophoresis will give a DNA pattern that can differentiate variant A from B, but it's costly, taes days and is manual.
So… no chance in hell they are running thousands of these tests to determine variants. It'll just be the swab up the nose (or ass) and a +ve/-ve insensitive shito-test.
