Defense Contractors Told Not To Personally Assist ‘Friends And Former Colleagues’ Stuck In Afghanistan

The Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) is telling personnel not to personally assist “friends and former colleagues” stuck in Afghanistan, according to an internal email obtained by the Daily Caller.

“If any Afghanistan national contacts a DCMA employee for assistance with asylum, the employee should in no way suggest or represent that the individual or DCMA is in a position to help,” the email read. “The employee should only inform the Afghanistan national that the State Department is the appropriate organization to contact.”

The email comes as veterans are scrambling online to help Afghans fleeing the Taliban. The official process for Afghan allies is proving difficult to navigate, with several indicators showing these channels are sorely lacking in expediency and competence.

A National Review article reported Saturday that an email dedicated for Priority 2 referral – for Afghans not eligible for Special Immigrant Visas (SIVs) – has been full for at least half a day. While this email appears to be separate from the one listed in the DCMA’s guidelines, it serves as an example of the struggles Afghans are having in getting through using official channels.

The DCMA email noted the State Department has set up an email address to handle inquires and informed DMCA employees that “there are strict federal guidelines for asylum requests” that do not include the agency. This particular email address was established “to facilitate the increased numbers of requests” the State Department is seeing, the DCMA memo noted.

In addition to the email address provided, the DCMA email suggested employees direct Afghanistan nationals to the State Department website for SIVs.

“There are also humanitarian relief efforts conducted through religious or other non-profit organizations,” the email read. “Referring Afghanistan nationals to this support, or otherwise assisting in these efforts isn’t prohibited. However, it must be done with the understanding that it’s a personal activity, and not being done as a federal employee, and not during official duty time.”

Three Arrests After 13-Year-Old Gang Raped on the Street in France

Three men in the city of Marseille have been taken into custody by police after allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl in the middle of the street earlier this month.

The three suspects, aged between 18 and 24, were arrested by police last weekend after allegedly sexually abusing the 13-year-old on the night of August 8th and are being held in pre-trial detention.

According to a report from the news website Actu17, the 13-year-old had been walking home in the 13th arrondissement of Marseille when she came across the three men and requested a cigarette from them.

Allegedly, the three men became aggressive with the young teen after realising she was by herself and forced her into an area with no exit and then took turns repeatedly raping her.

After the attack, the men threatened to kill the victim if she spoke to the police and reportedly took photographs of her before abandoning her on the street, a source close to the investigation said.

The victim did talk to the police, however, and they were able to use CCTV footage to identify an 18-year-old suspect who was taken into custody last Friday. Two days later the other suspects, aged 19 and 24, were also taken into custody.

While the 18-year-old claimed he had taken laughing gas that night and did not recall the events of the evening, the other two suspects denied their involvement entirely. A source close to the investigation said their DNA, including semen, was found on the clothing of the girl, however.

The incident is just the latest case of child sex abuse in France and follows a case for earlier this year that saw a man prey on minors in the Paris no-go suburbs of Seine-Saint-Denis by blackmailing them for sex on social media.

Child prostitution, another form of child abuse, has increased significantly in France in the last several years, with cases jumping 600 per cent from 2014 to 2020.

Woman Angry That Swedish Govt Paid Tens of Thousands to Migrant Who Raped Her

A Swedish rape victim has expressed anger that a Syrian migrant who raped her has been given £70k ($96k) in damages by the Swedish state, while she has received just £250 ($340).

The victim, a 42-year-old woman named Petra, was one of the victims of a Syrian migrant and his brother, who abducted and raped two women in the spring of 2017 in the city of Malmo.

She told the newspaper Expressen that the two men had entered her apartment in central Malmo during the middle of the day on March 19th of 2017 as she was resting in bed.

“Suddenly I had both men in the bedroom. I was woken by one of them screaming that I should lie down while the other spread my legs,” she said. Prosecutors say that the two Syrians raped her multiple times and beat her with punches and kicks to keep her quiet.

“They clearly threatened to kill me,” she said. “I ended up on the floor and there the violence continued. One of them also pointed some kind of gun at my head.”

After a time, both of the men left Petra’s apartment — but not before stealing her bank cards, her passport, and other belongings.

Following the arrest of the two Syrians, who had also locked up another woman in a basement for over 24 hours, Petra said she had to face them in a Swedish courtroom, where she says they laughed at her.

“I’m still going to a psychologist. I feel scared, don’t want to go out when it’s dark and cry a lot,” she said.

While Petra was awarded 225,000 Swedish kronor (£18,757/$25,552) in damages, she said she has only received 3,000 (£250/$340) so far.

One of the rapists, the younger of the brothers, was recently awarded 840,000 kronor by the Swedish state (£70,000/$96,000) after complaining that he had been tried as an adult but had supposedly been a minor at the time of the rapes.

His initial sentences for the crimes did not even amount to five years in prison, even after being slightly increased at an appeal.

DHS Extends Ban on Legal Nonessential Land Border Crossings

The Department of Homeland Security announced on Friday an extension of the non-essential travel ban at land border ports along the U.S./Mexico and U.S./Canada borders. The ban, now in place for over 18 months, prohibits nonimmigrant visa holders from entering the United States for recreational travel, shopping, or visiting relatives.

DHS put the Covid-19 travel ban in place in March 2020 and extended it on a monthly basis. This latest extension will push the potential expiration of the ban to September 21, 2021.

In a tweet by DHS on Friday, the agency said they are working closely with partners across the country and internationally to determine when the ban on travel can be safely lifted.

Breitbart Texas reported that many border cities have been negatively affected by the ban as they rely on daily shopper crossings to support local businesses.

In Eagle Pass, Texas, Mayor Rolando Salinas issued a statement estimating a loss in revenue of $350,000 to $450,000 that would have been collected at the city’s International Bridge over the course as of the last extension. This extension will add to that total. Many other border cities will lose revenue generated through hotel and sales taxes.

In larger border communities, the revenue gaps are staggering. In a letter to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas signed by five mayors in the San Diego, California, area, an estimated $7.5 million a week is being lost as the ban continues for another month.

Many hoped the ban would expire this week due to an increase in vaccinations in Mexico and Canada. Mexico received more than 1.3 million Johnson & Johnson doses from the United States in June. The vaccines are administered in 39 municipalities in Mexico along the border.

As the ban on legitimate tourist and consumer travel continues illegal migration is surpassing historical records. While border communities struggle to deal with the economic impact of the ban, they must simultaneously absorb the costs of surging illegal migration impacting their communities.

To avoid unused stocks of vaccines from hitting expiration date, Romania recently secured a deal with Ireland.

The Irish prime minister posted on his Twitter account a message announcing an agreement with Romania for the purchase of 700,000 additional doses of Covid-19 vaccines.

The vaccines are to be delivered to Ireland over the course of August and will be provided directly from Pfizer, in the form of a redistribution of doses originally ordered by Romania.

Ireland, looking to slow the spread of the Delta variant of coronavirus, currently has one of the highest rates of vaccination in Europe, with 73.8 percent of its adult population of 3.8 million receiving both doses.

Prior to the deal with Ireland, the south-eastern European nation also sold another 1.1 million doses of the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine to Denmark.

In a statement issued by the Danish minister of health, Magnus Heunicke explained that Romania wanted to sell surplus doses because demand for vaccines among its population is low.

As vaccination numbers drop, Romanian authorities have donated nearly half a million vaccines to the neighbouring Moldova, as well to Serbia and Ukraine.

Last month president Klaus Iohannis also announced that Romania will make a donation of 100,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines to Vietnam.

Bulgaria is also donating its unused vaccines mainly to neighbouring western Balkan countries.

Romanians are celebrating the news on social media.

Arizona Attorney General: Businesses can require employees to get vaccinated against COVID-19

Arizona's Attorney General announced on Aug. 20 that businesses within the State of Arizona can require their employees to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

A summary of a legal opinion written by Attorney General Mark Brnovich was posted to the Attorney General's website on Friday, amid ongoing debate over vaccine mandates.

"While public health measures may be pursued during emergencies, they cannot trample constitutionally guaranteed liberties," Brnovich wrote. "Arizonans should be free, without coercion, to make medical decisions regarding vaccination that they feel are best for themselves and their families."

Vaccine mandate acceptable for some entities, with exceptions

According to the opinion summary, private businesses in Arizona can, under federal and state law, mandate COVID-19 vaccination for employees, but they must provide reasonable accommodations for those who cannot due to a disability or a "sincerely held religious belief."

The same opinion summary also states that schools, public universities, community colleges, state government entities, and local government entities are banned by state law from requiring their employees to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Some of the laws, however, will take effect on Sept. 29.

Brnovich also wrote that a private business that mandate vaccination for its patrons must also provide reasonable accommodations for those who cannot due to a disability, and cannot discriminate against customers who can't get the vaccine due to a "sincerely held religious belief."

Opinion also touches on vaccine mandates for flying

The same opinion summary also talked about the issue of vaccine mandates for air travellers.

In the summary, Brnovich notes that domestic airlines in the U.S. are primarily governed by federal law, and there are no current federal laws that allows a domestic airline to require proof of COVID-19 vaccination or refuse to fly the passenger.

"Under federal regulation, an airline may not refuse a customer based on a communicable disease unless the customer (1) actually has a communicable disease (2) that is a direct threat to other passengers, and (3) cannot obtain a medical certificate setting forth preventative measures," Brnovich wrote. "It will be difficult for an airline to establish these requirements with respect to COVID-19 when airline service has continued throughout the pandemic with masking and ventilation as the primary preventative measures."

Australia refuses to take in 100 security staff who guarded the embassy in Kabul - as lawyer for claimants labels the knockback a 'disgrace'

Security guards who protected the Australian embassy in Afghanistan have been told they are not eligible for immediate evacuation Down Under, leaving them to an uncertain future under Taliban rule.

The Department of Foreign Affairs sent notification to the group of more than 100 sub-contractors who looked after the Australian embassy in Kabul.

A pro-forma rejection letter was emailed to the men on Friday to inform them they were 'not eligible for certification' under the At Risk Afghan Employees Visa Scheme.

It is understood one of the reasons they won't be offered protection in Australia is because they were not directly employed by the embassy, and were instead subcontractors.

The rejection letter thanks its recipients for their application for a visa and says Australia's Foreign Affairs Minister Marise Payne has considered them.

'Unfortunately, you are not eligible for certification under this visa policy,' the letter obtained by the ABC read.

The letter states an initial 3,000 humanitarian places will be allocated to Afghan nationals within Australia's 13,750-person annual program.

'Particular priority will be given to persecuted minorities, women and children, and those who have links to Australia,' the letter continues.

The templated response, which used the same file number for each of the 100 men, recommends the contractors continue to investigate their options.

The final line of the letter suggests the men contact a migration agent to 'discuss these avenues' and notes their details have been passed on to the Home Affairs Department, which processes the applications.
