The failed management of the covid crisis in NSW is underpinned by Premier Gladys Berejiklian’s continual lies at the daily press briefings which have been highlighted by WA Premier Mark McGowan at a media briefing on Friday (20-8-21). In this article, we’ll look at some of Premier Gladys Berejiklian’s key lies which she repeats daily. The failed NSW covid strategy is having a huge impact on the whole country and will continue to do so until it is managed properly so not only do the journalists have to call Premier Berejiklian out on her lies more but so do other State Premier’s.

In the below video WA Premier Mark McGowan exposed 2 key lies that Premier Gladys Berejiklian tells daily. Firstly, Berejiklian implies she has the support of other Premiers for her covid strategy which she clearly does not as McGowan trashes Berejiklian’s failed covid management in the video.

Secondly, Gladys Berejiklian claims the Doherty covid report says there can be less restrictions when the population is 70% vaccinated but that is only one of the conditions as there also needs to be low covid case numbers etc which Berejiklian fails to acknowledge at her daily press briefings.

In the above video Mark McGowan references the Doherty Report which is the what the national cabinet of the Prime Minister and State Premiers have based their covid strategy agreement on. The Guardian reported (20/8/21)

The national plan states that in the second phase, when vaccination rates reach 70% in the population aged 16 and above, lockdowns will be “less likely”. In the third phase, with vaccination rates of 80%, leaders would only ever pursue “highly targeted lockdowns” and vaccinated Australians should be able to travel interstate.

And that is what Premier Gladys Berejiklian’s keeps on saying every day and why she is pushing vaccinations, but she deliberately ignores other key facts in the Doherty Report, that other Premiers aren’t missing, which makes likely easing of restrictions anytime soon in NSW very unlikely:

Most of those jurisdictions used national cabinet on Friday to push for Doherty Institute modelling to be recalculated, after publicly warned that the modelling underpinning the targets was based on low Covid-19 community transmission, not an uncontrolled spread of hundreds of cases a day as is occurring in greater Sydney. Given NSW had 825 new covid cases today and with some predictions it could as high as 2200 a day in the next month even a 70% or 80% vaccination rate won’t lead to eased restrictions and interstate travel etc and that is the big lie that Premier Gladys Berejiklian is promoting daily.

In the below video University of Melbourne Professor Jodie McVernon, Director of Doherty Epidemiology answers journalists’ questions about the Doherty Institute modelling for National Cabinet. I have not watched the whole video, but Professor Jodie McVernon says vaccination by itself is not enough and she says at the 11.40 mark once the numbers are in the 1000’s or 10,000’s the horse has bolted which is telling because NSW recorded 825 new cases on Saturday (21/8/21) and the number has been going up.

Another Fugitive Italian Mafia Boss Arrested As "Super Mario" Cracks Down On Organized Crime

Italian police have apprehended another fugitive mafia boss as "Super" Mario Draghi shows his fellow Italians - and the world - that, in addition to being an economist, administrator and central banker, he's also an effective crime-fighter in a country that has long struggled with endemic organized-crime siphoning billions from its economy.

As the Italian police finally start to get the better of the various organized criminal groups based in southern Italy, another boss who effectively ran his crime organization despite being officially 'on the run' for years was apprehended earlier this month, Italian police have just revealed: Raffaele Imperiale, who Italian police described as "a leading exponent of international drug trafficking and money laundering," was arrested in Dubai on Aug. 4. Imperiale is being held in the United Arab Emirates, but is expected to be extradited to Italy.

For years, Imperiale has been known as the "Van Gough Boss" after police discovered several stolen works by the Dutch master in one of his homes.

Raffaele Imperiale, who Italian police said was "a leading exponent of international drug trafficking and money laundering," was arrested in Dubai on August 4. The arrest was only confirmed by Italian authorities this week, and Imperiale is being held in the United Arab Emirates before being extradited to Italy. Imperiale, 46, who had strong ties with powerful families of the Neapolitan Camorra, rose to fame after police found two paintings by Vincent van Gogh, which had been stolen from an Amsterdam museum in 2002, in a house that he owned near Naples.

The paintings the police discovered in Imperiale’s villa in the small town of Castellammare di Stabia were "Beach at Scheveningen in Stormy Weather," painted in 1882, and "Congregation Leaving the Reformed Church in Nuenen," painted in 1885. The Italian police said the recovered paintings had "inestimable value."

As the FT reports, while Italy’s best known organized criminal group remains the Sicilian Cosa Nostra - aka the original Mafia, the mafia's power has waned significantly over the past two decades due largely to law enforcement focusing on the organization. Meanwhile, criminals from other parts of Southern Italy, including the Neopolitan Camorra and Calabrian ’Ndrangheta, have grown stronger. Crime organizations from the ‘Ndrangheta have proven especially skilled at establishing direct contact with Latin American drugs cartels, which has allowed them to secure cheap and steady supplies of cocaine in large quantities.

The arrest follows other major arrests earlier this year: In March, Giuseppe Romeo, a top ‘Ndrangheta drugs trafficker, was arrested after years on the run in Barcelona in Spain. This month Domenico Paviglianiti, a veteran Calabrian crime boss who had been on the run after being mistakenly released from prison in 2019, was arrested in Madrid.

‘Liberté’: Thousands take to the streets in Paris to once again decry Covid-19 health pass restrictions

Thousands of people have marched in the center of the French capital for the sixth consecutive weekend to denounce the so-called coronavirus health pass that they see as an infringement of the rights of unvaccinated citizens.

The rallies began in mid-July after Emmanuel Macron’s government introduced a system that made presenting a vaccination certificate or negative Covid-19 test obligatory for those willing to visit a restaurant, theater, cinema and shopping mall or travel on a long-distance train.

The authorities insist that the QR codes are needed to encourage people to get the jabs and avoid the fourth lockdown in the country, which saw some 6.6 million getting infected and over 113,000 dying due to the coronavirus.

More than 55% of the French population have been already fully vaccinated against Covid-19. But those who haven’t got the shot yet or are not planning to at all, claim that the health pass diminishes their rights and turns them into second-class citizens.

Around 14,700 opponents of the measure again protested in Paris on Saturday. The figure came from the police, but the organizers have accused law enforcement of deliberately downplaying the attendance at previous events.

Demonstrators were beating drums, carrying banners with the word “Liberté” (liberty) and chanting: “Macron! We don’t want your pass!”

The protest, which united groups with right- and left-wing views, went off without any serious incidents.

Rallies against the QR codes also took place in Montpellier, Strasbourg, Bordeaux and elsewhere across France. There were some 220 demonstrations in various locations on Saturday, which were attended by 175,000 people, the police said.

‘Everything comes to an end’: Sweden’s PM announces 2nd resignation in 2 months

Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven will resign, again, following a tumultuous summer of political infighting in the Scandinavian country that ended in a no-confidence vote in his leadership.

In a speech on Sunday, Löfven announced that he would step down as the head of the Social Democrats, and would also resign as prime minister, in November.

“The decision has matured over time. I have been party chairman for ten years, prime minister for seven. These years have been amazing. But everything comes to an end. I want to give my successor the best of conditions,” he said, according to local media.

A new leader of Löfven’s center-left party will take over ahead of the country’s 2022 general election.

The decision comes less than two months after Löfven quit as prime minister in late June, a week after he lost a vote of no confidence. The political reprimand – marking the first time in Sweden’s history that a sitting prime minister lost a no-confidence vote – was triggered by a heated clash over housing market policy, costing Löfven the support of his long-time coalition partner, the Left Party.

At the time, Löfven said that his resignation was preferable to holding a drawn-out snap election, but it turned out that his departure was short-lived.

He was narrowly reelected as prime minister by parliament on July 7 after the leaders of Sweden’s political factions failed to form a new government.

Löfven has headed the Swedish government since 2014, but his time in office has been marred by years of shaky support. A close election in 2018 meant that it took four months to form a government after his party won 40.6% of the vote, just barely edging out the country’s center-right party, which secured 40.2%.

Harris Arrives in Singapore to Begin Southeast Asia Visit as US Focuses on Countering China in Indo-Pacific

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris arrived in Singapore on Aug. 22, as part of her Southeast Asia trip that will also take her to Vietnam. Her trip, which was announced last month, now has a new urgency following the Taliban’s seizure of Afghanistan.

Harris arrived on Sunday morning and was greeted by Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan. Upon her arrival, she wrote on Twitter: “Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific are critically important to the security and prosperity of the United States.”

Regional security, the global responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, efforts to promote a rules-based international order are among the issues that Harris will talk to leaders of both Singapore and Vietnam, according to the U.S. Embassy in Singapore.

Harris’ trip was first announced in July. Before her arrival, a senior administration official reaffirmed U.S. commitment to the region in a briefing on Aug. 19, saying that the United States was in the Indo-Pacific region “to stay” and Harris will advance the vision of a “free and open Indo-Pacific region” during her meetings in the two countries.

Harris’ trip comes at a pivotal time for the Biden administration, given concerns about the future of Afghanistan after the U.S. withdrawal, and how China could fill the vacuum left by the United States and expand its influence in the region.

Chinese diplomats and state-run media have launched a propaganda offensive about the poorly executed U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. One Chinese official said the withdrawal was “a laughingstock,” while state-run media have used the crisis as an opportunity to level threats against Taiwan while casting the United States as an unreliable ally.

The United States’ engagement with Singapore and Vietnam is also vital for the Biden administration as it sets out its agenda to rally allies to push back against the Chinese regime’s continued aggressive behavior in the South China Sea. Vietnam, along with the Philippines, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Brunei, is a claimant to the disputed sea.

Alan Chong, associate professor in international studies at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, recently told Japanese media Nikkei Asia that Harris’ trip could help “reassure America’s allies about America’s commitment, notwithstanding the Taliban takeover” in Afghanistan.

Chong added that Harris could use her trip to show Asian allies that the “United States will not retreat” in the region.

The Twitter account for OnlyFans just put out a tweet admitting that they would be nothing if not for the virtual prostitution that occurs on their website, which has greatly contributed to the site’s popularity in recent years.

“Dear Sex Workers, The OnlyFans community would not be what it is today without you. The policy change was necessary to secure banking and payment services to support you. We are working around the clock to come up with solutions. #SexWorkIsWork,” tweeted OnlyFans.

This comes after OnlyFans, where the vast majority of users are women posting sexually explicit videos and images for paying customers, announced that by October that the platform will be banning any “sexually-explicit content,” in order to “ensure the long-term sustainability of the platform and to continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans.” Republican Congressman Paul Gosar applauded the announcement following his initiation of Congressional pressure against the site in April this year, as was previously reported by National File.
