Economics Working Paper 21117

Abstract: This paper provides the most detailed and comprehensive data on relocations of California business headquarters between 2018 and 2021. We document that these headquarter exits have more than doubled in 2021. We discuss several economic factors that have led to these departures by raising business costs, reducing productivity, and reducing profitability, including tax policies, regulatory policies, labor costs, litigation costs, energy and utility costs, and concerns about a declining quality of life within the state. Unless policy reforms reverse this course, California will continue to lose businesses, both large established businesses, as well as young, rapidly growing businesses, some of which will become the transformational giants of tomorrow.

For the first six months of 2021, the number of companies relocating their headquarters out of

California is running at twice the rate for 2020. Our findings indicate 265 companies moved their

headquarters to other states just in the period from January 1, 2018, through June 30, 2021, based

on the date of the announcement or date of documentation with the state, whichever came first.

The losses are accelerating in that such relocations in the first half of 2021, which total 74,

exceed that for all of 2020. Every month in 2021, twice as many companies are relocating their

headquarters as in the prior year. The half-year monthly average for 2021 also significantly

exceeds the monthly averages for 2018 and 2019

Awoman, who fled Afghanistan after the country was taken over by the Taliban, has revealed the group's fighters had sex with dead bodies.

The woman, identified only as Muskan, had left Afghanistan after the Taliban overthrew the government and took control of Kabul. She had worked for the police force in Afghanistan, and is currently in India.

Speaking to local media in India, Muskan revealed the horrific condition of the country. The woman claimed the Jihadist group would kidnap women or shoot them dead, and added they were also involved in necrophilia, the practice of having sex with corpses.

โ€œThey rape dead bodies too. They donโ€™t care whether the person is dead or aliveโ€ฆ Can you imagine this?โ€ Muskan said, according to the North-Eastern Chronicle.

PHOENIX โ€“ Democrats heading the U.S. House Oversight and Reform Committee gave Cyber Ninjas until Friday to produce the information they have sought for more than a month, but stopped short Monday of issuing a subpoena.

The committee, which is the House's main investigatory panel, noted that the Florida-based company that has reviewed Maricopa County's ballots for the Arizona Senate has provided them only documents that were already in the public record.

It hasn't turned over records relating to its fundraisers for the ballot review, its communications with former President Donald Trump and his allies or with the Arizona Senate, the committee wrote in a letter from Reps. Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., who chairs the committee, and Jamie Raskin, D-Md., who heads the subcommittee looking into the matter.

The committee letter said it was giving the company until Friday to cooperate as one last "discretionary accommodation."
