Russia 'successfully tests' its unplugged internet
Russia has successfully tested a country-wide alternative to the global internet, its government has announced.
Details of what the test involved were vague but, according to the Ministry of Communications, ordinary users did not notice any changes.
The results will now be presented to President Putin.
Experts remain concerned about the trend for some countries to dismantle the internet.
"Sadly, the Russian direction of travel is just another step in the increasing breaking-up of the internet," said Prof Alan Woodward, a computer scientist at the University of Surrey.

Palm Beach Co. school board goes full fascist, orders cops to remove parents who prefer to stand
School board officials in Palm Beach County, Florida ordered the police to arrest and drag out a man for simply standing in the back of a room designated for unmasked individuals during a four-hour meeting over their draconian school mask mandate.
“School police have advised me that people in the unmasked room are standing and refusing to sit. I’m giving you one last chance, sit down in your seats, because those people standing will be removed from the meeting. Sit down in your seats,” school board chair Frank Barbieri commanded.
“Officers you can take anybody out of the meeting that’s refusing to sit in the seats, take them out of the meeting. Officers… The lady in the white and black top, remove her from the meeting, please. The man in the blue shirt, remove him from the meeting. The man in the black shirt, remove him from the meeting. The lady in the blue shirt, sit down, thank you,” Barbieri continued.
