Louisiana man loses arm, likely killed in alligator attack in Ida floodwaters, officials say

https://www.foxnews.com/us/louisiana-bitten-alligator-attack-ida

A 71-year-old Louisiana man was most likely killed during an alligator attack in which his arm was bitten off in the floodwaters of Hurricane Ida, according to media reports.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office said the body of the Slidell man has not been found. He was reportedly in the shed outside his home in the New Orleans suburb of Slidell, which had several feet of water, WWL-TV reported. His wife heard some noise and saw an alligator attacking him.

She pulled him onto the stairs and went to get help, WDSU-TV reported. When she came back, he was gone. Neighbors told WWL-TV that large alligators are common in the area. Some often feed them, they said.

The last country on Earth using leaded gasoline just finished its supply

https://qz.com/africa/2053227/leaded-gasoline-is-now-banned-everywhere-on-earth/

It took half a century to phase out leaded gas

Up to the 1970s, almost all gasoline contained lead, which was added to crude oil in the refining process in the belief that it made car engines perform more powerfully. But as evidence accumulated linking lead to health problems (and even to crime waves), governments began to turn against it. Japan outlawed leaded gas in 1980; most European countries and the US followed suit in the 1990s, and China and India phased it out by 2000.

The next goal, Akumu said, is to get more governments to enforce restrictions on sulfur levels in diesel fuel, which in Africa remain orders of magnitude higher than what is allowed in the US and EU and is a major contributor to asthma and other respiratory diseases.
