You're asking if I think AMD is honestly aiming to produce a quality and secure product?
I would say, yes. They got their start from re-engineering Intel CPUs to be more efficient as a sub-contractor for Intel.
Now, certain things the paper claims could be true, as it cites outsourced chip-set designs. But these are not necessarily AMD. Other chip manufacturers produce a chipset in compliance with a standard released by AMD. It would be like trying to blame AMD for a back-door in a Power Color GPU.
As I said in the prior bread, you have two options when you buy a computer - AMD or Intel. AMD commands a very small portion of market share for computers, overall. Government contracts automatically go to Intel (that management engine did what it was supposed to, there), and on the personal computing side, you pretty much have to know not to buy Intel to unearth the two AMD offerings in the store (unless you do some of your shopping online, but even then).
If anything, the fact that they are using AMD shows that they are concerned about their own tools being turned against them. Of course, it still probably runs windows ten. Maybe they opted for a linux build… but, when pictures can be robbed off of your phone, whatever distro you use is known and avenues of attack developed and ready before you even unbox the thing… so… kind of a moot gesture.
Best solution is to just not be evil in the first place. You know… don't be google.
