Anon is correct.Talk to any gun safety instructor.If you're introducing gun safety to a first timer, its best to have a professional. They will tell you everytime, "spouse distraction can hinder training & retention."

Once your wife or whoever is properly trained to use a firearm, you can keep encouraging them by going to the range together & keep up gun safety together. This is not rocket science. Its like saying, "I was a Marine, so I have the knowledge to train my son for battle." It doesn't work that way.
