With a public and decentralized ledger, like Bitcoin, for instance, anyone with the will and time to audit the ledger may do so, free of charge and any burdens beyond persistence.

You are not afforded the same convenience with USD. In fact, any time someone has tried, they got the same treatment that Catherine got.

USD uses a private and centralized ledger.
