JUPITER, Fla. —
The Palm Beach County Sherriff's Office is investigating a deadly train crash in Jupiter.
One person was found dead after being hit by a train along Beeline Highway and Indiantown Road, according to deputies.
Officials said they got a call from a CSX train operator around 10:15 p.m. on Monday that the train had hit the individual.
Deputies said upon further investigation, they discovered the person had been lying on the tracks when they were hit. When they arrived, the person was found on the tracks, unresponsive, and was pronounced dead by the medical examiner's office on the scene. They have not yet been identified.
Bags of palmetto berries were found near the victim, deputies said.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue and Palm Beach Gardens Fire Rescue responded and searched for other possible victims or survivors. Deputies said no one else was involved.

Investigators say that when they captured Marine veteran Bryan Riley outside the Lakeland home where he allegedly killed a couple, their 3-month-old son and the boy's grandmother, he told them, "You know why I did this."
But they say they don't and, in fact, may never know why Riley launched an attack against a family he had no known connection with, except that he may have been mentally ill. Riley's girlfriend told investigators thathe had been saying he could communicate directly with God.
"The big question that all of us has is, 'Why?'" local prosecutor Brian Haas said after Sunday's slayings. "We will not know today or maybe ever."
Riley,33, is being held without bond after Sunday's massacre on four counts of first-degree murder. During his first court appearance Monday, he said he intended to hire a lawyer but a public defender was appointed to represent him until he does.
Riley, who served as a sharpshooter in Iraq and Afghanistan, surrendered Sunday morning after a furious gun battle with authorities. After it was over, a deputy rushed into the home and rescued an 11-year-old girl, who was still conscious despite being shot seven times. She was in critical condition on Monday, the sheriff's office said.
According to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, Riley told interrogators that the victims "begged for their lives, and I killed them anyway."
"He is evil in the flesh," Judd said. "Just because you have mental health issues, does not mean you are not criminally liable."

NY congressional candidate found dead weeks after dropping out of race
A former New York congressional candidate died in an apparentsuicideon Tuesday – less than two weeks after he dropped his bid for US House, government officials and reports said.
Afghanistan war veteran Kyle Van De Water, 41, who ran last year for a US House seat that represents part of the mid-Hudson Valley region of New York, was found dead in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, MidHudsonNews.com reported.
Sources told the publication his death was under investigation as a “likely suicide.”
Van De Water had run as a Republican last year in an unsuccessful bid to unseat US Rep. Antonio Delgado and he had briefly thrown his hat in the ring for a second congressional run, reports said.
Delgado said in a statement that his “heart breaks for Kyle, and his beautiful family.
“We shared a number of conversations about family and country, and I walked away from each one knowing that he had a profound love for both,” Delgado said.
He didn’t mention a cause of death but shared the number of a Veterans Crisis Line.
“Kyle’s death is tragically felt not only an individual level, but also nationally, as far too many veterans across our country are going without the support and care that their service to our great land undoubtedly necessitates,” Delgado stated.

A lawyer for Nxivm co-founder Nancy Salzman says she was abused and fooled by sex slave-branding cult leader Keith Raniere — and doesn’t deserve to go to prison.
The plea for leniency comes one day before Salzman, 66, is slated to be sentenced in Brooklyn federal court after pleading guilty to racketeering conspiracy and cooperating with prosecutors.
“[Salzman] for the past twenty years has been fooled, controlled, humiliated, and ultimately led to engage in criminal conduct by an egotistical, self-important, sex fiend,” wrote defense attorney David Stern in a letter to Judge Nicholas Garaufis, which was made public on Tuesday.
He humiliated her and forced her to starve herself until she was stick thin — like he did to his other acolytes, her attorney wrote. The pair were initially lovers before Raniere, 60, ended the romance and turned his sadistic attention to her daughter.
In an earlier filing, prosecutors asked the judge to impose a prison term of over three years for Nxivm’s former president once known as Prefect, arguing that her unwavering support enabled Raniere’s most depraved crimes.
Salzman has said she didn’t know anything about Raniere’s secret sex cult within the organization called DOS, where women were branded with his initials like cattle and forced to have sex with him. Her daughter and co-defendant, Lauren Salzman, was a slave master in the twisted group.
The younger Salzman, who had a17-year relationship with the sick Svengali, testified against him at his sex-trafficking trial — and admitted to holding a woman captive in a locked room for two years at his request.
Nancy Salzman will be the fourth of Raniere’s five co-defendants to be sentenced in the case.
Raniere was slapped with 120 years in prison for his heinous crimes. Lauren Salzman got time-served in July in light of her cooperation.
TV actress Allison Mack, who was a slave master in the sex-cult and lured women into the group, got three years in prison. Seagram’s liquor heiress Clare Bronfman got six years and nine months behind bars.
Longtime Nxivm accountant Kathy Russell is awaiting sentencing.
