Roberts resigns House seat
Rep. Bret Roberts, R-Maricopa, is resigning his seat in the Arizona Legislature effective Sept. 30.
“My family is going to be relocating out of state… It’s just going to be a new chapter in our family’s lives,” Roberts said.
Roberts declined to say where he and his family would be relocating. He added there was nothing sensational in the reasoning behind his decision.
“I know it’s a little surprising that someone would leave a position like this,” he said. “It’s just a decision my wife and I came to over the past month or month and a half. We’re going to sell our property and move elsewhere. It wasn’t an easy decision to make, but I have other family that lives here in Arizona, and they agreed it was a positive thing to do.”
Roberts originally moved to Arizona in 1999 from his native Ohio. He left in 2003 but returned in 2007 and moved to Maricopa in 2009.
Roberts serves on the House Criminal Justice Reform, Education, Government & Elections, Military Affairs & Public Safety committees.
Prior to be elected to the Legislature, Roberts served a four-year term as constable of Maricopa/Stanfield Justice Court in Pinal County. His private sector career included positions as a detention officer and mortgage banker.
Roberts was instrumental in securing $35 million toward construction of SR347/Riggs Road overpass in the current state budget.
