Just getting back on fire a bit and catching up - saw the notable about the shuttle orbiter.

Let me clear the misconception here because

>1 The orbiter is not a jet

>2 Navigation in the outer atmospheric layer is achieved using the OMS (Orbital Maneuvering System)

 

I used to live in the Space Coast - FL, heard that thing coming back at 3am most of the time (triple sonic booms are fun yay) and even worked off Vectorspace Blvd, got to meet a few current and previous astronauts (Apollo17, last man to set foot on moon)

 

Willing to bet anyone saying that the orbiter is a jet is übertrolling just to get into a notable.

Pls remove that BS.

OMS works in near-gravity because of inertia.

Stand on a skateboard and throw a basketball away from you from you - you move in the opposite direction. The ball isn't pushing on the air, it's just physics.
