The Order of the Golden Fleece

Brooks Brothers clothing…

The history of this iconic symbol goes back to Philip the Good, a 15th century Duke whose knights were notably named–The Order of the Golden Fleece. Their symbol was a lamb suspended in a ribbon, which owes in part to the highly prized wool flocks that made Philip his fortune.

Fast forward to the mid-19th century when Henry S. Brooks saw the little sheep hanging from shops on Saville Row. The Golden Fleece symbol represented where fine woolens were sold. First adopted in 1850 when it was painted above our shop door in New York, this nod to British tradition has symbolized heritage, quality and legendary service ever since.
