The word 'Sabbath' comes from the Hebrew word meaning 'to stop temporarily'.

As opposed to 'atzor' which means 'to stop completely'.

Time marches on from day to day.

The Sabbath is a day of 'rest' because The Creator 'rested'.

On the seventh day The Creator 'Shabat' is clearly written right there in the text.

The current names for the days and months were given by the Romans, iirc.
