The Cold War must have been an amazing time to be a weapons manufacturer for the U.S. government. Like some kind of early Tony Stark (I guess that would be Howard Stark), if you could dream it, you could build it, and chances were very good the CIA would fund it. From funding LSD tests using prostitutes and their johns to a secret underground ice base in Greenland to trying to build an actual flying saucer, there was literally no end to what the CIA would try.

What they ended up actually building and then using was much less fun and much more terrifying. We only found out about it because Senator Frank Church decided to do a little investigating.

Among other things, he found a gun that caused heart attacks, a weapon that had been used against the U.S. political enemies and beyond.

Spurred by the publication of Seymour Hersh’s article in The New York Times in December 1974, the United States Congress decided to look into just what its internal and external intelligence agencies were doing in the name of the American people using their tax dollars. What they found was a trove of legal and illegal methods used by the CIA, NSA, FBI, and even the IRS. Among the abuses of power discovered by the Church Commission was the opening of domestic mail without a warrant and without the Postal Service’s knowledge, the widespread access intelligence had to domestic telecommunications providers and adding Americans to watch lists.

Even the Army was spying on American civilians.

The most shocking of the Church Commission’s findings was the targeted assassination operations the CIA used against foreign leaders. Allegedly, Fidel Castro wasn’t the only name on the CIA hit list. Congo’s Patrice Lumumba, Rafael Trujillo of the Dominican Republic, Vietnam’s Ngo Dinh Diem, and Gen. René Schneider of Chile were all targets for CIA-sanctioned killings.

Ousted FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe is shutting down his online campaign to raise money for a legal-defense fund, after taking in more than a half-million dollars in donations, his spokeswoman announced Monday.

Melissa Schwartz, McCabe’s spokeswoman, said McCabe’s GoFundMe site will stop accepting contributions as of 7 p.m. Monday. She said the money, which “more than tripled” the original goal, would soon be transferred to a more formal legal defense trust. As of 11:30 a.m., the fund had raised more than $538,000.

Rose McGowan calls out California governor at rival’s press conference, says his wife was one of Weinstein’s ‘treacherous’ allies

At a Sunday press conference, actress and activist Rose McGowan renewed her accusation that Gavin Newsom's wife tried to keep her Harvey Weinstein stories quiet, also blasting Democrats and Hollywood over their complicity.

McGowan was joined by Republican Larry Elder, who is running against Newsom in the current recall election. She endorsed the GOP candidate for governor and revealed she actually has a unique history with him, related to his time as a conservative talk radio host.

“I used to listen to Larry Elder after I'd drive home from the set,” the ‘Charmed’ actress said. “Sometimes I'd even pull over and use a fake name, usually Tracy, to call in.”

McGowan said while she doesn't agree with everything the Republican has to say, compared to Newsom, Elder is “the better candidate” and “better man.”

The purpose of a Second Amendment Sanctuary is simple: to ensure that no unconstitutional gun control laws will be enforced against those within the “sanctuary,” whether it’s a town, county, or a state. It’s not about going soft on criminals, but ensuring that responsible gun owners aren’t turned into criminals by enforcing laws that violate their right to keep and bear arms.

It’s not a difficult concept to grasp, but there are still some folks out there who view Second Amendment Sanctuaries as a solution in search of a problem, like Sheriff Britton Ferrell in Mississippi County, Missouri, who blames the state’s new Second Amendment Preservation Act for a recent shooting at a car show in his county.

That’s such a gross misreading of SAPA that I’m not sure if Sheriff Ferrell is simply confused about what the statute says or if he’s intentionally lying about the law. There’s nothing within the Second Amendment Preservation Act that is soft on criminals, nor does the law state that police can be fired, fined, suspended, or prosecuted for protecting communities. Instead, the Second Amendment Preservation Act makes clear that if a law enforcement officer “knowingly deprives” a citizen of their Second Amendment rights by enforcing unconstitutional gun control laws, they can be held accountable in a court of law.

Boston Suburb Attempts To Limit Gun Stores With New Zoning Proposal

It comes as no surprise the Second Amendment is under attack in a neighborhood in Boston, Massachusetts, one of the most anti-gun states in the country.

Members of the Select Board in Brookline, Massachusetts, are proposing zoning limits for gun stores, according to the Patch.

Under the new zoning proposal submitted by town board members Petra Bignami, Janice Kahn, Alexandra Metral, and Sharon Schoffman, gun stores would only be allowed to operate by special permit. It also states buffer zones will be around residential properties, private and public K-12 schools, and childcare facilities, which would block firearm businesses from operating within a certain distance.

The proposal came after the City of Newton, one town over, approved new zoning rules for gun stores in June that restricted them to three locations. This action was in response to a new gun store attempting to open.
