Elected the Grand Master of the Order of Malta: it is Italian Dalla Torre, a favorite of Pope Francis

Vatican City - Fra 'Giacomo Dalla Torre del Tempio di Sanguinetto was elected 80th Grand Master of the Sovereign Order of Malta. The election took place in the Magistral Villa, the institutional seat of the Order of Malta. A charge for life. Thus ended the crisis that had opened last year with the forced resignation of the predecessor, the English Matthew Festing, a passage desired by Pope Francis following an internal crisis and a kind of conspiracy of the building. The name of Dalla Torre was released in the triad and was the candidate most appreciated by the Holy See.

Pope Francis was informed of the votes by letter. Subsequently, the election was communicated to all the Grand Priories, the Under-Priorates and the National Associations and to their diplomatic representations in the world and to those of the 107 States with which the Order has diplomatic relations.

The newly elected will take an oath before the Special Delegate of the Pope Monsignor Angelo Becciu and the members of the Council of the State Department tomorrow morning in the church of Santa Maria in Aventino.

The Grand Master, stated in a note, reaffirmed his desire to continue the work for the reform of the Constitution started in 2017, to adapt it to the remarkable development that the Order has experienced in recent decades.
