My parents were vaccinated against small pox and tuberculosis. By the time I came by the diseases were no longer spreading and I didn't need to get the vax. Is what I base my statement on.

All they fear is being punished. Be it socially or financially.
They might not truly follow the mandates themselves in private, but if they want to keep their job and feed their children they'll have to make damn sure you don't break them.
Also you can't base these things on personal experience, I come in circles that still celebrate getting vaxxed and think it should be mandated.
