California once was run by conservatives and mostly centrist Democrats.
True paleo-liberal governors like Pat Brown greatly expanded the welfare state. But they also believed in pushing integration and building freeways, dams, aqueducts and power plants, while preventing forest fires, directing the mentally ill into state hospitals, and ensuring that the state enhanced the housing, timber, oil and gas, nuclear and agricultural industries.
So, why would anyone deliberately destroy that heritage?

Why allow California to have the highest aggregate basket of income, sales, property and capital gains taxes in the nation, the highest gas and power prices in the continental United States, and nearly the worst schools and infrastructure? Remember that the left wing of the Democratic Party became hyper-wealthy through globalization and the tech revolution. Coastal universities such as Caltech, Stanford, UC Berkeley, USC, and UCLA became global nexuses of millions who flocked to California to learn business, engineering, science, math and the professions.
University endowments were no longer measured in the hundreds of millions of dollars but in the billions.
Hollywood and professional sports now had a lucrative worldwide audience of billions.
The market capitalization of Silicon Valley was to be measured in the trillions of dollars, as the world bought iPhones, iPads and MacBooks to do Google searches, tweet and use Facebook. The result was the greatest concentration of wealth in such a small space in the history of civilization.
Within 40 years, California had created a new plutocracy of Eloi, whose wealth exempted them from all worries about the mundane problems of the distant and despised Morlock others.
The wealthier the long thin line from San Diego to Berkeley grew, the more the overseers felt they were nearing Utopia, at least in their own lives.
The new Democratic Party liked to redistribute money for the poor and so obeyed the orders from the rich. But they ignored old-fashioned infrastructure that once had allowed the middle class to drive quickly and safely, ensured them water during droughts, curbed their forest fires, and allowed their children to leave school competitively educated.
The current California recall election is a choice between Gavin Newsom, who embodies the woke, old-boy privilege of the Bay Area, and an alternative direction.

Reaction, not prevention, was the new mantra. Govs. Jerry Brown and Gavin Newsom failed to thin out forests, build water storage and allow affordable housing.
When those problems exploded, they reacted by citing climate change or some other bogeyman as the culprit rather than government dereliction. They preferred utopian high-speed rail solutions to pragmatic problem-solving. And they ensured that none of their crackpot ideas ever affected themselves.
Why worry about affordable housing and electricity for the masses when all the right people had the means to live in the right ZIP codes without much worry about turning on the air conditioning or heat, since there were rarely any scorching days or frigid nights in coastal paradise?
Why worry about immigration when labor became even cheaper?
Why worry that California public schools had sunk near the bottom of state ranks, when there were more prestigious prep schools than ever on the coast?
And why worry about producing lumber for houses, irrigated crops for food, or oil for gasoline, when the right Californians would always have the money to import their hardwood floors, arugula and fuel from grubby others far away who would make or grow what was needed?
Yet ideas eventually have consequences. Soon, even the left-wing paradise on the coast would be infected by the anarchy the rich had created for less important people elsewhere.
The homeless did not just camp on the streets of Fresno, but in Venice Beach and on Market Street in San Francisco.
Fires began to smoke out not just the brush of the inland foothills, but near-saintly Lake Tahoe, home to the right skiers and the chosen shore owners.
Thieves even smashed the windows of Bay Area BMWs and Volvos.
The current California recall election is a choice between Gavin Newsom, who embodies the woke, old-boy privilege of the Bay Area, and an alternative direction. Newsom is the epitome of the virtue-signaling elite who patronize the poor and drive out the despised middle class.
Gubernatorial candidate Larry Elder did not give us the current California. Indeed, he spent most of his life warning us where Jerry Brown, Gavin Newsom and the rarified society of the coastal corridor was taking the state.
A careening California is heading for a colossal train wreck. Voters will have to pick between the incompetent engineer snoring at the wheel or the private passenger who rushes into cab to get the engine back on track.

How it all went so wrong for Gavin Newsom

(CNN)Back in April, near the start of the coronavirus pandemic in the United States, I wrote a piece with this headline: "Gavin Newsom may be the most underrated governor in the country right now."
Newsom had acted quickly to issue a stay-at-home order for his state he was the first governor in the country to do so and, despite the Golden State's massive size and population, it appeared to be weathering the Covid-19 crisis relatively well.
His handling of the coronavirus was already leading some people to speculate that it might well be the crown jewel in his resume when he eventually (and inevitably) ran for president.
Eight months later, Newsom's political fortunes have dipped drastically – badly damaged by his decision last month to attend a birthday party for a friend (and lobbyist) at the famed French Laundry restaurant that, at best, skirted the very coronavirus practices he had recommended all Californians follow.
"I made a bad mistake," Newsom told reporters shortly after the incident came to light. "I should have stood up and … drove back to my house. The spirit of what I'm preaching all the time was contradicted. I need to preach and practice, not just preach."
Yup!
Newsom hasn't been able to put the episode behind him. And despite the early success in California of mitigating the virus, the state's situation has worsened in recent weeks – forcing Newsom to reinstitute stay-at-home orders for much of the population.
And now comes news that an effort to recall Newsom next year is picking up speed – and supporters. This, from The Associated Press, is worrisome for Newsom:
"Recall organizers say they have collected more than half the nearly 1.5 million petition signatures needed to place the recall on the ballot, and they have until mid-March to hit the required threshold."
(Almost two decades ago, California Democratic Gov. Gray Davis was recalled by the state's voters, creating an opening that Arnold Schwarzenegger stepped into.)
Add this to all of that: Newsom must appoint someone to Kamala Harris' Senate seat and pick a replacement for California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, who is President-elect Joe Biden's choice to head the Department of Health and Human Services.
Newsom is coming under intense pressure from virtually every Democratic interest group to pick their preferred candidate – and has said publicly he is dreading the decision.
So, yeah. A lot going on. And none of it good.

I had to check for myself so I took my MAIL-IN-BALLOT; I just received today, and shined a light thru the backside of the ballot on the CALIBRATION markers. HOLY CRAP! The front page and back page markers don’t line up with each other. This would place my ballot, IF I USED IT, in the adjudication counting room. That would allow some STRANGER to decide whom THEY THINK I wanted to vote for and change my vote to whomever they selected. If the CALABRATION markers are off so is the scanner read of my vote on that ballot!!!!!!!!! I also checked my wife’s and the same thing, markers are way off!!!!
I’ve also included images of my 2020 Mail in Ballot calibration marks. Look they are perfectly aligned!!!

GESTAPO: Los Angeles Police Ordered to Collect Social Media User Names of Everyone They Stop, Even Those Not Accused of a Crime
This isn’t America, and the Gestapo of Democrats running America is officially out of control. It’s been out of control, but now we’re seeing 1930’s Germany tactics for the first time from one of the largest police departments in the world.
The Los Angeles Police Department officers say they’ve now been instructed by their Chief of Police to collect the social media user names of everyone they stop, including people who are not arrested, or accused of a crime.
The information is needed for investigations, arrests and prosecutions, according to a July 2020 internal memo from Police Chief Michel Moore.
The Guardian of London cited the field-interview cards officers must fill out when questioning people. Along with the usual information, such as name and date of birth, there are places to record Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other social-media accounts.
Officers have been warned that supervisors will review the cards to make sure they are completed and accurate.
The Brennan Center for Justice obtained the documents because of the civil-liberties concerns they raise. The Brennan Center is a nonprofit law and public policy institute generally considered liberal or progressive in its policy positions and views, and named after Supreme Court Justice William J. Brennan.
Rachel Levinson-Waldman, a deputy director at the Brennan Center, warned of “real dangers about police having all of this social media identifying information at their fingertips.”
The group examined 40 other police agencies around the nation and found no similar collection of social-media account information.
The Guardian reported a separate 2015 social media guide created by LAPD’s Major Crimes Division allows to use “fictitious online persona” for “investigative activity,” with little oversight.

Military ‘On Alert’ As U.S. Carrier Launches F-35 Stealth Jets in South China Sea For First Time Ever
For the first time ever a U.S. Navy Aircraft carrier with F-35 stealth fighters on board has entered the South China Sea this week.
The Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group entered the contested waters near China days ago, and subsequently the Navy has released a photo of an F-35 launching from the Carl Vinson.
This move comes as the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Benfold is gaining the most attention from Beijing after it sailed near Mischief Reef in the Spratly Island, which is an area long claimed by China.
Business Insider details of the new stealth fighter carrier deployment,
“The F-35A is a variant built for the Air Force. The F-35B, mainly used by the Marine Corps, is designed to fight from amphibious assault ships. And the C variant is designed to operate aboard US Navy carriers. It can carry more fuel and weaponry and is built for catapult launches and fly-in arrestments.
A subsequent report in Chinese state mouthpieces Global Times indicated that the presence of both Benfold and stealth jet carrying Vinson carrier has put the PLA military on ‘High Alert’.
Global Times wrote: “As the first carrier to get the F-35C, the USS Carl Vinson went straight to the South China Sea with the aim of deterring China, but China has already developed a number of anti-stealth radar systems, so the F-35C can be detected, Fu said, noting that China also has countermeasures against the vertical take-off and landing-capable CMV-22Bs, which could land on islands and reefs in the region.”
The PLA Southern Theater Command meanwhile charged the US Navy with “trespassing” and “violating” Chinese sovereign waters. It particular it claimed to have “warned off” the USS Benfold destroyer from near the reefs during the Wednesday incident. The US responded that the navy continues upholding lawful freedom of navigation operations.
State media also called the carrier’s arrival with the stealth jets on board a “provocative deployment” which China is able to counter if needed.

We are no longer respected after the pathetic and incompetent withdrawal from Afghanistan. It will be a long time before we gain our reputation back. Just nine months ago, the United States was viewed as being strong, and now we are being viewed as weak and stupid. The Taliban has totally retaken Afghanistan—a far more potent position than they had 20 years ago, after we spent trillions of dollars, with hundreds of thousands of lives lost (on both sides). This loss emboldens not only foreign terrorists, but also Antifa and BLM. So interesting to watch former President Bush, who is responsible for getting us into the quicksand of the Middle East (and then not winning!), as he lectures us that terrorists on the “right” are a bigger problem than those from foreign countries that hate America, and that are pouring into our Country right now. If that is so, why was he willing to spend trillions of dollars and be responsible for the death of perhaps millions of people? He shouldn’t be lecturing us about anything. The World Trade Center came down during his watch. Bush led a failed and uninspiring presidency. He shouldn’t be lecturing anybody!
