Joe Biden’s State Department moved to cancel a critical State Department program aimed at providing swift and safe evacuations of Americans out of crisis zones just months prior to the fall of Kabul, The National Pulse can exclusively reveal.

The “Contingency and Crisis Response Bureau” – which was designed to handle medical, diplomatic, and logistical support concerning Americans overseas was paused by Antony Blinken’s State Department earlier this year. Notification was officially signed just months before the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan.

“SENSITIVE BUT UNCLASSIFIED,” an official State Department document from the Biden State Department begins, before outlining the following move the quash the Trump-era funding for the new bureau.

The document is from the desk of Deputy Secretary of State Brian P. McKeon, confirmed in March by the United States Senate.

The document is dated June 11, 2021, though The National Pulse understands the decision to pause the program may have come as early as February, both undermining the original Trump-era date for the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, and certainly giving the Taliban time to threaten American assets and lives on the run up to Joe Biden’s September 11th date of withdrawal.

The subject line reads: “(SBU) Contingency and Crisis Response Bureau,” and the body of the document recommends:

“That you direct the discontinuation of the establishment, and termination of, the Contingency and Crisis Response Bureau (CCR), and direct a further review of certain associated Department requirements and capabilities.”

It goes on:

“That you direct the discontinuation of the establishment, and termination of, CCR, consistent with the applicable legal requirements, necessary stakeholder engagement, and any applicable changes to the Foreign Affairs Manual and other requirements.”

The document reveals the recommendations were approved on June 11th 2021.

Federal Judge blocks New York state vaccine mandate for health care workers

On Tuesday, a Clinton-appointed federal judge granted an emergency injunction preventing the state of New York from enforcing a Covid-19 vaccine mandate for its healthcare workers.

Former Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the healthcare worker vaccine mandate on August 16 prompting more than a dozen healthcare professionals to request a court enjoinder. The mandate requires hospitals staff and employees of long-term care facilities to be vaccinated in order to remain employed.

The suit argues that medical professionals, including doctors, nurses, and medical technicians face losing their careers and livelihoods if they refuse to receive a vaccine that contradicts their religious beliefs. According to the suit, the religious beliefs of the 17 medical professionals compel them to "refuse vaccination with the available Covid-19 vaccines, all of which employ aborted fetus cell lines in their testing, development, or production."

The legal argument takes its shape under the umbrella of Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

Christopher Ferrara, an attorney with the Thomas More Society said that New York is attempting to "slam shut an escape hatch from an unconstitutional vaccine mandate … They are doing this while knowing that many people have sincere religious objections to vaccines that were tested, developed, or produced with cell lines derived from aborted children."

Judge David Hurd of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York granted the temporary restraining order on the morning of September 14. "The vaccine mandate is suspended," reads his order, and the state Department of Health is "barred from taking any action, disciplinary or otherwise, against the licensure, certification, residency, admitting privileges or other professional status or qualification of any of the plaintiffs on account of their seeking or having obtained a religious exemption from mandatory Covid-19 vaccination."

Senator demands to know 'who is in charge' at White House after Biden cut off mid-sentence

Republican senator calls Biden White House 'a puppeteer act'

Sen. James Risch, R-Idaho, claimed Tuesday that someone in the White House other than President Biden is "calling the shots."

Risch made the comments during Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s hearing before the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations about the U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan, which the senator called a "dismal failure."

"One of the things we need to get to the bottom to is who is responsible for this? Who made the decisions?" Risch said. "[Biden] can’t even speak without someone in the White House censoring it or signing off on it."

The senator cited an instance Monday in which the White House abruptly ended the feed of Biden's briefing on wildfires with federal and state officials, cutting him off mid-sentence during a question to George Geissler of the National Association of State Foresters.

Risch said at Tuesday's hearing, "This is a puppeteer act, if you would, and we need to know who’s in charge and who is making the decisions."

"There is not enough lipstick in the world to put on this pig to make it look any differently than what it actually is," he said later in the hearing, referring to the Afghanistan withdrawal. "The American people want to know who is responsible for this?"

"Ultimately, the president makes the decisions," Blinken responded. "As in every case, ultimately decisions that can only be decided by the president are decided by the president."

Risch again cited Monday’s incident in which Biden was cut off mid-sentence.

"Somebody in the White House has authority to press the button and stop the president, cut off the president’s speaking ability and sound. Who is that person?" the senator asked.

"There is no such person," Blinken answered, adding that Biden "speaks very clearly and very deliberately for himself. No one else does."

Questions have abounded over who Biden’s handlers are after multiple instances in which he implied he doesn’t set the rules for when and where he’s allowed to take questions from the press.

Israel Could Approve Vaccines for Ages 5-11 by November

If the move is approved, one of the most difficult consequences of the COVID pandemic – school closures – would no longer be an obstacle, bringing relief to children, parents and the economy

If the Pfizer vaccine against COVID-19 is approved for children aged five to 11, as expected, Israel could find itself launching a new vaccination campaign for elementary school children as early as November.

That would also mean the education system would have to manage for only a relatively short period under the “green classroom” plan whose pilot is supposed to start right after the holidays.

According to this optimistic scenario, one of the most difficult consequences of the pandemic – the closure of schools and disruption of studies – would be neutralized within three to four months, bringing untold relief to children, parents and the economy. Currently some 150,000 students are in quarantine, among them 41,000 active cases, even though there have been very few days of school.

Getting to this stage requires Pfizer to submit a request to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to approve the vaccine for children age five to 11, and waiting for the FDA to issue its approval. Only then would Israeli officials begin discussing whether to recommend that the vaccine be administered to children here, although it is assumed this will be approved if there are no questions regarding the safety or effectiveness of the vaccine for this age group. It is the Health Ministry that will make the final decision on whether and under what conditions to vaccinate.

There are already a few children in this age group who have been vaccinated against COVID-19, because the Health Ministry approved the vaccine for children with underlying conditions that put them at high risk for serious illness or even death if they got infected. The ministry issued such permits to 124 children of whom 88 have actually been vaccinated; 47 received one dose, while 41 got two doses.

According to the ministry, there have been no reports of reactions or side effects that differ markedly from those suffered by the general population; this, even though the ministry had warned the HMOs to keep a close watch on these children after their shots.

Reuters reported that a senior health official in the United States believes that children five to 11 will be able to get the Pfizer vaccine by the end of October. It quoted two sources familiar with the issue who said Pfizer is expected to submit to the FDA the results from the clinical trials it has conducted on this age group and request emergency approval before the end of September, with approval to come approximately three weeks after the request is made.

Illegal gambling: Operation SOGA VIII leads to 1,400 arrests

LYON, France – While most of us were watching the UEFA European Football Championship as simple fans, hundreds of specialized officers across 28 countries were targeting organized crime groups looking to earn millions from illegal gambling and related money laundering activities.

INTERPOL’s Operation SOGA VIII (short for soccer gambling) led to thousands of raids and the arrest of some 1,400 suspects across Asia and Europe. Authorities seized USD 7.9 million in cash, as well as computers and mobile phones connected to nearly USD 465 million in bets.

Illegal gambling generates significant profits for organized crime networks and is often closely associated with other crimes such as money laundering and corruption. The operation was coordinated by INTERPOL’s Financial Crimes and Anti-Corruption units, with support from the Asia-Pacific Expert Group on Organized Crime (APEG) and the INTERPOL Match Fixing Task Force (IMFTF).

Hong Kong Police detained more than 800 suspects, including the alleged kingpin of a triad-controlled bookmaking syndicate, seizing nearly USD 2.7 million in cash and records detailing hundreds of millions in bets, making it one of their most successful operations against illegal gambling ever.

“Our collective experience helped us anticipate links between betting syndicates and their illegal counterparts during Euro 2020. This, ultimately, led us to organized crime groups acting on a global scale and generating huge profits,” said Wong Wai, Head of Hong Kong Police’s Organized Crime and Triad Bureau and Chairman of INTERPOL’s Asia-Pacific Expert Group on Organized Crime.

SOGA VIII saw its strongest participation by European countries, as well as a range of law enforcement agencies, in order to target illegal gambling from various angles.

“Italian authorities carried out a nationwide operation during Euro 2020, resulting in the inspection of 280 betting shops and EUR 1.3 million in sanctions for illegal betting operations. Such international operations are key to the collective fight against illegal betting, but also in developing national and international cooperation frameworks,” said Roberto Ribaudo, Director of Economic and Financial Crime Division at INTERPOL’s National Central Bureau in Rome.

This year’s operation showed a clear shift to online activities, with criminals taking full advantage of financial technology, including the use of international gambling websites and online bank accounts.

Additionally, officers saw increased activity in online gaming platforms, forums and social media, where individuals would offer gambling tips or even payment to those willing to open online bank accounts for money transfers.

The operation was conducted under the aegis of Project Anti Cyber-Enabled Financial Crimes (CEFIN) funded by the Republic of Korea.

To date, INTERPOL’s eight SOGA operations have resulted in more than 19,100 arrests, seizures of more than USD 63 million in cash and the closure of more than 4,000 illegal gambling dens which handled more than USD 7.3 billion worth of bets.

On September 7, CBP officers assigned to the Bridge of the Americas Border Crossing, selected a vehicle driven by a 30-year-old male U.S. citizen for further inspection. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of almost 28 pounds of cocaine hidden in the cargo area of the vehicle. The following day, CBP officers encountered an 18-year-old, U.S. citizen, attempting to smuggle over six pounds of methamphetamine and seven pounds of fentanyl concealed inside of his vehicle.

On September 10, CBP officers assigned to the Paso Del Norte Border Crossing intercepted over 57 pounds of methamphetamine from a 24-year-old male U.S. citizen. Later that day, CBP Officers assigned to the Bridge of the Americas Border Crossing, intercepted over 55 pounds of cocaine from a 36-year-old female, United States citizen.

On September 11 at the Bridge of the Americas, CBP officers were conducting inspections with a drug sniffing dog, when the dog alerted to a vehicle driven by a 48-year-old male, Lawful Permanent Resident of the United States. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of over 100 pounds of marijuana and nine pounds of methamphetamine.

In addition to the narcotics interceptions, officers from across the El Paso ports of entry arrested 25 fugitives from justice. The arrests made were for crimes such as escape, probation violation, tampering with government records, larceny, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, dangerous drugs, and kidnapping.

All subjects were arrested by CBP officers and turned over to local and federal authorities to face charges.

Los Angeles-area man pleads guilty to producing thousands of sexually explicit images and videos involving children following HSI investigation

LOS ANGELES — A South Bay man pleaded guilty today to federal criminal charges for producing thousands of sexually explicit images and videos of nearly three dozen children and developing a relationship with at least one boy in the Philippines who performed sex acts online in exchange for money.

As the result of a probe by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Los Angeles, Billy Edward Frederick, 51, of Redondo Beach, pleaded guilty to a two-count information charging him with production of child pornography for transportation into the United States and enticement of a minor to engage in criminal sexual activity.

According to his plea agreement, Frederick stored various images and videos depicting child pornography in his Google accounts, at least some of which he obtained from video calls on Google Hangout.

One video from July 2020, in which a boy who appears to be between 11 and 14 years old, engages in sexual activity while Frederick records the video call. In messages sent relating to the video call, the victim calls Frederick “MASTER.” In chats between Frederick and the victim prior to the video call, the boy asks to borrow money to purchase underwear. Immediately after the call, Frederick chatted online with the boy, who asked for money to be sent to his brother.

Frederick admitted to producing more than 5,000 images and videos of child pornography involving at least 35 different children by requesting these children engage in specified sexually explicit activity in exchange for money. Some of the videos and images depicted minor victims under the age of 12 being used for sexual acts.

A sentencing hearing has scheduled for March 14, 2022, at which time Frederick will face a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in federal prison and a statutory maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

America Has Given Millions for ‘Research’ At Chinese Communist-Run Facilities Since COVID Outbreak.

Over half the grant cash came from Fauci.

The U.S. National Institutes of Health has continued to funnel millions of U.S. taxpayer dollars to fund scientific research in conjunction with Communist China since the beginning of the COVID pandemic, including to military-controlled organizations, The National Pulse can reveal.

Over half of the grants sent since early 2020 came from Anthony Fauci’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) database reveals that 13 grants have been sent to the country which has stonewalled investigations into the origins of COVID-19. China has also undertaken a global propaganda campaign to blame the U.S. for the virus, while America continues to send cash.

China Medical University, Fudan University, Peking University, and China’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention are among the organizations, all of which are controlled by the Chinese Communist Party, funded by various NIH agencies.

Of the 13 grants to China, seven are from Fauci’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

Southern Medical University – which is controlled by the regime’s People’s Liberation Army and has close ties to the Wuhan Institute of Virology – also received two additional grants worth nearly $300,000 from Fauci.

In total over $4 million has been sent to studies counting their principal investigators as working in China for state-run scientific bodies in 2020 and 2021. Seven of the studies are still active at the time of publication.

Around 422,000 in Texas Without Power From Storm Nicholas

More than 422,000 homes and businesses in Texas were still without power on Tuesday afternoon as utilities started restoring service faster than Tropical Storm Nicholas caused new outages, according to local utilities.

That is down from 529,000 customers out in Texas at the peak on Tuesday morning.

The center of Nicholas was located about 10 miles southeast of Houston and could still cause life-threatening flash floods across the Deep South during the next couple of days, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center.

Texas energy company CenterPoint Energy Inc, the company with the most outages so far, had about 365,000 customers without power in the Houston area Tuesday afternoon, down from a peak of around 454,000 earlier in the day.

Norm Macdonald, ‘SNL’ star, dead at 61

Norm Macdonald, the deadpan standup comic and beloved “Saturday Night Live” star from 1993 to 1998, has died after a private nine-year battle with cancer. He was 61.

The one-time Weekend Update anchor’s passing was confirmed to Deadline by his management team at Brillstein Entertainment.

The Quebec City native’s friend Lori Jo Hoekstra, who was with Macdonald when died, said the performer had been fighting caner for nearly a decade but was determined to keep his struggle away from family, friends and fans.

“He was most proud of his comedy,” Hoekstra, who was also his longtime producing partner, said. “He never wanted the diagnosis to affect the way the audience or any of his loved ones saw him. Norm was a pure comic. He once wrote that ‘a joke should catch someone by surprise, it should never pander.’ He certainly never pandered. Norm will be missed terribly.”

When he published his “memoir” in 2015, he revealed what percentage of it was true in his signature deadpan style: “Oh, zero,” he told The Post. “I wanted to write a novel, but they wouldn’t let me. But there are facts in the book that are true, [like] ‘a river is made of water.’ “

Macdonald, who never graduated from high school, told The Post “the scariest [part about writing a book] is I have no education and so I really feel like to be a good writer, you need education.”

He admitted at the time, “I would really like to go to school. I never got the chance. I’ve never worked so hard. It was very hard for me to keep a whole book in my head. I could keep a sketch in my head or even a movie … but a book. It’s so hard to keep that whole thing at once in your head.”

Macdonald launched his show business career in the comedy clubs of his native Canada, where he perfected his signature laconic style, and went on to compete on the early reality TV competition series “Star Search “in 1990. He was in the infamous writer’s room for fellow standup Roseanne Barr’s hit sitcom “Roseanne” during 1992-93 season — before scoring his coveted gig on Lorne Michael’s iconic NBC sketch comedy series.

Macdonald was known for his “SNL” impressions of Burt Reynolds, David Letterman, Larry King, Quentin Tarantino and many more during his five-year run on the show.

“”I would love to stay at SNL forever — but you can’t stay in the same place,” he told TV Guide in 1997. “People think you’re a loser.”

After exiting “SNL” — and being replaced as Weekend Update anchor by Colin Quinn — in 1998, Macdonald starred in his own sitcom, “The Norm Show.” He starred as social worker Norm Henderson, a former NHL player who was banned for from the sport life thanks to gambling and tax evasion. The show ran for three seasons from 1999 to 2001.

He later hosted a one-season talk show — with the appropriately dry title “Norm Macdonald Has a Show” — on Netflix in 2018. He told The Post at the time: “I’m an old man. I’m just an old chunk of coal. I don’t even know how to use my phone.”

His sarcastic style — and he was not opposed to using himself as a punchline.

“I was in my peak physical condition when I was about like, uh — one,” he once quipped. “Oh God, I looked good, young and fresh! You wouldn’t know me now if you’d seen me when I was one, you know? I even looked good for my age. People would come up to me and go, ‘what are you, zero?’ And I’d go, “no, I’m one over here!”

CONFIRMED: Four Chinese Warships Spotted Along Coast Of Alaska’s Aleutian Islands – Coast Guard

Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) warships traveled within 46 miles of Alaska’s Aleutian Islands last month, according to a statement from the U.S. Coast Guard. Coast Guard ships tailed and observed four Chinese naval vessels in total. The Chinese ships were were operating within the U.S. exclusive economic zone.

According to the Coast Guard, the contingent of Chinese warships included a guided missile cruiser, a guided missile destroyer, a general intelligence vessel, and an auxiliary vessel. “The Chinese vessels conducted military and surveillance operations during their deployment to the Bering Sea and North Pacific Ocean,” the statement read. The Coast Guard added that while the ships did enter the U.S. economic zone, they obeyed international law and did not directly enter U.S. territorial waters.

China’s most famous defector to America warned US intelligence agencies a coronavirus was spreading in Wuhan in November 2019 – six weeks before China admitted there was an outbreak.

Wei Jingsheng, the father of China’s democracy movement, reveals in a new book, “What Really Happened in Wuhan,” that he first heard of a mysterious new virus at the time of the World Military Games in Wuhan in October 2019.

Highly alarmed, the former Chinese Communist Party insider, whose defection to the United States in 1997 made global news, alerted intelligence agencies, a US politician with links to the president and Chinese human rights activist Dimon Liu.

Asked if he had any sense the intelligence agencies were taking seriously his intelligence about a new virus in Wuhan, 70-year-old Wei said: “I felt they were not as heavily concerned as I was so I tried my best to provide more detailed information. They may not believe there is (a) government of a country that would do something like that (cover up a virus). So I kept repeating myself in an effort to try to persuade them.”

Wei said he was “very ­worried because … whichever way the Communist regime released this virus, I felt that the West is not prepared.”

It was not until Dec. 31 that China involuntarily alerted the World Health Organization there was an outbreak in Wuhan. Beijing denied COVID-19 was contagious until January 20, 2020, when it admitted there was evidence of human-to-human transmission.

Wei, who spent 18 years in Chinese prisons for objecting to the Communist regime, is highly respected on both sides of politics and has forged relationships with former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Wei said he found out about the virus from high-level contacts in Beijing.

“I talked to Dimon and some other American politicians in the House of the danger of this situation,” he said. “There were officials from the White House at that time as well. In November 2019.”

Wei would not reveal which politician he told. “I’m not sure if this politician wants me to talk about him right here,” he said. “But I want to say he is a high enough politician, high enough to be able to reach to the president of the United States.”

David Asher, the State Department official who spearheaded a task force into the origins of COVID-19, said the opportunity presented by Wei’s warning was like “stopping 9/11 before it happened.” Asher said the US government had other crucial pieces of early-warning evidence in late 2019 but it failed to connect the dots. He said the US government first had intelligence about Wuhan Institute of Virology workers falling sick with COVID-like symptoms in late 2019 – a year before he discovered it during his investigation into the origins of the virus for the State Department. By then, 1.7 million people worldwide had died from COVID-19.

Asher said he was shocked when he found out “we actually could have had foreknowledge” of the coronavirus.

“We could have known in November of 2019, that there was a disaster occurring inside Wuhan — inside their most important biological facilities related to coronavirus research,” he said.

“It was something absolutely tragic, traumatic and dramatic that was occurring and we could have reacted to it. The whole world could have been different. It would have been like stopping 9/11 before it happened.”

Chinese authorities were acting to suppress news of the Wuhan outbreak, purging the internet of social media posts and news stories and “disappearing” dissidents and whistleblowers who attempted to sound a warning. Social media reports about a new coronavirus did not emerge until late December 2019 and it was not until the end of January 2020 that the US, Australia and New Zealand closed borders to travelers from China.

Liu reveals in “What Really Happened in Wuhan” that Wei told her about the virus on Nov. 22, 2019, at a dinner where her husband, former CIA agent Robert Suettinger, was also present.

“I couldn’t quite believe what he was saying,” Liu said. “At that time, I had thought that the coronavirus could not be worse than SARS. And SARS, as we knew from experience, was not that contagious and it could be contained. I thought at the time that was the case. Okay, there was an outbreak, but the authorities and the advance of medical sciences would be able to contain the spread of it.”

Sheriff Identifies 4 People Found Dead In Wisconsin Cornfield

MENOMONIE, Wis. – Officials in Dunn County, Wisconsin have identified four people found dead Sunday in a remote corn field. All of the victims are from Minnesota.

The victims are as follows:

Nitosha Lee Flug-Presley, female, 30 years old of Stillwater, MN

Matthew Isiah Pettus, male, 26 years old of Saint Paul, MN

Loyace Foreman III, male, 35 years old of Saint Paul, MN

Jasmine Christine Sturm, female, 30 years old of Saint Paul, MN

Autopsies were performed on all four victims on Monday by Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office and the preliminary examination shows that all four victims died from gunshot wounds.

“The Dunn County Sheriff’s Office is working hard on a thorough investigation with many other agencies to bring a swift end to this investigation to insure justice is served for these four victims as soon as possible,” the Sheriff’s office said in a statement.

“Our hearts go out to the family and friends of these victims. I wish we could release more details of our investigation but we have to balance the public’s desire to know the details with running the risk of harming our investigation and losing evidence for building a good homicide case”, said Sheriff Kevin Bygd.

Report: 14 Israelis infected with COVID despite 3rd vaccine dose

9 days after Israel kicked off campaign for third vaccine dose, Health Ministry statistics reveal 2 people hospitalized despite booster shot

More than a dozen Israelis who have been vaccinated three times against SARS-CoV-2 have been diagnosed with the virus in spite of the vaccines, according to a new report Sunday evening.

According to data from Israel’s Health Ministry which was published in a report by Channel 12 Sunday evening, fourteen people who have received a third dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID vaccine were diagnosed with the coronavirus at least seven days after receiving the third dose.

Israel officially kicked off its mass vaccination campaign for the third dose on July 30th, and has vaccinated some 422,000 people with the third dose thus far. The third dose is available to members of high-risk groups, including the elderly.

Of the 14 recipients of the third dose who tested positive for the virus at least seven days after receiving the booster shot, eleven are over the age of 60, with the remaining three being younger people who received the shot because they suffer from compromised immune systems.

Two of the 14 people who were diagnosed with COVID at least a week after receiving the booster shot have been hospitalized as a result of their COVID infections. Sunday’s report did not specify whether the two are in serious condition.

Earlier on Sunday, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett called on Israeli Arabs to get vaccinated against COVID, saying the vaccine is a crucial part of the battle against the Delta Variant.

“This epidemic of the Delta variant is flooding the whole world and bringing with it high rates of contagion and increased mortality rates in many countries. The Delta variant is also spreading through Israel, and those most affected are older people – your parents and your grandparents. Therefore, Israel has obtained additional vaccine doses in order to provide our citizens with a third vaccine dose, so that we can protect all those over the age of 60.”

Bennett said that vaccination rates among the Arab sector are “too low.”

D.C. Attorney General Widens Scope Of Lawsuit Against Amazon

Democratic Washington D.C. Attorney General Karl A. Racine is broadening the scope of a lawsuit against Amazon to include allegations of bogging down wholesalers who provide goods to vendors that compete with Amazon.

Racine had previously sued Amazon in May, alleging the company "fixes prices online by preventing the third-party sellers that use its marketplace from offering their products at lower prices elsewhere", according to the Washington Post.

In an amended complaint, Racine charges that Amazon illegally shuts down competition by requiring that wholesalers guarantee the company will make a minimum profit when it buys and resells their goods.

These deals enable Amazon to lower its prices to beat out competitors by making wholesalers compensate for lost profits. This then prompts the same wholesalers to raise prices when selling to competition, the lawsuit alleges.

Racine's allegations are the first in the United States of their kind against Amazon.

The requirements “insulate Amazon’s online marketplace from competition, further entrench its monopoly, and result in higher prices and less choice for consumers,” the complaint says. “We knew Amazon’s anti-competitive behavior was far-reaching — and through our investigation, we’re realizing just how far it goes,” Racine told WaPo.

A spokesperson for Amazon commented: "The DC Attorney General has it exactly backwards – sellers set their own prices for the products they offer in our store. The relief the AG seeks would force Amazon to feature higher prices to customers, oddly going against core objectives of antitrust law.”

Stacy Mitchell, co-director of the anti-monopoly group Institute for Local Self-Reliance, commented: "So often Amazon's market power is sort of seen in this one dimensional way, and in fact Amazon plays these multiple role roles in the market."

Recall, back in May, Racine filed his first suit against Amazon, alleging that the company's practices have unfairly raised prices for consumers while suppressing competition and innovation. The lawsuit is seeking to end Amazon's use of allegedly illegal price agreements to edge out competitors, recover damages and impose penalties. The lawsuit alleged that Amazon's conduct made it virtually impossible for third-party sellers to offer goods at a better price than Amazon.

The suit initially alleged that Amazon illegally maintained monopoly power by using contract provisions to prevent third-party sellers on its platform from offering their products for lower prices on other platforms. The attorney general’s office claimed the contracts create a “an artificially high price floor across the online retail marketplace,” according to a press release. The AG claimed these agreements ultimately harm both consumers and third-party sellers by reducing competition, innovation and choice.

Until 2019, Amazon included a clause in its third-party seller agreement that they couldn't offer goods on Amazon at a higher price than they were offered on other third-party platforms. Amazon eventually removed that provision amid growing anti-trust scrutiny.
