In the context of the passage a day is 24 hours. Not exactly debatable as a dead corpse has a limited shelf life once dead.
The witnesses have the power to cause a 'plague' of 'blood' on 'the waters'. Waters turning to blood was a judgement of God on Egypt way back in the day.
Clarification Note: The breath of life enters the witnesses but Jesus does not overcome these people with the breath of His mouth but rather His enemies in a different scenario. (In case someone thought these two separate statements were related in context, not just in the presence of 'breath.')

I understand that prophecy could be playing out here and now. I wrote a book on the subject. But how would Q know this? How would 'Trust the Plan' know this?
He sure does. But you cannot tell me the entire Q plan was sold to the President of the United States based on a single person's 'knowing' that Biblical prophecy was about to unfold. Granted Q has always deferred to God. But unless there was some kind of special Revelation to an individual or small group which was validated to POTUS, then the only feasible way to be sure for a military would be some kind of super computer that has calculated all. POTUS is too conscious and responsible to put 300 million lives at risk for someone's personal interpretation of Biblical prophecy. Prove me wrong.
