"A former Heritage Academy teacher has been charged with child abuse in connection to incidents which occurred in the mid-1970s. Robert William Becker, 76, of Hagerstown, is also charged with third degree sex offender: underage victim from incidents that happened 1976-77, according to a Friday news release from the Washington County Sheriff's Office. The victim reported the incidents to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 12, 2020, the release said. Becker was a history and physical education teacher at the school during the time of the incidents. He is currently being held at the Washington County Detention Center awaiting a court appearance."
