Kathryn Murdoch is a member of the Aspen Institute. In 2016, Murdoch made contributions to numerous state democratic parties, totaling nearly half a million dollars, noting “Hillary Victory Fund” on the memo line of each of these donations. Murdoch also made a substantial donation to the Democratic National Committee (DNC), with a second donation to the DNC for $2,700 (the maximum donation allowed to a campaign), also noting “Hillary Victory Fund” on the memo line. In addition to this, Murdoch twice contributed the maximum amount allowed directly to Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, and contributed nearly $85,000 directly to the Hillary Victory Fund. FOX NEWS IS CORRUPT - Murdoch is the co-chair of the board of Unite America, a left-of-center PAC, to which she donated nearly $4 million in 2019. In 2019, Murdoch contributed the maximum amount allowed to the 2020 presidential campaigns of former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D) and Washington Gov. Jay Inslee (D).

A political action committee ‘Real Justice PAC’ cofounded by Shaun King, a Black Lives Matter and left-wing activist, has been found to have been funneling a quarter of its fundraising money back into for-profit companies linked to its leaders. The Real Justice PAC was founded with an eye towards driving criminal-justice reform across the country using the same mass mobilization techniques that were employed by the Sanders campaign.

Over the past 15 months, Real Justice PAC has been funneling money brought in and cutting dozens of checks totaling more than $460,000 to three political firms linked to PAC employees. Those firms are Social Practice LLC, Bernal Alto LLC, and Middle Seat Consulting. Social Practice LLC and Bernal Alto LLC are managed by PAC’s data strategist Jin Ding and it’s treasurer Becky Bond. Middle Seat Consulting was cofounded by one of the PAC’s original leaders, Hector Sigala.

“There are legal and ethical ways to have people in leadership positions at an organization, and also serve as vendors to the same organization. But these relationships properly raise questions, especially for a group whose leaders include someone like Shaun King, who has repeatedly been accused of enriching himself improperly,” said Scott Walker, president of the Capitol Research Center, a money-in-politics watchdog.

Because PAC is a 501(c)(3) charity, the IRS actually prohibits excessive benefits to individuals from the organization’s coffers. The same charities that criticize their opponents for ‘dark money’ influence should also be prepared to defend practices that let their leaders write checks to their own for-profit consultancies.
