I get the distinct sense that you and I might be on the same land mass, dealing with the same people, having a lot of the same thoughts on the situation here. Could be wrong, but that's my impression.
Maybe tell me if the following assessment applies to where you are.
These people live in a media bubble / echo chamber that is largely constrained by two factors: language and a national identity that is largely characterized by juxtaposed superiority and inferiority complexes. They have no idea how fucked up the world is right now, because they stay on their own internet, and they get their international news from outlets that just regurgitate the American MSM. It's like living as an adult in a giant kindergarten, being the only one who is aware that the building is on fire, and the toddlers will not listen. Even the few I've managed to get to look directly at the flames coming down the hallway refuse to believe.
I've been trying not to allow my desire to unleash "I told you so's" to get so tainted with contempt that it becomes schadenfreude.
