“You know, I had dinners with him,” Gates said. “I regret doing that. He had relationships with people he said would give to global health, which is an interest I have. Not nearly enough philanthropy goes in that direction. Those meetings were a mistake. They didn’t result in what he purported and I cut them off,” Gates said.

“It was reported that you continued to meet with him over several years, and there were a number of meetings. What did you do when you found out about his background?” Woodruff asked.

Gates started to squirm.

“I said I regretted having those dinners, and there’s nothing, absolutely nothing new on that,” Gates said.

“Is there a lesson for you, for anyone else looking at this?” Woodruff asked.

On Wednesday The Daily Mail reported on a whistleblower and defector Wei Jingsheng alleging the COVID virus was first spread at the China Military Games in 2019, two months before the global outbreak.

Wuhan Scientists Planned To Release 'Chimeric Covid Spike Proteins' Into Bat Populations Using 'Skin-Penetrating Nanoparticles'

18 months before the pandemic, scientists in Wuhan, China submitted a proposal to release enhanced airborne coronaviruses into the wild in an effort to inoculate them against diseases that could have otherwise jumped to humans, according to The Telegraph, citing leaked grant proposals from 2018.

New documents show that just 18 months before the first Covid-19 cases appeared, researchers had submitted plans to release skin-penetrating nanoparticles containing “novel chimeric spike proteins” of bat coronaviruses into cave bats in Yunnan, China.

They also planned to create chimeric viruses, genetically enhanced to infect humans more easily, and requested $14million from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (Darpa) to fund the work.

The bid was submitted by zoologist Peter Daszak of US-based EcoHealth Alliance, who was hoping to use genetic engineering to cobble "human-specific cleavage sites" onto bat Covid 'which would make it easier for the virus to enter human cells' - a method which would coincidentally answer a longstanding question among the scientific community as to how SARS-CoV-2 evolved to become so infectious to humans.

Daszak's proposal also included plans to commingle high-risk natural coronaviruses strains with more infectious, yet less deadly versions. His 'bat team' of researchers included Dr. Shi Zhengli from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, as well as US researchers from the University of North Carolina and the US Geological Survey National Wildlife Health Center.

Darpa refused the contract - saying "It is clear that the proposed project led by Peter Daszak could have put local communities at risk," while warning that Daszak hadn't fully considered the dangers involved in enhancing the virus via gain-of-function research, or by releasing a vaccine into the air.

Grant documents show that the team also had some concerns about the vaccine programme and said they would “conduct educational outreach … so that there is a public understanding of what we are doing and why we are doing it, particularly because of the practice of bat-consumption in the region”.

Angus Dalgleish, Professor of Oncology at St Georges, University of London, who struggled to get work published showing that the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) had been carrying out “gain of function” work for years before the pandemic, said the research may have gone ahead even without the funding.

“This is clearly a gain of function, engineering the cleavage site and polishing the new viruses to enhance human cell infectibility in more than one cell line,” he said. -Telegraph

More Than Half Of US Companies To Impose Vaccine Mandates, New Survey Finds

A survey conducted by risk management and advisory company Willis Towers Watson has found that more than half of U.S. companies expect to impose COVID vaccine mandates on their employees by the end of the year.

The survey of 1000 companies, employing close to 10 million people, found that 52 percent of employers are planning some form of vaccine mandate for workers.

The figure would be a massive increase on the 21 percent of employers who currently have mandates in place.

The survey also found that almost one-third of employers say they are planning to make full vaccination a requirement to enter the workplace building.

A further 21 percent said could make vaccination a requirement for any new hires, the literal enacting of a ‘no jab, no job’ policy.

The survey also noted that 59 percent of employers are already tracking workers’ vaccination status, with a further 19 percent planning to do so by the end of the year.

Of those already tracking vaccination status, 62 percent require workers to submit proof of vaccination.

The survey also found that “Eight in 10 respondents (80%) require employees to wear masks indoors at any location. Another 13% are planning or considering doing so.”

Facebook tested secret project, approved by Mark Zuckerberg, that pushed positive spin about company to combat bad press – reports

Facebook reportedly conducted a secret campaign to push more positive content about the platform – some written internally – via its users’ ‘News Feeds’ in a bid to counter the effects of negative media coverage on its reputation.

The social media giant’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg apparently personally approved the initiative – dubbed ‘Project Amplify’ – in August, despite Facebook executives being shocked by the idea when it was proposed at a meeting in January, according to the New York Times.

Since being approved in August, Facebook has reportedly trialed the initiative in three unidentified US cities using a tool called ‘Quick Promotes’ that pushed positive stories about the company and its products on the network’s most important feature, News Feeds.

The site’s users in these cities would see posts with the Facebook logo that linked to stories and websites published by the company and on third-party local news sites. For instance, one such story with the headline ‘Facebook’s Latest Innovations for 2021’ detailed how it was pursuing “100% renewable energy for our global operations.”

According to the newspaper, this is the first time Facebook has explicitly promoted positive press about itself. The report links the campaign to a “multi-pronged effort” adopted since that January meeting to “aggressively reshape its image” by distancing Zuckerberg from scandals, reducing access to internal data, hiding potentially negative reports, and developing more ad campaigns about itself.

In contrast to its previously apologetic response to scandals such as the Cambridge Analytica data leak, Facebook’s PR strategy has become increasingly combative in recent months – during, for instance, its response to a Wall Street Journal report last week about the existence of a shadowy internal system that protected millions of high-profile Facebook users from its content-moderation practices.

After a barrage of criticism, including from former US President Donald Trump, Facebook VP of Global Affairs Nick Clegg published a blog post that called out the publication for "deliberate mischaracterizations," alleging that it "conferred egregiously false motives" on company officials.

‘Family Guy’ releases Covid vaccine explainer to push back against Fox News host Tucker Carlson, irking some online

American cartoon comedy ‘Family Guy’ has released an explainer video in which characters Stewie and Brian tell viewers the truth about vaccines, while dad Peter has a change of heart and gets his Covid-19 shot from the doctor.

On Tuesday, the animated Fox sitcom released a short clip on its social media pages. The video shows father – and resident dimwit – Peter, sitting on a hospital bed and asking his dog Brian why he should get the Covid-19 vaccine, insisting that he hates getting shots. Brian swiftly corrects Peter's pronunciation of “Covid,” to which Peter replies, “Well I only ever read it.”

When Dr. Hartman enters the room, Peter asks him “how does a vaccine work?” However, the doctor's response is less than conventional. “Think of the vaccine as a large ethnic bouncer and Covid-19 as the drunken entitled white kid yelling ‘Do you know my father is?’” the doctor says, before baby Stewie interrupts.

Stewie then enters into a monologue explaining how vaccines have been around for hundreds of years, that they helped eradicate smallpox from the face of the Earth and are well on the way to doing the same for Polio. Brian and Stewie then teleport themselves inside Peter's body as they proceed to explain exactly how a vaccine works, with Peter’s daughter Meg being used to represent the virus and spike protein.

The talking baby concludes that the vaccine protects both those who receive it and those around them. The video stops short of telling people to get vaccinated. The final shot shows a plaster with the words “It's up to you,” with links to further vaccine information.

“It's up to you” is a Covid-19 vaccination initiative from the Ad Council. Lisa Sherman, president and CEO of the Ad Council, said in a statement that the ‘Family Guy’ video was bringing “critical vaccine information to audiences in a fresh and hilarious way that will surely inspire people to take the next step in slowing the pandemic.” She thanked Fox for its cooperation on the issue.

The video has received plenty of praise from people online, with one even going so far to say it is “the smartest and most accurate thing that Fox has released about covid to date!”

Others suggested the video was well pitched. “Well done! Said so adults will understand ( hopefully)” one person wrote on Twitter. Another said it was “funny and informative!”

However, not everyone was so pleased with ‘Family Guy’ and its creator and voice actor Seth MacFarlane. One person questioned why a cartoon writer and voice-over guy thought he was an authority on medicine. “Whether Im provax or not, shut the hell up and stay in your lane, you get paid to entertain, not push your opinions,” one argued.

“I'm vaccinated, I've had my shots. But you've gone political which is bulls**t,” another chimed in, asking whether ‘Family Guy’ would be advocating giving the mRNA shot to baby Stewie.

One person claimed they'd rather catch Covid than watch the ‘Family Guy’ video again.

Melbourne Police Fire Large Projectiles, Pepper Balls at Protesters on 3rd Day of Demonstrations

Police in Melbourne, Australia, fired pepper balls and large projectiles at unarmed civilians on Wednesday, seeking to disperse crowds that took to the streets to protest against the government’s vaccine mandates and COVID-19 restrictions.

This is the third day of demonstrations by construction industry workers in Melbourne against mandatory COVID-19 vaccination. Besides construction workers, protesters also included others who oppose mandatory vaccination as well as the extended lockdown in Victoria state.

Videos in the morning showed police firing shots at small groups of people in Melbourne’s central business district (CBD), with photos of the projectile rounds appearing to be half the size of a fist. A separate video showed a policeman tackling a woman onto the ground.

Starting in the early afternoon, groups of protesters, ultimately totaling about 2,000, converged from various areas and marched from around the Melbourne headquarters of the Construction, Forestry, Maritime, Mining and Energy Union (CFMMEU) toward the Shrine of Remembrance, a sacred war memorial, ultimately gathering there later in the afternoon.

At the Shrine, they chanted multiple slogans against vaccine mandates and against Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews. They also sang songs, including the national anthem. The crowd furthermore held a minute’s silence for those who died from suicide amid the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus pandemic.

Numbers dwindled at the shrine throughout the afternoon amid back and forth negotiations between the crowd and the riot police, who sought to ask them to peacefully leave the area without getting arrested.

Police surrounded the area at about 2:20 p.m., reported the Herald Sun. At the time, the vast majority of the group remained on the steps of the memorial.

A man on a loudspeaker called on police to stand down. “Protesting is a human right … we must be allowed to walk,” he told the surrounding officers, reported the outlet. “You still have a chance to do what you signed up to do, and have children who look up to you.

“We are here to be peaceful we don’t have weapons … we need you, like you need us,” the man said.

The standoff reportedly lasted over three hours, during which the crowd was heard chanting “hold your ground.” A video showed police officers taking select people away to arrest them amid the standoff.

By approximately 4:20 p.m., a police loudspeaker told the crowd they were “free to leave” via St Kilda Road. Heavily armed officers began to move in on the unarmed protesters, eventually surrounding a smaller number of protesters on the steps of the Shrine.

Texas Forms Miles-Long Border Barrier from State Troopers and National Guard Vehicles

DEL RIO, Texas — Governor Greg Abbott ordered the Texas Department of Public Safety and National Guard to use vehicles to create a miles-long barrier to stop the flow of mostly Haitian migrants from crossing the Rio Grande. The vehicle barrier, along with the recently constructed Texas border fencing, effectively blocked the illegal crossings and enabled Border Patrol officials to reduce the population of the Del Rio migrant encampment.

Governor Abbott ordered the DPS and Texas National Guard on September 19 to begin the use of a vehicle barrier to block the crossing of migrants from Ciudad Acuna, Coahuila, to Del Rio, Texas. Since that time, hundreds of law enforcement vehicles poured into the region creating a miles-long barrier along the Rio Grande, DPS officials told the governor during a briefing on Tuesday in Del Rio.

House Republicans Deliver Three Articles of Impeachment Against Joe Biden

Rep. Bob Gibbs (R-OH) introduced three articles of impeachment against President Biden on Tuesday for mishandling the deadly Afghan evacuation, creating the southern border crisis, and attempting to usurp the Supreme Court ruling to expand the federal moratorium on evictions.

The first article of impeachment speaks to Biden’s violation of “his constitutional oath to faithfully execute the office of President,” regarding the southern border crisis.

“I take this seriously. I don’t think it’s haphazard. I’m not trying to get media attention for myself,” Gibbs told the Washington Examiner. “He’s done so much damage to this country in less than nine months, which is really scary.”

The second article concerns trashing the separation of powers by illegally attempting to extend the federal moratorium on evictions. “Despite the clear warning from the U.S. Supreme Court” and “with no legislative directive from the U.S. Congress,” Biden violated a key principle of American republicanism, Gibbs wrote.

“He’s not capable of being commander-in-chief, and that’s obvious by the actions since Day One when he took the presidency back in January,” Gibbs explained.

The final article of impeachment asserts Biden “failed to act responsibly as Commander in Chief with regard to the withdrawal of United States forces from Afghanistan.”

“At some point, they’re gonna be held accountable for their actions, and this is kind of putting them on notice,” he told the publication. “Maybe something like this makes the White House think twice before they do some of this nonsense.”

“Obviously, it’s not going to go anywhere with Speaker Pelosi,” Gibbs continued. “It shows that there are some Republicans that think that this president needs to be impeached, he needs to be removed from office one way or another.”

Gibbs introduced the articles with three co-sponsors: Reps. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Brian Babin (R-TX), and Randy Weber (R-TX).

Lithuania Tells Citizens to Throw Away Chinese Phones to Avoid Communist Censorship

Lithuania has warned its citizens to avoid using smartphones from China over concerns of censorship, saying that Xiaomi phones, in particular, have actual built-in censorship software.

On Tuesday, the Defense Ministry of Lithuania said that Xiaomi phones sold in Europe such as the 1810.HK flagship device has the capability to censor or block internet search results for terms such as “Free Tibet”, “Long live Taiwan independence” or “democracy movement”.

“This is important not only to Lithuania but to all countries which use Xiaomi equipment,” the Defence Ministry’s National Cyber Security Centre said in a report.

Speaking to reporters in Vilnius, deputy defence minister Margiris Abukevicius said per Reuters: “Our recommendation is to not buy new Chinese phones, and to get rid of those already purchased as fast as reasonably possible.”

The report found that currently at least 449 Chinese terms are censored by Xiaomi system apps, including the default internet browser for the phone. The cybersecurity body noted that the list of banned phrases is updated continuously.

While the censorship capability was supposedly turned off for the Mi 10T phone for the “European Union region”, Lithuania noted that it can be turned on remotely at any time.

Another worry raised was that the Xiaomi phone was sending Lithuanian encrypted messages to a server in Singapore.

Security concerns over Chinese tech have been longstanding, with the Trump administration warning the UK last year that Huawei has the capability to build backdoors into their 5G networks to be used for espionage.

Tensions have been rising between Lithuania and China since the NATO member decided in May to withdraw from the 17+1 group of Eastern European nations, which sought to increase Chinese Belt and Road infrastructure spending in the former Soviet bloc.

Diplomatic relations were further soured after Lithuania took the bold step of opening up a defacto Taiwanese embassy, enraging the communist government in Beijing which still lays claim to Taiwan despite the island nation having its own distinct government, currency, and culture.

In August, the CCP decided to recall its ambassador from Vilnius and the state-run Global Times newspaper even threatened to go to war with the “crazy, tiny country” over the issue.

“China will not allow Lithuania to become an example for other countries to follow. Some European countries must not think about using the Taiwan question as leverage against China. The Taiwan question cannot be used as a bargaining chip. It is a high voltage line, even a watershed between peace and war,” the communist mouthpiece wrote.

In an exclusive interview with this publication following the threats, Lithuanian MP Dovilė Šakalienė said that her country “does not respond well to threats… we’ve been used to threats for more than half a century (under Soviet Rule).”

Šakalienė, who was sanctioned in March by China for spearheading legislation condemning the “genocide” of Muslim Uyghurs in Xinjiang, added: “We are small but we are tough and we will make our own decisions on who we partner with.”

Fauci: Three shots will be the new standard for a full coronavirus vaccination

Dr. Anthony Fauci recently defended the Biden Administration’s recommendation to get COVID-19 vaccine booster shots, saying that three doses of an mRNA vaccine could be the standard for a full vaccination.

“I would not at all be surprised that the adequate, full regimen for vaccination will likely be three doses,” he said during a briefing of the White House coronavirus response team. However, he did say that regulators will have to make that determination.

Fauci presented Israeli data showing the waning immunity to the virus after about eight months. This, he said, supported the rationale for the necessity of getting booster shots.

After more delta variant cases surged in Israel in early summer, the number of positive cases and severe COVID-related illnesses rose among vaccinated individuals. By then, many Israelis had been vaccinated for more than half a year.

The unexpected delta surge forced Israel to begin administering booster shots using the Pfizer vaccine beginning July 30 to older individuals who are most likely to become ill of the disease. Less than two weeks later, Israel saw a positive impact that Fauci said has a “greater-than-tenfold diminution in the relative risk of both confirmed infection and severe disease.”

Fauci also said that the protection provided by a third shot was dramatic and durable, considering that the risk of infection dropped by as much as 84 percent three weeks after a third shot, compared to the two-shot regimen.

Initially, two doses of mRNA technology vaccine (manufactured by Pfizer and Moderna) were considered sufficient, but virologists now believe immunity needs to be enhanced, thus recommending the third shot. Health experts also say that it is not uncommon for vaccines to require more than two doses: for instance, vaccinations for hepatitis B as well as HPV require third doses, with the third dose administered several months after the second.

Biden administration faces hurdles over booster shot rollout

The administration called to begin dispensing booster shots on September 20. Brazil's Minister of Health, who tested positive for COVID-19 while attending a United Nations conference in New York City, was seen on video giving protesters the middle finger after meeting with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and staying at the same hotel as Joe Biden.

Brazilian journalist Raquel Krähenbühl tweeted the nine-second clip on Monday night, showing Marcelo Queiroga angrily flipping off protesters from a van as it left the UN building.

Hacker group Anonymous has released a massive trove of names, passwords and addresses of far-right website administrators, that experts are calling the 'Panama Papers of hate groups'.

The intrusion targeted Epik, a Washington-based domain registrar that provides a safe haven to far-right websites, some of whom had been turned away from more mainstream web hosting services.

The 150 gigabytes of data are a 'who's who' of Internet - and real-life - trolls. Epik has hosted QAnon home base 8chan, neo-Nazi news site The Daily Stormer and the far-right social media platforms Gab and Parler.

Experts say that the vast amount of data could take years to sift through.

'It's massive. It may be the biggest domain-style leak I've seen and, as an extremism researcher, it's certainly the most interesting,' Elon University computer science professor Megan Squire told the Washington Post.

'It's an embarrassment of riches - stress on the embarrassment.'

The breach was first reported by freelance reporter Steven Monacelli on September 13.

Earlier this month, Epik briefly hosted the website ProLifeWhistleblower.com, which was removed by GoDaddy because it asked for the names of doctors who performed abortions in defiance of Texas's new restrictive pro-life law.

Epik was founded in 2009 by Rob Monster, who has defended his work as keeping the internet free and open.

The data leak revealed the lack of cybersecurity undergirding Epik, which some say should have known better considering the sensitive material it hosts.

Anonymous made the data available for download with a note saying it would help researchers trace the ownership and management of 'the worst trash the Internet has to offer.'

The files include years of website purchase records, internal company emails and customer account credentials that reveal who administers some of the biggest far-right websites in the world.

The data includes client names, home addresses, email addresses, phone numbers and passwords.

Ali Alexander, an activist who organized one of the rallies that led to the January 6 Capitol riot, tried to hide his creation of 'Stop the Steal' websites after the riot.

Victoria Police granted 'no fly zone' over Melbourne's CBD

Media helicopters must get police permission to fly over Melbourne's CBD and delay publishing aerial footage for at least one hour under new orders.

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) confirmed to 9News.com.au that Victoria Police had been granted a temporary restricted airspace order over the CBD as they face ongoing protests. Initially media helicopters were completely banned to fly, but Victoria Police have backtracked to allow any who have been given permission but demanded a 60-minute delay on broadcasting any aerial images.

From Thursday, no aircraft is allowed within a three nautical mile radius or below 2500 feet of Melbourne's CBD without permission from police.

The "unprecedented" move has sparked anger and the Alliance for Journalists' Freedom (AJF) has demanded police immediately lift the order.

Police say the restriction, which is in place until September 26, is to avoid aiding protesters from having access to live footage showing them where officers are as they try to disrupt the groups.

"As part of the conditions, pilots will need to obtain approval from Victoria Police airwing before taking off to ensure there are no safety risks," a Victorian Police spokesperson said.

"Media outlets will also be required to delay publishing any livestream footage from the air by 60 minutes or at the conclusion of the operation.

"This is because protestors were actively monitoring aerial livestreams, compromising the police operation and putting the safety of members at risk."

Speaking to 3AW's Heidi Murphy, Nine's National Director of News and Current Affairs Darren Wick said the move by Victoria Police was "unprecedented".

"Where the concern for us about this is that it was done without consultation. In the past, if police have sought our assistance during a siege or a bushfire in terms of chopper vision we've always talked it through and come up with a sensible decision," Wick told 3AW.

"We support Victoria Police 100 per cent. We respect the rule of the law and we support the actions in what they trying to do to control these protests.
