Even though I knew there would be bits and pieces of news, I finally could no longer go on his site because it just elicited a sense of hopelessness. I really believe there are subliminals embedded.

This is an excerpt from his 1999 Y2K rant that went on for hours. Please explain to me what the point of this is. I've transcribed the first 22 seconds of the excerpt:
