No Jail or Public Sex Offender Register for Officer Who Solicited a Child for Sex While On-Duty

Genesee County, MI — Benjamin Reinhart, a disgraced officer with Genesee County received some great news this week. Despite being caught up in a child sexual trafficking sting, he won’t have to go to jail and he won’t have to register publicly as a sex offender.

Reinhart was “sentenced” this week as part of a plea deal, to just five years of probation. The Genesee Human Oppression Strike Team, or GHOST, caught the officer in April attempting to lure a child for sex. He was on duty at the time.

Despite facing multiple charges, Reinhart was given a sweet plea deal for pleading guilty in August to a single count of using a computer to commit a crime and one count of misconduct in office.

In exchange for his guilty plea, the charges of child sexually abusive activity and children accosting for immoral purposes, were thrown out. Prior to his plea deal, this sexual predator was guaranteed that he would have no jail time as well as a cap of six months on a jail tether.

For those who may not know, “tether” is an electronic monitoring device that allows parole officers to monitor and enforce curfews and other conditions of community supervision for those released from jail or on house arrest.

Despite attempting to lure a child for sexual abuse, Reinhart will also not have to register publicly as a sex offender. He will only be placed on the non-public sex offender registry.

According to mlive, Reinhart was arrested and fired from his position with the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office in April after he allegedly exchanged messages with an undercover officer posing as a 15-year-old girl online, Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson said during an April news briefing.

Swanson told reporters that Reinhart had sent 446 messages to the undercover officer he believed was a child, attempting to groom her. He also sent 118 messages and six sexually explicit images while he was on duty and demanded the same in return.

Apparently, prosecutors don’t think he is a threat to society, so he is back in it — a free man.

Imagine being okay with not giving this predator any jail time. Imagine thinking that it is fine for the public not to know about his attempts to lure a child for sex. Then, imagine that these same people will lock you in a cage for years for being caught with arbitrary substances.

In this same state, countless people are rotting in a cage for possession of a plant. One of those people is Rudi Gammo who was charged in 2018 with operating a medical marijuana dispensary before voters approved of legalizing adult use of marijuana.

He was literally helping people, giving them medicine that they needed and because of a minor technicality in the law, he was thrown in a cage and is still serving a five and a half year sentence. He never hurt anyone and marijuana is now legal both medically and recreationally in the state.

“I’m in here under the pandemic. Everyone else is doing the same thing that I did years ago. I’m paying the price for it. My family members are the victims. My family is struggling without me. My son has leukemia,” Gammo said in a phone interview earlier this month with ClickOnDetroit. “Even if I have to stay here, as long as I know I got those people supporting me, I can’t ask for nothing more.”

When child predator police officers receive no jail as completely innocent cannabis farmers and distributors rot behind bars, it may be time to rethink the justice system in the land of the free.

14 Mexican Soldiers Detained by U.S. CBP After Incursion at Texas Border

A group of 14 Mexican soldiers riding in two vehicles crossed into Texas at an international port of entry. The incursion led to officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection taking their weapons and temporarily placing them in handcuffs. One of the soldiers had a small amount of marijuana.

The incident took place early on Saturday morning when a group of soldiers on the Cordova -Americas International Port Bridge drove past the international border marker into El Paso, Texas, Mexico’s 24 Horas reported. As the soldiers got close to the checkpoints manned by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, officers detained them, took their weapons, and placed them in handcuffs.

CBP confirmed the incident in an email to Reuters, saying, “Just after midnight today CBP officers working at the Bridge of the America’s international crossing in El Paso noted two Mexican military vehicles crossing the boundary and entering the U.S.

Drivers line up at the Cordova-Americas international bridge in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua state, Mexico as Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents in El Paso, Texas, U.S. partially closed the lanes, delaying the crossing of vehicles on March 31, 2019. – President Donald Trump on Friday again accused Mexico of failing to curb the flow of migrants illegally entering the US, and threatened to close the border “next week” unless something changes. The security measure is due to the “humanitarian crisis” declared by CBP because it has processed 13 thousand 400 migrants detained by the Border Patrol.

According to the AP, the soldiers claimed to not have realized they had crossed the international boundary. After several hours, U.S. authorities released the soldiers and returned their vehicles and weapons. One of the soldiers also faced a civil penalty after U.S. authorities found a small amount of marijuana on him.

CBP officials stated the 14 soldiers, their equipment, and vehicles were returned to Mexico before 5 a.m., Reuters reported.

Texas Sues Biden Administration Over Federal Transgender Guidance

Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says employers must use preferred pronouns

Texas is suing the Biden administration to invalidate a federal civil rights directive on pronoun usage and bathroom access in the workplace.

The challenge is to an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission advisory that says employers must let LGBT workers access the bathrooms of their choice. The EEOC warned in the same advisory that failure to use a worker's preferred pronouns could amount to unlawful harassment. The document is based on the Supreme Court's landmark gay rights decision, Bostock v. Clayton County.

In Bostock, the Supreme Court said it is illegal under federal law to fire someone for being gay or transgender. President Joe Biden signed an executive order committing to a whole-of-government implementation of the Bostock decision on his first day in office. The order intends to guarantee civil rights protections for LGBT people in a wide range of contexts, from housing to refugee resettlement. The order put the administration on a collision course with red state dissenters on issues like bathroom access and women's sports.

Texas says the EEOC's directive goes well beyond the Court's holding in Bostock and violates the First Amendment to the extent it forces workers to use a person's preferred pronouns.

"States should be able to choose protection of privacy for their employers over subjective views of gender, and this illegal guidance puts many women and children at risk," Texas attorney general Ken Paxton said in a statement. "These backdoor attempts to force businesses, including the state of Texas, to align with [EEOC's] beliefs is unacceptable."

The Washington Free Beacon reported in June that some EEOC officials think Democratic appointees violated internal procedures to issue the document, and some career attorneys at the agency are anxious about defending it in court.

Texas is suing because many of the state's agencies could face investigations or lawsuits if the document is allowed to stand. For example, the Texas Department of Agriculture requires its employees to dress "tastefully and professionally and be well groomed," according to the complaint. It would consider an employee "dressed as a member of the opposite sex" to be in violation of the dress code policy. It does not have a policy on pronoun usage.

Agency offices have both mixed-sex bathrooms and unisex, single-occupancy bathrooms. State lawyers said in the complaint that the agency will not allow employees to use bathrooms inconsistent with their biological sex.

Though the Court ruled narrowly in Bostock, administration lawyers and judicial liberals say the justices' reasoning naturally applies to other forms of LGBT discrimination. Lawyers for the state counter that Bostock is limited to and cannot justify guidance as expansive as EEOC's.

"Bostock is far narrower than the June 15 guidance," the lawsuit reads. "Bostock explicitly disclaimed that it was deciding whether sex-segregated bathrooms, locker rooms, and dress codes would violate Title VII. Nor did the Court ever address the issue of pronouns."

The Court's decision said it was not broaching any disputes involving "sex-segregated bathrooms, locker rooms, and dress codes."

Pennsylvania Democratic lawmaker arrested, accused of harassment, violating protection order

State Rep. Kevin Boyle, D-Philadelphia, was arraigned early Saturday.

State Rep. Kevin Boyle, D-Philadelphia, has been arrested by city law enforcement on charges accusing him of harassment and violating a protection from abuse order.

Court documents show the 41-year-old lawmaker was arraigned in the early hours of Saturday morning. A trial date is set for Tuesday.

The news comes just days after Spotlight PA reported that House Democratic leadership stripped Boyle of his committee chairmanship and limited his access to the state capitol building.

Boyle told the news outlet that the caucus had been given “incorrect” information about him. Minority Leader Joanna McClinton, D-Philadelphia, did not comment.

The Center Square reached out to the House Democratic Caucus on Saturday for comment on Boyle’s arrest, but did not receive an immediate response.

In an email to reporters sent Saturday afternoon, House Republican leaders said the news of Boyle’s arrest “is more than troubling.”

The GOP members said if the allegations are true, Boyle should resign and “focus on his personal health and the future wellbeing of those around him.”

Boyle was first elected to Pennsylvania’s 172nd district in 2010.

'Fauci' earnings mystery: No info on box office take for gushing documentary about COVID czar

Two weeks after theatrical release of friendly portrait of Anthony Fauci, major film sites have no data on receipts, and distributors National Geographic and Magnolia Pictures are mum.

Documentaries often earn a fraction of what their fictional counterparts generate, at least those without the names "Moore" or "D'Souza" attached.

"Fauci," a film detailing the scientific life of the nation's preeminent infectious disease expert, appeared to be an exception.

Dr. Anthony Fauci has his detractors, particularly on the political right, but he's still the biggest name in medical science thanks to his leadership on the COVID-19 pandemic and near-constant media presence.

The timing of the film's Sept. 10 limited release, in cities including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, D.C. and New Orleans, seemed fortuitous given the aggressive Delta variant.

Except we're still waiting on the box office tally.

No major film site — think BoxOfficeMojo.com, IMDB.com, RottenTomatoes.com or Boxoffice Pro — has the film's earnings to date. JustTheNews.com reached out to representatives at both National Geographic and Magnolia Pictures, the studios copresenting the film, for any figures from its two-plus weeks in limited release. Neither studio responded.

The film, which covers Dr. Fauci's work dealing with HIV/AIDS, SARS, Ebola and now COVID-19, features Fauci family members and fans, including Bono of U2 fame and former national security advisor Susan Rice.

Shawn Robbins, chief analyst with Boxoffice Pro, says it's "incredibly uncommon" for a major studio release to withhold its box office earnings. Some did just that at the height of the pandemic, but most resumed their transparency as theaters opened nationwide earlier this year.

Robbins notes that Warner Bros. which released its titles in both theatres and HBO Max this year, shares only weekend and weekly figures, not daily data.

"Niche distributors often lack the proper resources for data reporting. That may or may not be the case with this particular documentary," says Robbins, who isn't aware of any box office-style predictions for "Fauci" in the weeks leading up to its release.

National Geographic and Magnolia Pictures are smaller studios creating independent-minded films like the Oscar-winning "Free Solo" and "A Hijacking," respectively. Still, recent Magnolia releases like "Swan Song," "Censor" and "The East" have box office data on sites like BoxOfficeMojo.com.

Robbins says it's too soon to say "Fauci" is a box office disappointment.

"There's no way to be sure at this stage," he says.

Horrors of Child Trafficking, Exploitation Exposed at Texas Border Rally

MCALLEN, Texas — More than one hundred visitors and residents in the Texas border city of McAllen attended a rally and march to the border wall to shed light on the dangers of child trafficking. One guest speaker at the event, Karla Jacinto, recounted her story as a victim of child trafficking at the age of 12.

Retired ICE-Homeland Security Investigations Agent Victor Avila, who survived a brutal cartel attack in Mexico, also spoke to the crowd about child trafficking cases he investigated during his career.

The event, attended by more than 100 residents and visitors to McAllen, opened with an invocation by Dr. Nilsa Alvarez who recounted the open cases of missing and exploited migrants. Dr. Alvarez asked the crowd to pray for those victims and their safe return to desperate family members. The event culminated with a march to the border wall gate.

Karla Jacinto shared intimate details of being a victim of child trafficking after becoming enamored with a man who later forced her into prostitution in Mexico at the age of 12. She says a dysfunctional home environment that included physical and sexual abuse made her an easy target for exploitation.

She said the man she initially thought she loved waited three months to finally reveal his plans for her. The man, she says, forced her into prostitution and at one time forced her to work as a prostitute even while she was pregnant. After delivering her child, she says the baby was taken from her.

She says she was faced with being forced to cross illegally into the United States by her captor on multiple occasions. Luckily, she avoided being trafficked across the border to be exploited further. She was ultimately rescued by a person she credits with helping her to find the strength and recognize her self-worth as a human being. She now advocates on behalf of victims and shares her story to bring awareness to the issue.

Victor Avila, a retired ICE investigator, survived an attack by Los Zetas Cartel gunmen in Mexico in 2011. Avila was shot 3 times in the attack that killed his partner, HSI investigator Jaime Zapata. Avila told the attendees of the march about the process traffickers use to exploit children.

Shortcuts by U.S. Mission in Iraq lead to $663 million in non-competitive contracts: watchdog

Planning failures "diminished" the "ability to assess whether costs" associated with the awards were "valid and reasonable," DOS Office of Inspector General found.

This week's Golden Horseshoe is awarded to the State Department for $663 million in non-competitive contracts it awarded due to ineffective acquisition planning in its mission in Iraq, according to an audit report by the agency's Office of Inspector General.

The internal watchdog performed the audit to determine if the State Department was complying with federal and department requirements in planning and cost control for its transitional mission in Iraq. The department was to transition contracts from the Operations and Maintenance Support Services and the Baghdad Life Support Services to the Diplomatic Platform Support Services contract.

"The Department did not fully comply with Federal and Department requirements for acquisition planning while preparing for the transition of services to the DiPSS contract," the audit found. "Specifically, OIG found that ineffective acquisition planning resulted in forgoing requirements and caused delays in awarding the DiPSS contract."

The OIG found the State Department's lack of both internal controls and planning led to $663 million in 65 non-competitive contracts being awarded. Those contracts continued the OMSS and BLiSS services for years despite the Diplomatic Platform Support Services contract being awarded in 2019.

As of May 2021, the department did not issue any "Iraq-specific competitive task orders" under DiPSS, the audit found.

The watchdog blasted the State Department's justification for continuation of the contracts, which cited "unusual and compelling urgency" to claim a regulatory exemption.

The State Department "non-competitively continued OMSS and BLiSS contracts excessively, based on quantity, duration, and dollar value, and unjustifiably used a Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) exception for other than full and open competition," according to the audit.

Finding that "poor planning, poor coordination, and a lack of internal controls necessitated the contract actions," the OIG is questioning "the full value of the OMSS and BLiSS non-competitive contract actions, approximately $663 million, because Federal law does not permit poor planning as justification for the use of non-competitive contracts."

The watchdog reviewed all 65 OMSS and BLISS contracts and analyzed 14 for cost-control actions. It found the State Department did not obtain required cost estimates from the contractors or independent government cost estimates before granting the awards.

State Department officials told the OIG it "occurred because of time and resource constraints associated with awarding numerous contract actions."

However, the watchdog report found "the Department's failure to complete independent government cost estimates or obtain relevant cost or pricing data from the contractor significantly diminished the Department's ability to assess whether costs associated with the non-competitive contract awards were valid and reasonable."

U.S. B-52H Bomber Intercepted Near Russian Border

The Russian Ministry of Defense published photos of the US Air Force aircraft, which approached the border of the Russian Federation.

A strategic bomber B-52H of the US Air Force approached the border of the Russian Federation in the Pacific Ocean on September 26th.

The U.S. aircraft was detected by the Russian air defense forces in the Far Eastern Military District.

“Violations of the state border of the Russian Federation, as well as dangerous approaches of aircraft in the air were avoided,” the statement by the Russian Defence Mistry said.

According to the Ministry, the U.S. aircraft was escorted with three Russian Su-35s fighters before it changed its flight direction.

Russian forces are intercepting foreign aircraft, including B-52s of the U.S. Air Forces, on a regular basis. The foreign aircraft approach Russian border from various directions.

In the early hours of July 15th, Russian MiG-31 and Su-35 fighters were scrambled to intercept US strategic bombers over the Bering Sea. 10 days earlier, on July 3rd, two Su-27 fighters of the Russian Aerospace Force intercepted a US B-52H strategic bomber in the Baltic Sea.

Turkish-Backed Militants Fired At Russian Helicopters Conducting Patrol Over Northeastern Syria

On September 26 afternoon, Turkish-backed militants in northeastern Syria opened fire at two Russian military helicopters which were conducting a patrol over the region.

According to the Hawar News Agency, which is affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the incident took place near the town of Tell Tamr in the northern countryside of al-Hasakah. The helicopters returned fire then retreated to SDF-held areas. The Russian Military Police and the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) maintain several positions around the town.

The incident was likely a response to the recent Russian airstrikes on the Turkish-occupied area of Afrin, which claimed the lives of 11 Turkish-backed militants.

A few hours after the incident, Russian warplanes targeted a position of Turkish forces near the village of al-Dardarah to the north of Tell Tamer. The SAA also shelled the outskirts of the Turkish-occupied village.

The situation will likely esclate further in the upcoming few hours. The Russian Aerospace Forces will not likely let the incident go unpunished.

The attack on Turkish military helicopters was a blatant violation of the 2019 Russian-Turkish de-escalation agreement on northeastern Syria. Under the agreement, Russian forces are tasked with monitoring the ceasefire in the region.

Arizona Audit Final Report Was Watered Down: Reports from Cyber Ninjas Were Edited, Most Damning Statements Removed – What Else Was Removed?

The final audit reports from Cyber Ninjas work in Maricopa County Arizona were released over the weekend. They appear watered down. What was removed?

These final reports can be located here:

What’s notable is that one portion from the Executive Summary that was included in the draft released before Friday’s presentation, is not in the final Executive Summary:

Below is a draft of the final report provided by Byrne. This report shows:

In the 2020 presidential election, the margin of victory was only 10,457 votes, a small fraction of the 57,734 ballots with known issues. Again, this is almost 6 times the margin of victory in the Presidential race and is multiples of the margin of victory in other races. Based on these factual findings, the election should not be certified, and the reported results are not reliable.

Below is the draft report obtained before the presentation.

In the final report, the statement calling for decertification was eliminated.

What else was eliminated from these reports?

"F–k Them": Tucker Reacts to ADL Calling For Him to Be Fired

Tucker Carlson had choice words for the Anti-Defamation League's Jonathan Greenblatt after hearing that the pro-Israel lobbying group was once again calling for him to be fired.

"Oh, f*ck them," Carlson responded to Megyn Kelly. "The 'great replacement theory' is, in fact, not a theory, it's something that the Democrats brag about constantly, up to and including the president."

Tucker continued: "In one sentence, it's this: Rather than convince the current population that our policies are working and they should vote for us as a result, we can't be bothered to do that; we’re instead going to change the composition of the population and bring in people who will vote for us."

Gaetz requests meeting with Israeli ambassador after extortion plot

The Florida congressman is shaking trees in an attempt to clear his name

Rep. Matt Gaetz is requesting a meeting with Israel’s ambassador to the US, Gilad Erdan, to discuss the alleged extortion plot of the Gaetz family, according to a letter obtained by The Spectator.

As previously reported, days before news broke that the FBI was investigating the Florida congressman for sex trafficking allegations, Jake Novak at the Israeli consulate in New York told Dilbert cartoonist Scott Adams about the probe.

‘I come as a friend to Israel. Supporting the US-Israel relationship is very important to me and to my constituents,’ Gaetz writes in the letter. ‘Jake Novak is the Broadcast Media Relations Director at Israel’s Consulate in New York. It has come to my attention that he has exchanged a series of messages with American political commentator Scott Adams regarding me and my family. I request an in-person meeting with you to discuss this matter at your earliest convenience.’

Rep. Gaetz is the subject of a secret Grand Jury probe of sex with minors and possibly murder conspiracy,’ Novak said in a message to Adams on March 23, a week before the investigation came to light. ‘I trust the source. Charges/accusations apparently “very credible.”‘

Gaetz is presumably wondering why US-based Israeli officials were aware of the investigation before it was widely reported.

Earlier this year, Gaetz claimed he and his father, Don Gaetz, had been extorted by convicted fraudster Stephen Alford along with a former Air Force intelligence officer and a retired DoJ prosecutor. At the center of the alleged plot was an attempt by the group to free an ex-American spy, Bob Levinson, who was captured in Iran in 2007 and believed to be dead.

Novak told Adams the extortion allegations are ‘screwing up my efforts to free Bob Levinson.’ In another conversation, Novak implicates himself in the matter, claiming, ‘The real documents do not extort… And we only asked for $25 million as an estimate at first. We came way down.’ The conversation was independently verified and covered by The Spectator earlier this month. Novak did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

‘Gaetz’s dad was secretly finding [sic] us,’ he adds. ’So I’m very much wanting this to be untrue. I’ve got a commando team leader friend of mine nervously waiting for the wire transfers to clear.’

Last month, a grand jury charged Alford on wire fraud and the attempted prevention of an electronic device’s seizure. Gaetz claims his father wore a wire in one of his meetings with Alford at the direction of the FBI.  If convicted on all charges, Alford faces up to 25 years in prison.

Levinson disappeared in Iran over a decade ago during an off-the-books mission for the Central Intelligence Agency. The CIA never revealed the full scope of Levinson’s assignment or why they hired a former FBI agent to spy on the regime in the first place. Levinson’s family, moreover, received a $2.5 million annuity from the intelligence organization to stop a lawsuit revealing details of his work. The agency reportedly fired three veteran analysts and disciplined seven other employees for bungling the unknown operation.

Update 2 p.m. ET: Following this report, the Israeli Consulate in New York released a statement distancing themselves from Novak and condemning his behavior:

‘The Consulate General of Israel in New York and the State of Israel are not involved in any way, directly or indirectly in this issue. Jake Novak is a staffer at the Israeli Consulate in New York, and is not serving in any official diplomatic capacity. His correspondence mentioned in this story was not in any way, shape or form a part of his role at the consulate. After this matter was brought to our attention, it was made clear to Mr Novak that this is not acceptable by the Consulate General and he must never be involved in such matters again.’

The Zionist Luciferian Jewish Rothschilds took over all the financial operations of the worldwide Catholic Church in 1823 and purchased Jerusalem in 1829.

Today the large banking and financial business of the Catholic Church is an extensive system interlocked with the Rothschilds and the rest of the International Banking system Rothschilds control in addition to their own fortune (estimated at over half of the wealth of the entire world) the immense liquid resource of the Catholic Church, which is second only to the Rothschilds' in wealth and power.

"The Vatican has large investments with the Rothschilds of Britain, France and America, with the Hambros Bank, with the Credit Suisse in London and Zurich. In the United States it has large investments with the Morgan Bank, the Chase-Manhattan Bank, the First National Bank of New York, the Bankers Trust Company, and others.

vatican-billions-1.jpg(online here)

"The Vatican has billions of shares in the most powerful international corporations such as Gulf Oil, Shell, General Motors, Bethlehem Steel, General Electric, International Business Machines, T.W.A., etc." (…)

"In a statement published in connection with a bond prospectus, the Boston archdiocese listed its assets at Six Hundred and Thirty-five Million ($635,891,004), which is 9.9 times its liabilities. This leaves a net worth of Five Hundred and Seventy-one million dollars ($571,704,953). It is not difficult to discover the truly astonishing wealth of the church, once we add the riches of the twenty-eight archdioceses and 122 dioceses of the U.S.A., some of which are even wealthier than that of Boston.

"Some idea of the real estate and other forms of wealth controlled by the Catholic church may be gathered by the remark of a member of the New York Catholic Conference, namely 'that his church probably ranks second only to the United States Government in total annual purchase.'

"Another statement, made by a nationally syndicated Catholic priest, perhaps is even more telling. 'The Catholic church,' he said, 'must be the biggest corporation in the United States. We have a branch office in every neighborhood. Our assets and real estate holdings must exceed those of Standard Oil, A.T.&T., and U.S. Steel combined. And our roster of dues-paying members must be second only to the tax rolls of the United States Government.'"

(…) "The Catholic church, once all her assets have been put together, is the most formidable stockbroker in the world. The Vatican, independently of each successive pope, has been increasingly orientated towards the U.S. The Wall Street Journal said that the Vatican's financial deals in the U.S. alone were so big that very often it sold or bought gold in lots of a million or more dollars at one time." (…)

"The Vatican's treasure of solid gold has been estimated by the United Nations World Magazine to amount to several billion dollars. A large bulk of this is stored in gold ingots with the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank, while banks in England and Switzerland hold the rest. "But this is just a small portion of the wealth of the Vatican, which in the U.S. alone, is greater than that of the five wealthiest giant corporations of the country. When to that is added all the real estate, property, stocks and shares abroad, then the staggering accumulation of the wealth of the Catholic church becomes so formidable as to defy any rational assessment."

Taliban, who the Biden admin hailed as 'businesslike,' hang body from crane, put other corpses out for public display as 'lesson'

Despite recent praise from the Biden administration, the Taliban appear to have returned to ruthless tactics just one month after seizing control of Afghanistan. Four bodies were recently displayed for the public to see, putting Afghans and the world on notice that the hardline Taliban government will rule with an iron fist.

Taliban officials brought four bodies to the central square in the western city of Herat, the Associated Press reported. Three corpses were transported to other parts of the city for public display, according to local resident Wazir Ahmad Seddiqi. A crowd gathered in the city square to see a bloodied body hanged from a crane on Saturday. Reuters reported that the bloodstained corpse swinging on the crane had a note pinned to the man's chest that read, "This is the punishment for kidnapping."

Taliban officials claimed that the four men were caught participating in a kidnapping plot earlier on Saturday. The alleged suspects were reportedly killed during a gunfight with police. Ziaulhaq Jalali — the Taliban-appointed police chief in Herat — claimed that kidnappers abducted a father and son, who were rescued. A Taliban militant and a civilian were wounded during the shootout.

"The aim of this action is to alert all criminals that they are not safe," a Taliban commander told the AP.

Herat province's deputy governor Mawlawi Shir Ahmad Muhajir said the public hanging was a "lesson."

"In order to be a lesson for other kidnappers not to kidnap or harass anyone, we hung them in the squares of the city and made this clear to everyone that anyone who steals or abducts or does any action against our people will be punished," Muhajir said.

The Daily Wire reported that Republican Rep. Michael Waltz (Fla.) reacted to the grisly image of the hanging, "America needs to see and understand what brutal terrorist thugs we are dealing with…and that their violence will follow us home."

Last week, one of the founders of the Taliban declared that executions and hand amputations would return in Afghanistan. Mullah Nooruddin Turabi — who was justice minister and head of the Ministry of Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice during the Taliban's previous reign — told the Associated Press, "Cutting off of hands is very necessary for security."

"Everyone criticized us for the punishments in the stadium, but we have never said anything about their laws and their punishments," Turabi said. "No one will tell us what our laws should be. We will follow Islam and we will make our laws on the Quran."

State Department spokesman Ned Price responded to Turabi's promise of executions and amputations by saying the punishments "would constitute clear gross abuses of human rights."

"We stand firm with the international community to hold perpetrators of these, of any such abuses, accountable," Price told reporters on Friday.

Previously, the Biden administration praised the Taliban for being "businesslike and professional."

Turkey Wants US Military to Leave Syria, Iraq After Afghanistan Withdrawal, Erdogan Says

American and NATO troops withdrew from Afghanistan by 30 August after US President Joe Biden announced the end of the nearly 20-year war. The withdrawal, however, was marked by chaos as many Afghan civilians who helped the alliance remained abandoned in the country seized by the Taliban*.

Turkey wants the US to withdraw its troops from other countries in the region similar to how it pulled out of Afghanistan, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stated, responding to a question from CBS News. Erdogan specifically named Syria and Iraq as the two countries where Washington should end its military presence in his view. The Turkish president suggested that such a move would promote peace in the region.

"Of course, if I have the choice I would, I would want them to get out of Syria and Iraq. Just like the way they have withdrawn from Afghanistan. Because if we are going to service peace around the world, it's no longer meaningful to remain in those parts of the world. We can just leave those people, leave those administrations to make up their own minds".

When asked by the CBS anchor, whether Erdogan ever raised the issue of a possible withdrawal from Syria with US President Biden, the Turkish president said he never asked POTUS about this when they met in Brussels. Erdogan added that he and Biden mostly focused on Afghanistan in their conversations.

Beijing Responsible for ‘Largest Transnational Crackdown in the World’ to Muzzle Diaspora, Report Finds

The Chinese regime has mounted the “largest transnational crackdown in the world” to ensure that Chinese communities globally toe the Party line, according to a recent report.

The expansive campaign targets dissidents who fled China and those who hold a different point of view from the regime. Beijing’s tactics include spying, threats, harassment, physical assaults, and piling pressure on their relatives remaining in China, according to the nearly 650-page report by the Institute for Strategic Studies of Military Schools (IRSEM), an independent agency affiliated with the French Ministry of Armed Forces, which presents a comprehensive look into the Chinese influence operations worldwide.

The regime also directly exerts pressure on at least nine foreign states, demanding the arrest of individuals in those countries wanted by Chinese authorities.

Around 60 million ethnic Chinese live outside of China, with America seeing the fastest-growing Chinese population, according to the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, an administrative body under China’s cabinet-like State Council that liaises with overseas Chinese.

To the regime, this population is a “priority target” for influence operation, the report said, because they have easier access to uncensored views critical of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), and are likely to spread such information to their relatives in mainland China.

Despite a vast majority of them having foreign citizenship and therefore not considered Chinese nationals, Beijing has maintained that all Chinese overseas are members of one “big Chinese family” bound by blood ties, while branding those who step out of line as “traitors.”

On Aug. 23, 2019, the Chinese ambassador to Lithuania and Chinese embassy officials took part in counter-protests to disrupt a pro-Hong Kong rally in support of the city’s democracy movement. After police intervened and arrested two Chinese citizens, several Chinese diplomats approached police with their embassy badges demanding the detainees’ release. Lithuania later protested by summoning the Chinese envoy, saying the Chinese embassy staff “were involved in organizing unlawful actions.”

In Sweden, two businessmen representing the Chinese state had attempted to silence activist Angela Gui, daughter of Chinese-born Swedish bookseller Gui Minhai who Beijing sentenced to 10 years in jail in 2020. During a February 2019 meeting in Stockholm, the businessmen promised to secure her father’s release if she stopped talking to the media, the report said. One of the men told her that if she doesn’t trust them, she may never see her father again.

“What is most important to you? Your values or your father?” she recalled him saying.

The meeting was initiated by Sweden’s ambassador to China Anna Lindstedt. After a public outcry in Sweden, the country recalled Lindstedt from Beijing and placed her under investigation.

Gui was far from the only overseas Chinese to experience threats from the CCP’s agents.

The Big Ten Donors: property developers ratchet up their spending on politicians

Research from the Centre for Public Integrity has shown that over the past 20 years, the property and construction sectors disclosed a total of over $54 million in donations to political parties. Callum Foote reports.

Despite moves to tackle the toxic influence of property developer donations in NSW and Queensland, the rate of donations made by property developers is increasing, and is increasingly concentrated among a few large players, according to new research from the Centre for Public Integrity (CPI).

This trend is “highly problematic for public trust in the democratic process” according to the CPI. It is commonly thought that less than half of property and other political donations are actually disclosed, so the true figure may be higher than $100m. Some $1.5 billion in payments to political parties over two decades was “undisclosed”.

Further to the rising political payments and the flawed disclosure regime, an investigation by Michael West Media earlier this year found dozens of major corporations are actually members of the major parties and often pay exactly the same membership, be they for gold, platinum or silver membership fees.

In 2019, disclosed donations reached an all-time annual high of $5.6 million in anticipation of the Federal election. Of this, 72% or just over $4 million came from a single source, Sugolena Ptd Ltd. Sugolena’s donation was exclusively to the Federal Liberal Party.

That year, Sugolena was the Liberal Party’s second-biggest single donor, behind the party’s fundraising arm The Cormack Foundation.

Out of all property developers in 2019, The Westfield Corporation Limited were runners up having donated $3.7 million. Westfield was followed by Hong Kong Kingson Investment Co. Ltd which donated the third-largest amount at $3.2 million.

Private Equity May Now Own Your Life Insurance Policy

Ownership of many life insurance policies are changing hands from the traditional insurers who once ran the industry to private equity and asset management companies.

While insurers look to offload the risks associated with policies, names like Blackstone are moving into the industry, according to a new write up by the Wall Street Journal. The shift has been caused by rates falling, which has "led traditional insurers, which invest policyholders’ premiums and the capital backing up their obligations primarily in plain-vanilla bonds, to retreat from products most hurt by low rates".

In other words, insurers are looking to get out of the policies and annuities that become a drag on profitability thanks to the Fed rigging the bond market.

Investments from the "new guard" replacing the old one can be modestly riskier than plain vanilla bonds insurers are used to, including incorporating some non-traditional investments, like ownership of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team.

More than 24 investment firms now own or control 50 U.S. life insurance companies, the WSJ noted, overseeing $600 billion in assets.

142 year old Principal Financial Group Inc. is discontinuing sales of individual life products and some annuities. Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. and Voya Financial Inc. have exited entirely insurance and annuity sales to individuals completely, the report says. MetLife has spun off its U.S. retail operations and AIG is selling a 9.9% stake in its life-insurance and retirement-services unit to Blackstone.

Out are the names like Prudential; in are the names like Apollo and KKR.

James Belardi, chairman and chief executive of Athene Holding, an insurer Apollo helped launch in 2009, told the WSJ: “The restructuring in the insurance industry isn’t showing any sign of slowing down.”

State insurance departments, meanwhile, are tasked with trying to figure out which buyers are too inexperienced to run insurance companies through difficult times. All of these regulators use a “risk-based capital” system to try and parse out whether or not insurers have adequate capital to be in business, the report says.
