Small plane crashes on landing in Fort Lauderdale

 

FORT LAUDERDALE — A small plane arriving in Fort Lauderdale from the Bahamas skidded off a runway Sunday, according to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue.

 

Few details were immediately available, but a fire department spokesman said none of the five people on board were injured.

 

The nose gear of the twin-engine Piper PA31 collapsed shortly after the plane landed around 3:20 p.m. at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

 

The FAA, along with the National Transportation Security Board will conduct more in-depth investigations into the cause of the crash.

 

Flight records show the plane left Marsh Harbor Airport in the Bahamas less than an hour earlier and flew to Fort Lauderdale on a route the plane takes often, according to flight tracking service FlightAware.
