Pleading for mercy from the court is not the same as making a Plea deal with the prosecution. The prosecution before the trial says "look here Me. criminal, if you don't give us the info you want we'll charge you with 50 counts. But if you give us the info abd plead guilty we'll charge you with only two and you'll be out of jail in no time "

The prosecution is not going to allow you to make a deal if you make them go through the work of convicting you. For one, once convicted the judge is the one who you are dealing with and a judge doesn't investigate crimes so the judge has no use for your information. Secondly, after losing a case you can't be like, "ok, since shit didn't go my way, I'll help now." It's too late buddy. You had your chance, you rolled the dice and you lost. It doesn't mean it's impassible, but it defeats the purpose as the prosecution is no longer in charge of your fate.
