On October 16, Lucano’s house arrest was revoked and he was banished from the town where he grew up and served as mayor. This form of banishment — divieto di dimora — is normally reserved for mafia bosses.

Domenico Lucano, the mayor of Riace in southern Italy, a village of 1,800 people, made a name for himself by welcoming 450 migrants. Lucano, a communist sympathizer according to Le Monde, has been arrested for facilitating illegal immigration and organizing fake marriages so migrants can get residence papers.
