ANONS, PLEASE ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS

I was hacked years ago, lost all my files due to not paying hackers to fix the issue.

Also, when I downloaded new IOS on my old iphone only because I had an app that "required it," I lost functionality of compass and battery not lasting as long.

I make a point of not downloading new software (Adobe, etc.) but right now my Firefox is asking me to update "Your Firefox is critically out of date. An update is required to stay secure."

Should I update or will I be getting malware and other B.S.?

I back up every day. I have 2 sources of backup. Didn't want to use the 3rd in case the two get comped. I'll check into Linux - thanks for the great information. Does that mean I buy a computer with Linux installed??
