It is truer to say that an atomic bomb which involves splitting an atom rapidly does not exist.
A nuclear bomb or 'dirty bomb' almost certainly does exist. A high explosive core surrounded by finely milled plutonium (nano particles) would produce a mushroom cloud and scatter radioactive particles in such a way as to be indistinguishable from an atom bomb.
